She's alive again! That hand plane has sat on the shelf in my shop ever since I got it without ever being used. I'm glad to see you breathing life back into it and putting it to some use. Have fun, Davis!
Your videos are always so addicting to watch, 22 minutes later and I'm still watching. Great input about used vs new tool value, I have to say I agree with all of you about springing for a new tool and not worrying so much about cost.
Good suggestions on buying used and the rational for it or against it. I am not an owner of a woodworking business yet, just a hobbiest a this point. You covered purchasing tools on another video and I would add buy the one you want to own for a long time the first time. I purchased a "toy" for my first table saw, sold it at a yard sale bought a better toy, sold that on Craigslist then bought a real table saw used on Craigslist. At the end of the day considering the purchase price of all 3 saws and the money I got back on the 2 sales, I effectively spent about $1k on my current tablesaw. Had I been patient and not made poor purchases my current saw would have only cost $500 not $1000. I would like to have spent that other $500 on other tools etc. I have also purchased a used 3HP dust collector that I'mm very happy I got USED. A dust collector is not that sexy or fun but necessary, it was great to get it half off new. Good luck with the business and channel keep up the good content.
I'm going to have to be more careful about what I send to you guys! "Don't worry about editing, we will clean it up." Yeah, and save all the uncomfortableness for the blooper reel!
Ok so I’ve just paused the video at around 5 minutes to type this without missing anything. I just wanted to say that restoring hand planes is EPIC dude. I’m proud of you for having a go at it. If you ever need to do some heavy rust removal, google ‘electrolysis rust removal’. Done right, it’s fantastic. Quick, clean and easy. I just got a notification that you’d added me as a friend over on Makers Playground so if you ever have any questions about using electrolysis for rust removal, feel free to shoot me a message over there and I’ll give you some pointers. Cheers mate! Keep up the awesome work! Now I’ll go back to watching your video 😆👍🏻 Edit: I meant to mention, I love the look of this Sargent 711. I have a Sargent 722 (22 inch jointing plane), the body is in very good condition but I need to find a replacement iron, chip breaker and blade cap, which will cost me about $200AU to get sent over here from America. Ouch 🤕 Cheers again 😎
Thank you for the tips! Geez that's expensive for just a few old parts... I guess these things really are rare. Haha thanks for finding us! Can't wait to see how the Playground evolves.
Ah, that’s Australian dollars lol. About $45US for the iron from memory plus shipping, into Australian dollars, it adds up quickly. I have the utmost of faith in Izzy and his development partners. I do have a couple of suggestions for the playground but I believe it will do very well. Keep up the good work here guys, I’ve been a subscriber since you stated taking off, about 400-700 subscribers I think from memory. I’m looking forward to hearing how the big move goes! 😄
Careful restoring old planes, they can become addictive. You start out getting 2 or 3 that you can really use then the next thing you know you've got 40+ hanging on the wall. 😉
You should really add upgrades to your dust collector. Wynne filter, supper dust deputy, directly connect the blower to the d.d. and directly connect to filter. You will be amazed at how much better it is.
If you really wanna learn more about hand planes and hand tools join the unplugges woodworks page on facebook and also the hand plane building and restoration page. Everyone there is very generous and willing to help. I have a full-time custom furniture business as well and really enjoy using my hand tools and that's where I learned what I did tons and tons of information really think you should look into it

Thanks, Drew! It was so much fun to restore and make this video - thanks for everything 😊
Thanks for the shoutout! Good to hear other perspectives on buying new or used tools.
I love Drew Fisher's channel. He's king of the dad joke. He's very entertaining and his projects are always creative. One of my favorites.
You have gold hands👍. Good job.
Now plane have again live.
Хорошая работа, интересно смотреть, инструмент вновь обрёл вторую жизнь, и будет работать.

Well thank you! We appreciate you!!
Loved that you kept the planer looking vintage. Great job!
Thanks, mom! 😁😁😁

Hahaha Aww I'm sorry. We thought it was great stuff! We can take it down if you really want. We thought it was fun.
Jennie and Davis naw you’re good. But you better have your guard up from now on. 😁
I loved them, Mark!
Was honestly my favorite part of the video... I think all Maker video's need to end with Mark "sending it over to " ... Great Stuff!!!
How do you dial in a lateral adjustment on that plane

I think it was James Wright of Wood by Wright that mentioned filtering for "granddad" on craigslist in a video about where to find used hand tools
Yessss... The collective power of the internet is amazing
I remember the video, it was Rex Krueger.

LITERALLY did a spit take when Drew said he got it from ... Another great video!! Miss all you guys!!
Thanks, man! Haha yeah I'm glad Drew came up with that idea - he's pretty great. Miss you, too
Big fan of the channel. Love bucees. What part of the south are y’all moving to?
Wow!!! this thing must have been 6 mo. to a years salary!!!
Without watching the video it is because they dont make things like they did 90 years ago. Now i will watch the video
The audience wants to see more of Bruce (the dog)
Noted 😉 thank you for the valuable feedback
Be careful. Hand planes can be an addiction. Once you see what you can do with one you'll want others!!!
There's a 711, and the 721C means corrugated..... the grooves on the sole.
