Didn't know much about planes. It taught me a lot. Got me thinking my dad had a old one when I was a kid. Have to find it and try cleaning it up. Thanks
Thanks Glen! I think cleaning up Dad's old plane would be a great project! Check out the link in the description to the Stanley instruction sheets - they helped me out a lot!
I have a Sargent 714 and Sargent made pretty high quality tools. Mine was found at a flea market in Giddings Texas. It was so rusty I could not read the brand name. I paid $10.00 and restored it to like new condition. Use it all the time. Saw a 714 on eBay that sold for close to $300.
Being retired I miss the opportunity to "bring things home from work"😁. Great restoration, just enough to turn a pigs ear into a potential silk purse but leaving enough to do for the buyer to get their teeth into. Recent trips to the car boot sales have been thin pickings so I had better start restoring what is in the garage.
Thanks Tony! I was telling the shop manager about how I make my own Dremel discs out of Scotch-Brite and he gave me a 30 foot roll of some maroon stuff that was bought by accident!
Great video. A lovely plane that’s looked even better after it’s cleanup. I thought the history part about Sargent was brilliant, I really enjoyed that. I also enjoyed the way you tidied up from previous videos and let us know what you have found our since making them.
Nice! Restoring a plane is truly a labour of love, I got hammered in my comments by plane "purists" even though I thought it turned out great!!! Yours is awesome and if anyone doesn't like it tell them tough luck 😊😎😎
I've recently bought a craftsman plane that I want to restore. It looks extremily similar to yours. Yours seems longer tough. I think both Stanley and Sargent made planes for Craftsman. Your video was very helpfull! Thanks!
Great work on that Beautiful old plane!! Hope you get some big bucks :]....one of these days I'll have to step my game up and do a referb on a Plane. Thumbs Up!!
Thanks Frank! A lot of collectors want the vintage tools to look old and used. We joke around about "patina" but I usually have more success at auction if I leave some of that stuff on the tool!
I got talking to the shop manager about the scotch-brite and how I make my own little discs for the dremel and he went over to a closet and gave me a 30 foot roll of "clean & finish" (maroon color) that someone bought by accident!

Great stuff! How cool is it that Screwdriver is not continuous! Wow! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks ScoutCrafter! I guess isolating the ferrule would be good for the phone line guys!
l Have restored a number of planes and like using them. Enjoyed watching you restore this one. Thanks
Hey Tony! I'm not a plane guy - I hope I did right by this thing!
I think you did. Look up Paul Sellers plane restoration on TH-cam. Very informative.
@@tonylenge424 Paul Sellers is The Man!
Nice tear down and clean up. Beautiful restoration. Should sell.
Thanks Michael. It did!

I'd be happy if she goes for $40! LOL

Thanks Mark! The feedback I get from our little "rusty tool club" is awesome!

Thanks! Plane collectors are a serious bunch!
Nice restoration and sharp too.
Nice cleanup for a flip.
Thanks!
VBM refers to ""Very Best Made". Good Job.
Thanks!

@@357magdad Thanks! I find keeping the bottom flat the most intimidating.

Thanks D&R! I was intimidated by how complex these things are! The Stanley instruction sheets helped a lot!
That was a nice restoration. Just one question, why didn’t you bring it up to a high shine. It wouldn’t have brought as much in an auction?
Thanks Frank! A lot of collectors want the vintage tools to look old and used. We joke around about "patina" but I usually have more success at auction if I leave some of that stuff on the tool!
Good stuff, I'm not real up on my planes either.. just don't use them that often, though I have 5 or 6 different ones. Good review and history!
Thanks Todd! I use a small block plane occasionally, but this thing is outside of my skill level!
Good job 👍
Looks good 👍
Hello. please tell me what year this plane was made?
I am not sure. I do not have the plane anymore. There are some Sargent type studies online.
England o USA muy buena herramienta
Thank you!
Cool video.
Thanks WM3!
Nice video
Thanks John!
There may be the slightest possibility that, I too, might bring stuff home from work, maybe!

This is so painful to watch
Thanks for watching even though it hurt! What part didn't you like? I'm always open to suggestions about how I could improve.
