Lee Magnawel thats why i couldn't let him goo xD aaaand because of this, i cant find him guilty ! Am blinded by his useful power haha! maan i crafted so many good armours and weapons for him ! I cant let him go after all this waste ! XD
Why would anyone get rid of blackwall? he is THE best tank in the game. He becomes damn near unkillable when you craft 10% chance of casting fortress wall combined with him already having the skill. Cassandra's second best, but she's not Blackwall.....and Bull just dies all over the place LOL. I don't care what anyone says a reaver is not a tank its just a blood mage with a sword.
I don't understand all the Blackwall hate. Sure he killed a group of people, granted. But what Grey Warden hasn't? The City elf either leaves there cousin with count-evil as one option. He's trying to atone and fix his ways but at the same time buries his head in the sand. He's very introspective and you can see the guilt written all over his face. He's probably one of the most sympathetic characters in the series.
+vizzam1 "Sure he killed a group of people, granted. But what Grey Warden hasn't?" Blackwall wasn't a Gray Warden until after DAI, which is optional, just as a Gray Warden leaving their cousin to be tortured is optional. What isn't optional about Blackwall is what he did when he was a Chevalier, and how he lied to the Inquisitor. Blackwall allowed children to get murdered because he was too cowardly to tell his men that he LIED to them about why they were killing the children. They thought they were at war, but it was just for profit and according to Cole he knew that there were children but refused to speak up because he didn't want them to know that he'd betrayed them. So, he ordered his men to kill innocents because of his own greed, and then went on into hiding while the men who dared trust and obey him were rounded up and executed. Years afterwards he finally allowed himself to be held accountable for his actions but he still has the audacity to act superior to the inquisitor and other characters. He also lies to the Inquisitor about his identity when he sleeps with her, knowing full well that she might not want to sleep with someone she knows has caused the death of children and has lied to her the entire time they've been together. He's also very self-righteous, even after all the pain and death he's caused. it's understandable why some people might find him interesting, but its definitely understandable why some people would dislike him. And honestly, Blackwall doesn't get half the hate that most of the female characters get over having opinions, so I think Blackwall/Rainier could deserve a little more hate and criticism considering the pain he's caused and lives he's taken. just imo. I'm glad you could enjoy his characterization though, the more we can enjoy about a game the better, I just can't like him knowing what he's done.
Misha Z You make some very interesting and concise points, I do believe he did feel guilt about it, however lying about it to a romanced inquisitor I can see why they'd be upset. I honestly just saw little difference between him and Sten, the only difference being Sten didn't lie and you can't romance him. Female characters do get a lot of hate and that's unfair, however that doesn't justify the need for more hate in male characters, it merely needs to stop the over all hate all together. I like how in Inquisition no one is innocent though, they've all done pretty bad things. Your thoughts have provoked an interesting change of thought here. I can acknowledge and respect the hate. So thank you.
Thanks. Of course no characters deserve hate, just criticism proportional to their crimes. (I also don't like Sten to be clear, for the same reasons I dislike Blackwall.) I agree actually that every character in Inquisition has done something bad (not always on Blackwall's level though), which is actually pretty interesting to think about considering how powerful the Inquisition is. Varric is probably the only decent person, because everyone else has either killed/was willing to kill someone (often with good reasons but still, murder is murder) or owned slaves (Dorian). Welp. I love 95% of the characters and most of their reasons are better then Blackwall's but honestly this is a bunch of people with a lot of blood on their hands, no wonder the Inquisition became so messed up by the time Trespasser happens :o.
Misha Z I agree with you completely, however I will say I did like Sera more in tresspasser, before she was like a kid, but now she's so grown up, I like this new Sera and I'm hoping to see more of her. I think the whole series has been done well and to create such an amazing fandom with such intricate complexities in it...Well it just makes me happy. I enjoy conversations like these! So feel free to converse with me about Dragon age (Or Mass effect.) At any time! :D
I agree with you. Him and Vivienne were my regular party members and at first I was pissed at Vivienne for being a bitch to him. After the big reveal, I greatly approved what she had said to him in their banters. The two of them are still unlikable though, but their abilities proved to be invaluable.
I always laugh when people say 'he murdered those kids he should totally die' yet the same people would likely be fine if say you had a war table mission where you had to deal with a loyalist to someone like Gaspard in the same way (what if they had kids with them too?). Or are totally okay with one of the actual war table missions where you can kill a bard for spreading lies, or ruin the reputation of nobles and chantry sisters who don't agree with you. I get that people don't like it but it feels like a double standard when people spout this sort of thing.
JRTomlinAuthor oh no, that really wasn't what I was trying to say, that's a bit of a no brainer really even if he wasn't directly involved. The guys a reformed dirt bag (hence why he can be a bit of hypocrite at times) but in the grand scheme of what is trying to be done we get asked as inquisitor to do terrible things (killing the bard or cutting out the tongue - just for stupid protest song?) Okay I get that we're being asked to do things as there is a 'bigger picture' but some of the war table missions feel just as gut wrenching and go unrecognized as pretty questionable at best - hence my analogy of a theoretical war table mission. Whilst ruining your reputation is obviously not as serious as murder, in a place where titles and influence matter it can ruin the lives of the whole noble family (not just the errant noble) these are technically guilt by association. Think of what happened to Josephine's family and how its incredibly important for her to see her family's fortune and influence restored.
Bugsie C I’m fine with none of those things and he SHOULD die for killing children. I don’t give a fuck if he’s sorry or trying to atone those kids will never get to see the light of day again because of him and you trying to bullshit your way out of recognizing that is concerning
Bull and blackwall put together with the right equipment are an unstoppable force and they can deal a lot of damage.reason why I always have blackwall and bull with me when I'm exploring a new area on the map,the rest of the companions are just my clean up crew😁
Blackwall's story line was the most breaking, imo. He is the most complex character, although not the most sympathetic, compared to the others. I forced him to stay, cause i was afraid he would leave otherwise (best tank there is!) :o
Omar Escalante Nah, solas is the most complex character. Black Wall caught me completely off gaurd. I took him everywhere. I thought he was just some really noble warden and amazing tank, but then this shit happens. *sigh* It's always gotta be something.
Most of figures in Dragon Age or any story with a dark past behind like Anders, Solas or even Loghain if you looked them enough you can understand their reasons even if you can't agree with them, but Blackwall take you out of that confort zone, like Cullen says he was a true bad person, he taken advantage or people who trust him to his own gain and them escaped like a coward, then you see the guy looking for really atonement choosing the Warden life that put his life inbthe frontline for the sake of others.......it's really along with Solas the most complex character in the game
I was honestly hoping for a "do the joining now" option, but seeing as how I left Stroud back in the fade (poetic justice, dude was itching for a sword to fall on after the whole warden debacle) obviously there'd be no high-ranking wardens left to do it. I can't kill him because this dude's tanked more killing hits to the face for me than anyone else... so I decided I'll make him join after the inquisition. Still, it'd have been cool to see him drink the blood now and maybe give his life to kill the archdemon later or something, I dunno
Whoami691 Maybe, maybe not, as King of Ferelden he really wasn't a warden anymore, also he was only there to give the wardens chant, he even said in Origins he has no idea how the concoction is made. THOF/the Warden Commander on the other hand would know as he/she had to use the joining and bring n new recruits. Stroud as well, as well as no doubt other senior wardens (Stroud and whatshername couldn't be the only two senior ones at or around adamant)
I was slightly annoyed that I avoided taking him on some missions, since I was worried they would try to use him being a Grey Warden against him. Although I think the mind control stuff was for mages only. Not sure.
Hold on, if he's pardoned and atones, does he stay with you? I always thought that meant that he left forever. I always forced him to stay with the inquisition as conscription because I was afraid he'd leave me.
ReinaDCD If you 'send him to the Wardens after Corypheus is dead', would that mean he'll be unusable for DLC content and the like? Feels like the best option otherwise, but I'd still rather him not disappear before I finish all the side stuff.
MaloneyDesign I have no idea. If he survives the Joining (which I think he will) and if there's a DLC involving Grey Wardens, I'm sure that we'll bump into him.
The Nameless One and Blackwall have much in common. Not all but enough for me think of the One when i saw this scene. REGRET, ATONEMENT and FAITH in himself
I kinda missed the option of killing him myself. Not that I don't understand that he is in constant torture by himself for what he has done, but this was kinda missing.
I think that would have been a very good option to have. Too bad you can't have him killed. Some people do feel strongly about the fact that he murdered the whole family... including the kids.
To me that is not the problem. He is blaming himself for years now and will go on doping so. To kill him would actually be kind of a nice move. But it would be interesting to see a FemInq who romanced him killing him personally.
ReinaDCD He didn't murder them - he told his men to kill everyone in the carriage, and they were too gung-ho to think of double-checking once they saw kids there. I mean yeah, they're soldiers and all, but how hard would it be to spot a kid, grab it and say "hey man, did you mean these too? Because I am totally uncomfortable with this." Is it really that hard for seasoned soldiers to restrain an 8-year-old or whatever?
PsyrenXY Ah, technically, he didn't murder them with his own hands. But, the blood is still on his hands as he gave the order to kill the whole family including the poor children. That was really, really terrible. The children were innocent of any crime.
It’s stupid to hate Blackwall just for this. Like we’re gonna forget that Ser Alrik had purposely made some female mages tranquil just so he could rape them?
So does blackwall leave after you beat corypheus? I chose to give him the wardens and I'm not sure if that means he will be unavailable after the main story is over. I've already played through the game once so I know one or Twp characters can become unavailable after the story depending on your decisions. Blackwall is my main tank this time and it'd be a shame if he just up and vanished.
I chose atonement. But only because he had all my good tanking armor. You got lucky this time Blackwell.
***** The betrayal really hurt man.
ah the voice of pragmatism.
That reminds me, I'm still sour over Solas leaving with my tier 4 armour
Lmao that’s what I’m thinking of. My armor and weapons
blackwall aint going nowhere i've slayed two dragons with him in my party.
Lee Magnawel i've slayed all of dragon with him he is usefull enough
if you become a tank champion you don't need him
Lee Magnawel thats why i couldn't let him goo xD aaaand because of this, i cant find him guilty ! Am blinded by his useful power haha! maan i crafted so many good armours and weapons for him ! I cant let him go after all this waste ! XD
Viviene, herald knight enchanted, plus upgrades horn-of-valor = dead dragon in five minutes
@@tg_516 always good to have another 2h champion with u cause they do good damage, with 2h they are as good as any 2h warrior
Interesting how your decision also affects Sera's approval. I love their friendship so much.
Ikr, Bull just dies like crazy for me too! Or, maybe it's just me being a noob. :| Sword and Shield warriors are the tank Gods of the game!
Cass has crazy buffs for the party and is unkillable anyway. Champion spec is overkill for tanking. Or rather underkill... you get what I mean.
Ranziel1 Yeah, I love Cass (both as a person and a tank)!
ReinaDCD I actually run him as a two hander tank. He doesn't get a shield and is still downright amazing.
Nytwolfie Ah, I see. Which skill trees did you learn?
I don't understand all the Blackwall hate. Sure he killed a group of people, granted. But what Grey Warden hasn't? The City elf either leaves there cousin with count-evil as one option. blackwall aka ron swanson the laugh the unbeatableness and his nobility he so epic words must be made up to describe him
Bull and blackwall put together with the right equipment are an unstoppable force and they can deal a lot of damage.reason why I always have blackwall and bull with me when I'm exploring a new area on the map,the rest of the companions are just my clean up crew😁
Idk if it's just me or not but at 0:11 notice how the guards didn't really shove Blackwall like they do other prisoners.
Blackwall's story line was the most breaking, imo. He is the most complex character, although not the most sympathetic, compared to the others. I forced him to stay, cause i was afraid he would leave otherwise (best tank there is!) :o

first i wondered why the fuck didn't he get triggered by the calling now i know
I really wish my male inquisitor could have romanced him - he's so interesting >.
Gayyyyy

Yeah, I think it'd have been cool to watch his Joining. Maybe it could been overseen by a Senior Warden like Stroud or Bethany/Carver.
ReinaDCD Beth/Carver would not have been senior wardens yet, they'd be only a rank above recruit there were already plenty of those already.
Shadow Dimitriaski Alistair (assuming you didn;t kill him) might be a good bet. He knows what is involved.
Whoami691 Maybe, maybe not, as King of Ferelden he really wasn't a warden anymore, also he was only there to give the wardens chant, he even said in Origins he has no idea how the concoction is made. Stroud as well, as well as no doubt other senior wardens (Stroud and whatshername couldn't be the only two senior ones at or around adamant)
The Bread Boy To be fair all grey wardens besides Blackwall (ahem) and THE Warden are just sniffing around looking for a sword to fall on.
I was slightly annoyed that I avoided taking him on some missions, since I was worried they would try to use him being a Grey Warden against him. Although I think the mind control stuff was for mages only. Not sure.
Well, Blackwall isn’t really a proper grey warden. That’s how he can’t hear the “calling” that other wardens do.
i will never give up on him 😂 So diff compared to the other characters.
Hold on, if he's pardoned and atones, does he stay with you? I always thought that meant that he left forever. I always forced him to stay with the inquisition as conscription because I was afraid he'd leave me.
in the vid: 1:40 : "If my future is mine, then I pledge it to the Inquisition. My sword is yours."
He stays.
Everyone hates Blackwall but they think Cole is a cute sweetheart. They both are. And they're both child murderers.
Cole was like a newborn child, he knew nothing about humans, Blackwall was an adult...
Figured he'd be shipped off if you chose Wardens, I think I'll do that next time rather than freedom
He'll become a real Grey Warden, but I'm not sure if he'll survive the Joining or not. I guess he will though.
ReinaDCD If you 'send him to the Wardens after Corypheus is dead', would that mean he'll be unusable for DLC content and the like? Feels like the best option otherwise, but I'd still rather him not disappear before I finish all the side stuff.
MaloneyDesign Still around for me post-game but if he leaves....no fucks given
MaloneyDesign I have no idea. If he survives the Joining (which I think he will) and if there's a DLC involving Grey Wardens, I'm sure that we'll bump into him.
ReinaDCD so what options lets us keep him as a companion for the whole game plz tell me he is my favorite and im judging him right now!??
The Nameless One and Blackwall have much in common. Not all but enough
for me think of the One when i saw this scene. REGRET, ATONEMENT and
FAITH in himself
Whatt bruh you must have been high when you commented this lmao
REINER! YARUNDANA? IMA? KOKO DE?!?!
Sorry wrong universe

MakaraTube Great idea! That'd be very tragic and heartbreaking to watch.
ReinaDCD He didn't murder them - he told his men to kill everyone in the carriage, and they were too gung-ho to think of double-checking once they saw kids there. I'm a mage trying to do a ruthless or evil playthrough
I legit don’t think I can be evil. I care way too much about the characters.
What's the end result if you choose to give him to the wardens, does he die from the ritual or live on and which did you end up going with?
He lives. I kept him as a companion in the end.
anyone know how I can sentence Blackwell??
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Revelations
does the last option lead into anything?
It’s stupid to hate Blackwall just for this. Like we’re gonna forget that Ser Alrik had purposely made some female mages tranquil just so he could rape them?
I love him
YOUR LIFE IS MINE NOW MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
+Alessandra Holander Yash >;D id be like THOM MASSAGE MY FEET MUAHAHAHA and don't you dare forget my toes
i kept him but I feel bad for doing it as he didn't want that
Well, I felt that putting him into my service again is a way for him to make up for his mistakes. :)
So does blackwall leave after you beat corypheus? I chose to give him the wardens and I'm not sure if that means he will be unavailable after the main story is over.

shoulda left his ass :)
Really like the idea of making him do the joining.... but only if it kills him. =P
Jail him?
ReinaDCD
no... just left him in the prision.
Principe Negrô Ahh
i left him in prison
david blackwell Ouch
CSS freelance I should have done that. it’s what he deserves
What the hell is wrong with her eyebrows? Every time she talks the outside of them wiggle inwards.
😐 I romanced him before I knew he was a murderous liar.
