Solas described templar abilities as “reinforcing reality”. Templar abilities come from lyrium, which is the blood of the titans, to which cole says “they sang thought into being, working their memories into valleys of the world”. Therefore, I believe there’s a sense of duality here: spirits shape the fade using their thoughts, while titans shape the world and impose the laws of reality that prevent magic from raising the dead, or teleporting, both of which could be possible if one were in the fade because reality does not function in the fade for whatever reason, possibly the veil, which separates the fade from thedas as a whole and thus keeps the realms of reality and imagination divided.
If blue lyrium is the blood of the Titans, what is red lyrium? The blood of a second type of Titan or the blood of something else? Solas and the elves did not create reality they are creations themselves. They were never Gods. Who then were the Titans? The Forgotten Ones? The Old Gods? Who created the Elves? The Chantry terms the creator as the Maker. The Elves did not create humans. The Maker of the Golden City is the Maker of humans. Are the humans of the Tevinter Imperium the same as other humans? How did the Magisters learn "blood magic"? Did Solas teach them in order to free them from bondage to the elves? Is that why he says he created the Fade? Because he gave the Magisters the power to invade the Golden City, thus "creating" the Black City and the Veil? What is red lyrium?
@@kallianpublico7517 Red lyrium is lyrium that has been infected by the blight, and if titans are the source of all lyrium, then it’s entirely possible that there is a blighted titan. @@P9u9r6p2l4e A blighted Titan? I dont know. The blight is a human thing, involving the history of dwarves and men. The elves of Arlathan don't mention the blight, I don't think. So it came after the fall of Arlathan, supposedly after the Magisters (who were elven slaves?) entered the Golden City. Did the Magisters cause the fall of Arlathan by doing this, or was the fall before? It's confusing. Since we know nothing of the Titans, I mean did the Magisters have knowledge of them, then I'm reticent to say they can be affected by the blight. Their blood, lyrium, can be affected. But why would something having to do with the Golden City affect them? Unless they came from the Golden City. But then why wouldn't it affect ALL lyrium? Who are the darkspawn, why would they ONLY appear after the actions of the magisters. Were they created out of thin air, or were they once dwarves or some other race? Some Dwarven people created the red lyrium idol, it was found in a Thaig. Or did they find it? If they created it then they did so after the Blight appeared. Only those like Sandahl can work it though..
I still think when Arlathan fell, it hit with the force of a low meteor, and created that northern sea next to the forest; it has ALWAYS looked like an impact crater to me.
It would tie perfectly with the final battle in DA:I when Corypheus uses the power of the Orb (presumably enhanced by the vicinity of the Breach) to literally rip off part of the earth to carry it high above into the clouds. I could totally see Arlathan as a floating city and it makes even more sense when you look at the floating buildings in Tevinter City in the teaser, I think it's very likely that the magisters got the idea from the elves.
@@egg_lover7725 I think it was along the lines of, most think of buildings in the trees but instead imagine floating/flying(?) towers or spires of crystal? I may be wrong (haven't played in quite a while) Pulled this from somewhere. Solas described it as - “palaces floating among the clouds” (dont think this is the exact dialog and description but its the closest I can find) So it would support the theory of an impact creator since it seems it literally fell and not in the Rome sense. More like a hight sense. So yeh cities in the clouds like you said is pretty accurate. I can't find the early conversation between elfy inquisitor and solas where he describes elven cities.
I think this is probably the most likely thing. The cities are described as floating or in the clouds. So it is possible that it literally fell from the sky.
With the qunari/elf connection, it’s probably worth mentioning that Kieran would tell a qunari inquisitor that “your blood does not belong to your people” so that could be more evidence towards the elven experiment theory
All of the Sentinals, Solas, and even just decorations are HEAVILY plated in gold. I'm assuming the green color scheme is mainly from the Dalish, while the Ancient Elvhen mainly use the color gold and gold plating for their clothes and decorations. Also a neat nod to Dragon Age 4 since it's unofficial official color appears to be gold.
So the Veil going up wasn't just traumatic, it was functionally a Fall of the Garden of Eden. The elves went from almost a literal Heaven to a grim reality. Interesting thematic comparisons with Solas slotting into the Morningstar.
I always found it interesting that Mythal when talking to Lavellan says that the inquisitor does THE people proud. Which means in Mythal's eyes she does not view city or dalish as lesser elves, however Solas and Abelas both scald the inquisitor for even using "our" people or even thinking of city or dalish as the same race basically. Also both Mythal and Cole call the Inquisitor bright! When the inquisitor ask about what Cole sees in them, "bright almost too bright" and when asking about Solas, Cole describes him as bright and sad! Which could be an illusion to Solas Archor or a clever way for the writers to say that Inquisitor and Solas are on equal footing so to speak.
Mythal's different perspective could be that she's been in the world longer and has interacted with the modern day elves of every flavor and the different races, whereas Solas and Abelas have been kept apart and so do not have any perspective on modern elves to make the judgment call.
Theory: Elgar'nan's temple region is the pyramids mentioned on Par Vollen. There are pyramid structures there dedicated to keeping care of bodies, but not dead ones, so likely those of Dreamers. And there are sun motifs mentioned that are speculated to tie to Elgar'nan
Second theory; original valaslin, made using lyrium, was meant to tie the slaves to the master directly in a magical way. Falon'din wanted to have more slaves and was willing to steal those of others, probably to use as fuel for his rituals. If the elven slaves pulled raw magic out of the air, then they were in a sense foci for the magic to be pulled through. So number of slaves equals level of power available. Slaves were not just people they you ruled over, but actually determined who was more powerful. So Mythal suggesting Falon'din and Elgar'nan fighting through a champion probably was meant to prevent a massacre due to slave draining.
Also, isn't there a codex entry or piece of dialogue about mythal and making bodies of the earth. That sounds like making bodies out of lyrium or something and binding spirits to them. Solas also mentioned being lured into a body by Mythal, but later he burns her vallaslin off of his face. And those in Uthenara and no longer needing sustenance sounds like those who left their bodies, becoming spirits again.
I always believed the elvhenan were just spirit with a physical form. Even more so when Cole mentionned elves have blood that isn't exactly blood, also because elves cannot pass down their genes if they have babies with other races, but most of all- Because in the Vir Dirthara a codex mentions : "Those who never manifested outside the Fade will find it easier to find its stillest roots, but it is rare the compulsion overtakes our brethren of the air." Not only that but in the trespasser DLC Cole mentions that if the Veil is fake, that means he's not an error, and that he belongs there as Cole "The Veil isn’t real. It’s false, fake, fabricated to forbid. Isn’t it wonderful? It means I belong here! Helping, healing the hurt! I’m not a wrong thing, a wreck, a ruin. I’m what I should be!" He's very happy about it but quickly gives up trying to explain (at least with Sera) saying "Solas understand." And of course let's not forget Creepy Kieran with Urthemiel riding along that boy's body who says to Inquisitor Lavellan "No, I just don't understand why your people would want to look like that." Which could make reference to the Vallaslin but I'm not sure about it, I think it's more about the fact that if elves are indeed spirits- 'They can look like anything they want, why would they settle for this ?' Is probably what Kieran meant And if he's a normal boy I think he says he just find elves pretty.
In the WoT vol. 2 (p. 231, bottom right) it even says that the Skyhold kitchen staff notice that Solas eats very little and has very special preferences for his tea! I wonder if he even needs to eat at all or if he just does so to pretend to be normal
Hey! I love your videos, they are always so interesting :) at 9:26 you talk about not being sure if elven nobles were really a thing as we don’t have much evidence for it but I just wanted to point out that when Solas tells a romanced Lavellan about the vallaslin being slave markings, if she questions him he says “ a Noble would mark his slaves to honor the god he worshiped” so I take that to pretty much confirm that nobility as a social class existed among the elves.
Coming back to this video after playing Dragon Age Veilguard has been really interesting seeing how close some of the theories or how they nailed the future plot right on
The Avvar must have interacted with elves in a friendly manner, considering they based their belief system on elven concepts or at least what elves remembered of it after the Veil. Also a lot of ancient elven ruins show signs of human inhabitants, and vice versa human architecture has taken over elements of the elves. So there must have been some humans and elves that did not fight and instead traded knowdledge or even cohabitet. Not all elves would have fallen to the Imperium way up north, while there were also elves in Ferelden and other present day regions that the vints had not occupied at the time.
personally I like to imagine that Solas’s stupid weird mullet haircut in the original art for inquisition was actually a normal elvhenan haircut, that all of these powerful beings had really dumb hair always
Thank you for going over all of this. One thing I can't help thinking is that the shorter lives of Elves happened after the creation of the veil (Veal, peas, and bacon, and shields). I wonder what effect the creation of the veil had on the psyche of those elves afterwards. Wouldn't they almost feel like they were tranquil? That would certainly make them easy for humans to conquer them. With access to the fade cut off, they would require all things material like food, shelter, sleep, and the like whereas before none of that would really be needed. With material needs, wear and tear on mortal forms would take place. Could it be that Thedas just didn't exist fully in the mortal plane until the creation of the veil and once it did, it made it accessible to humans to colonize? With the veil cutting off the living fade from the elves it would roughly throw their civilization into chaos... Like us to suddenly have no electricity, transportation, or means of communication, on top of having no way of truly conveying concepts beyond the most rudimentary simple terms. I apologize if I'm rambling and not making sense.
For the first part of your comment I might have something. One of the spirit of wisdom in the Vir Dirthana says : "If we get out of here, I will end Fen'Harel. After he held back the sky to imprison the Gods, the dread wolf disappeard. Lies. We must tear down the veil. The cities, the pathways, without magic they're crumbelling. You're wasting your time, Fen'Harel's veil has turned our empire to ruins." There's other records of those elves with other spirits of Wisdom but basically all relay the same feeling : utter, deep confusion over what's happening and where to go from now. The elves that were on Fen'Harel's side thinks Solas had tricked them, when in reality the power needed to cast the veil made him fall in Urtherena until now. As time passed the legends of elves paints him as a trickster, someone not to be trusted, because of this event. The other elves who seems to speak badly of Fen'Harel also are confused, trying to reach for the Evanuris but realize that since the Veil exist they have gone silent. But both sides agrees on the fact that they want to bring down the Veil, as it is now we know they didn't suceed since it's still there. It's not explained how elves felt as the Veil was cast down, probably too busy trying to undrrstand why their cities were crumbling under their feet, but I can maybe theorize something. I believe it's not dissimilar to what Solas explains the Fade feels like, he navigate the Fade in his dreams and he explains to the Inquisitor that "Things in the Fade are easier for him" the real world is slow, unmoving, heavy in his eyes. If I had to describe it as a IRL feeling it would probably be similar to when you spend so much time on a trampoline that when you come down you feel like you are stuck to the ground, that even your biggest jumps won't lift you up enough. Declaw a cat, throw it in the wild and see how it fends for itself, it won't be pretty. That's probably what happened to the elves, they had to relearn everything and right in this moment humans marched down on them, taking advantage on their weakened state to conquer. If elvhen architectures relied heavily on magic to function, it's totally possible that humans couldn't even interact with elves or their creations. We know very little of what the word before the Veil looked like and what it means to have the Fade at your fingertips. Thedas as the land probably evolved to the lack of the Fade too, just as the elves, dwarves and maybe humans did too. Just by comparing the Sentinels and modern elves there's physical differences. Most obvious is the complete lack of hair of Sentinels. It is mentionned that modern elves can't grow beards, but they grow hair maybe it wasn't always the case ? After all the elvhen murals portray them bald. Another thing that is quite noticable, especially with Solas who doesn't wear an armor is the difference in body shape. Solas has an average body size. Now compare to Lavellan, a male Inquisitor is roughly the same size as him but considerably thinner and more X shaped. Now this could be easily explained by the fact that for a long time modern elves were enslaved and the body keep score. If you don't have stable source of food the generations following will be smaller and smaller. That's what happened IRL when Humans started agriculture, there was a sudden drop in size because the first generations had it very rough. Elves definitely changed from that time, which means the world probably did with them and we have no way to compare how much they changed compared to elves. EDIT : There's actually one mural where elves have hair. It's the mural of Fen'Harel taking off the Vallaslin, but only the elves without marking have hair on this.
So Solas creating the Veil didn't only separate the Fade from the world, it separated the Elves from their...source of power. Making them vulnerable to the humans. Then what was all the talk about the "Quickening"? The more the elves mingled with humans the more they lost their "immortality": their power. Why? And why didn't it affect Solas and Mythal..as much?
@@kallianpublico7517 - Solas and Mythal were very ancient and very experienced mages so they always had an ease of use utilizing magic even after the veil was created. They were still affected but not as much as the rest of the race of Elves. This is why it took Solas so long to recover his powers and Mythal could not do more than being carried by someone. As for the Quickening, without the constant connection to the fade, they could no longer regenerate. Since humans appeared as the Elves started dying, they made a good scapegoat. It's always easier to blame someone/something else than blame yourself and that's just what the Elves did.
@@kallianpublico7517 The whole deal about quickening is just real reasons been lost in translation. Or misunderstood. We're unsure if all the elves were aware their connections to the Fade was responsible for their immortality. And even if they knew, memory isn't reliable. This stuff happened over like ages ago the truth got distorted. Mythal was dead when it happened and she had to find a host to go through the Veil as for Solas it's unclear why he wasn't affected, maybe because it was his spell and his orb who knows ?
I maintain my theory that the Old Gods were the ones the elves fought against in the war Solas mentions. Yavana talks about "a time before the Veil, when dragons ruled the skies". And as we all know, "sky" is a common synonym for the Fade before the Veil.
Yes, and the fact that Flemeth can turn into a dragon, I wouldn't be surprise if the old god was also an elf. It means the archdemons sinse Dumat - Urthemiel was supposed to be an elf in a form of corrupted dragon
Could the 'Scaled Ones' be the Kossith maybe? The Qunari do have some theories that they came from Dragons, and the creatures that might be the "Scaled Ones" look really Dragon-y. Iron Bull also says: "The people we came from? They're called the Kossith, but we don't use that name for the race. We came south to Thedas because the Kossith were...*sigh* I don't know. We had to leave. The stories weren't clear. But I don't expect they looked much like us, whatever they are." That all, tied with how Kieran says he feels bad for what happened to the Qunari Inquisitor's people, and that their blood does not belong to them, and what Corypheus said about the Qunari Inquisitor, really makes me think they're part-dragon and possibly the Scaled ones that the Evanuris fought. Also, Kieran says something that also supports that the Ancient Elves were Spirits. He says to an elven Inquisitor, "I just don't know why your people want to look like that." The way he phrases it implies that Elves -chose- their appearance. Which honestly makes the insult of "knife ear" almost seem worse, because it's a chosen feature. Also, Solas mentioned that many Elves feel an immediate connection to the Elven language, and he tries this on Sera, who denies understanding what he said and gets annoyed at the implication that she should understand just based on her being an Elf.
OK so I tweeted you, but I really wanna make sure you see this, because I love your content and the podcast, so if I see at any point that you have liked a tweet or thumbs up something or acknowledge that you’ve seen it, then I promise I’m going to stop because I don’t want to get on your nerves and I’m sorry. But I am playing through Dragon Age Inquisition again and I honestly might not have been the 1st person to notice this and I doubt I’m the 1st person who’s theorized it, but I believe Dalish from Bull’s Chargers is from a clan of ancient elves, like the ones you encounter at the Well of Sorrows. Her backstory reads, “Dalish was born with magical talent. She says that her Keeper sent her away to see more of the world. However, according to the Iron Bull, she had to leave her clan because Dalish clans can't have too many mages at once. However, she insists that she is not a mage, but an archer instead, and that her staff is actually a bow, and the glowing crystals on it are an old elven trick designed for aiming. Ironically, she wears the Vallaslin of Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets.” Now alone it’s nothing, but after the concept art and release of the Dragon Age 4 Trailer, where we see someone holding what 1st appears to be a staff with a large stone, symbol, or crystal on the top, only to then pull back on a magical string and shoot an arrow. Dalish never claims to be a mage, and in fact says otherwise anytime someone says that she is. She also claims that her Keeper thought she should see the world. From what we know of the ancient elves that are alive today, they often are hidden and secluded so that would make sense that Dalish should “see the world”. (Possibly as an agent of The Dread Wolf, but that’s a whole other theory I have that’s even more iffy, but it would make sense as to why she left her clan if that’s the case though, beyond just exile.) Now with the Vallaslin of Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets, we can assume she wouldn’t just explain right then how the magic works and etc., but I do believe she’s being honest when she claims not to be a mage. I’m aware her Wiki says she’s a mage, but I’ll also point you to the Spirit Warrior subclass from Dragon Age Awakening. It reads, “Although spirit warriors employ magical abilities, they are not mages; instead, they flirt with inhabitants of the Fade who agree to augment mortal abilities in exchange for a glimpse of the physical world. Naturally, the Chantry's templars rarely acknowledge that distinction.” Now, I’ll also direct to the the Spirit Warrior subclass from Dragon Age Origins. “Among the ancient elves, there were mages who trained their magical arts to augment their martial prowess. They channeled magical power through their weapons and bodies, becoming terrors on the battlefield. Most consider these skills lost forever, but they may still linger in forgotten corners of the world. Arcane warriors may learn to use their magic score to satisfy the strength requirement to equip higher-level weapons and armor.” Whenever Dalish is called a mage, she states that’s not the case and that her bow with the crystal on top is an old Elven trick that we wouldn’t understand. Could she have been telling the truth about that and the secret she’s keeping is that she’s actually 1 of the ancient elves? I do think that Dalish could simply be lying about being a mage and it be taken at face value, but I believe that Dalish is some type of Arcane Spirit Warrior. Possibly Dalish is from a clan of ancient elves, possibly even the same clan from Tevinter as the person in the DA4 trailer. I believe Dalish is actually a kinda Arcane Spirit Warrior from a clan of ancient elves and she’s telling the truth in Dragon Age Inquisition. There’s my theory, I’m gonna share it on your other videos cause I really do want you to see it, even if it just gets thrown out there. I think it’s something after the DA4 trailer. Like I said, I love your content and I really don’t wanna annoy you but I know you might not ever see this if I don’t really put my effort into making it easy for you to see. Thanks for all of your videos and I wish nothing but blessing and prosperity onto both your family and Jordan’s from The Exalted March.
Perhaps we need to compare mass effect lore to dragon age lore. Protheans=ancient elves/evanuris, Reapers=old gods, humans/turian/krogan/salarian/Asari etc= All current races of Thedas. Darkspawn= corrupted species from reaper tech
Thank you so much for this. I never get tired of learning/lore about the elves, especially the ancient elves. There are a lot of unknowns that I wasn't aware of. Hopefully DA4 will answer some of these "lore holes" and satiate our curiosity, make the game worth the wait!
that theory on the qunari origins is definitely interesting and might explain why Iron Bull has a great big none-answer for what you'd think would be a pivotal point in their history. Perhaps the "unclear" part of the tales has to do with the Veil coming down? Only wrench in that is that isn't there something that says the qunari, save for a single colony in the ancient age(s) that was wiped out by darkspawn, came across the northern ocean in the 6th age?
I'm new to this channel but love dragon age, got back into I again because I'm going to replay them again. All the stuff you've done is really good and informative. I enjoyed the book series you covered, I got to learn more on certain. I was shocked you been covering D.A since 2018 or older from what some of the videos show. I wished I would have discovered this channel years ago. 👍🙌🏼
With the new Fenris Lyrium Ghost comics, it seems that the vallaslin were more than just markings, but seem to be bodily enchantments that could grant elves different abilities. While some vallaslin could have been used in combat, like Fenris, I wonder if the vallaslin were used as a way for the Evanuris to physically control their slaves much like Flemeth does to Morrigan or the inquisitor after drinking from the well of sorrows, and that's why Solas was so adamant in removing it from former slaves so that their old masters couldn't control them. And the lyrium sword that was used to give Fenris his lyrium vallaslin was an arcane warriors sword from Elvhenan. So most likely the ancient arcane warriors had vallaslin that had the same magical properties as Fenris' Also it means that the Dalish hella misinterpreted the vallaslin, not only were they slave markings, but could've been literal magical chains that bound the slaves. No wonder Solas wanted to remove Lavallen's lol.
Makes sense that they changed the Sentinels back to elves. They don't want to prove that theory just yet. but also Mythal would not have used twisted elves made into Qunari as she was the seemingly most compassionate of the Evanuris. So she a purist would have ensisted that her Sentinels be pure elves. It's like Elrond guarding his house with orcs just seems disrespectful to the elves twisted by evil so long ago.
In banter with Blackwall Solas says that he likes "this tiny color cupcakes" . So maybe elven not needed food but had one like one of mortality pleasures?
So does any lore pertain as to where humans actually came from? All I’ve gotten from playing the game just sums up to: “humans just arrived and were just there”. I mean, humans by themselves is already so mundane, I’m kinda hoping they have a more interesting origin than “they were just there”
In summary. They raised a city from the ground... then when the magic weakened....the city fell to the ground and we all know what happens when something is caught by the force of gravity.Hahaha
OK, random thoughts that I want to share. Are the Old Gods trapped in the belly of the Titans? Is the Titan their suit of armor? Were Dwarves created to be their expendable warriors? Maybe the Dark Spawn, too.(Brood mothers) I think that maybe Elves created expendable Humans. Of course some Elves "mixed" with the Humans and that's why some Humans have magic. Once the Veil went up the Titans couldn't move, so the Old Gods were trapped. On the surface, the playing field was leveled and the slave/warrior Humans took control. Also, isn't Solas kind of the creator, as the world we know now, without magic, was created by him when he created the Veil. Not saying he's the Maker, but why is the Maker silent. Is he in a place where he can't communicate, like wondering around Thedas in a body, like in the movie Dogma? (Sandal - I wish). Thanks for letting me vent. Probably all rubbish, but have been itching to share.
I feel like even though solas is being viewed as the villain, I feel like he's just homesick with truly good intentions and I feel like solas is going to be the good guy in the end.
I feel like there is a chance that the war the elves fought that gave rise to the evanurius was the executors. Especially since solas seems afraid of them
I think that the Evanuris lived somewhere (maybe the black city?Arlathan?) and that the land was divided into big cities ruled by kings (or rulers) who was maybe also divided again into lands ruled by nobles. all those together were united into Elvhenan the empire. so each nobles maybe had more of an allegiance towards one Evanuris and branded their slaves/people with Valasslins of them. maybe the elves came from somewhere else like humans and that's where legends of Elgar'nan comes from or they were not united and fought against each other until some groups took over the others. for magic since the fade is the relm of imagination everything you thought and felt were copied by spirits and shaped the fade part of the world and not the reality part of it.
8 thousand years? 😂 I don't know what is worst. That Lavellan is with an acent or Solas finds technically a child attractive due to world info and knowledge 😂 This was great 🙏
All the talk of Gods and everything and here's me thinking how its actually refreshing to potentially have a world where gods are actually just powerful actual real people with lots of power, as opposed to some omnipresent impossible being that transcends all logic like our own IRL absent gods. My canon Elven Inquisitor has come to realise that there are no gods and the ones who we claim to be gods, arent worth worshiping.
So, I lean towards the theory that they were spirits who took form. The issue I have is why would anyone take a physical form if they knew it meant going into slavery?
Interesting, you've probably already noticed this, but attentive listeners seems to imply there was still some sort of divide between what is real/unchanging and magical.
New to this fandom! Honest question: if the elves of Thedas are not Solas' people, who are his people? I understand why Solas is frustrated with the Dalish. I mean they don't know the truth about him and their non-gods. But that's not truly their fault right?
He considers the ancient elves, from Elvhenan, as his people. That's why he feels so much regret about what he did cause he feels that he killed his people. He sees the modern elves as little more as tranquil and doesn't associate much with modern elves, but seems to change his mind a bit by trespasser.
So I've had a loose theory bouncing around in my head and this seems like a good video to mention it: Would it be more plausible that the Old Gods were/are the Forgotten ones as opposed to the Evanuris? We know very little about the Forgotten Ones, and most of the connections between the Evanuris and The Old Gods are due to process of elimination or very minor similarities. Also, the Forgotten ones would have good reason to want the Fade breached. This got me thinking about who or what the Forgotten ones would be in this scenario and down the rabbit hole I went. Tin foil hats may be necessary for the following: We know from Solas that demons are just spirits that are twisted and removed from their purpose. Wisdom/Pride, Justice/Vengeance, etc. are examples of this. And the general consensus is that the Elves were originally spirits who gained a physical form. Could the Evanuris actually be the "demon" versions of these original spirits? As a few examples: Solas is obviously a Pride demon in this scenario, Mythal is Vengeance, Elgar'nan is Rage maybe? (I know Elgar'nan is connected to Vengeance, but I feel rage fits just as well) The Forgotten Ones could be a mirror of the Evanuris. This would still cause the issue of Solas and Mythal being the exceptions to the rule, but perhaps they were able to harness both sides of their personalities, thus there wasn't an opposite to manifest. Solas Seems to be able to control the many-eyed dread wolf/is able to become the wolf in the fade. Maybe he is personifying both Wisdom and Pride while Mythal is able to personify both Justice and Vengeance? The joining of both personifications would make one truly complete. This could be what Solas means when he Says Mythal was the "first" among them. It is also said that the Maker first created spirits. It's not out of the realm of possibility that all the personifications of spirits were created and some were at odds with others. The Evanuris and Forgotten ones could all be the original spirits created
For some reason. The Elvhenan lore is kinda similar to our Ancient Astronouts history here in real life 🤔 Like for example. Qunari was created because of an experiment gone wrong. Kinda the same as our Ancient Astronouts giants creation gone wrong, right? And that's only a single example so far 🤔
This is a big story of don't look in the mirror. Good fact checking, and there are too many missing parts. We may get more of it in Dreadwolf, but that has yet to be seen.

Love how "friendly debate" over the roof trim colour ended with someone straight up pulling out a knife
I still think when Arlathan fell, it hit with the force of a low meteor, and created that northern sea next to the forest; it has ALWAYS looked like an impact crater to me.
This is such food for thought
It would tie perfectly with the final battle in DA:I when Corypheus uses the power of the Orb (presumably enhanced by the vicinity of the Breach) to literally rip off part of the earth to carry it high above into the clouds. I could totally see Arlathan as a floating city and it makes even more sense when you look at the floating buildings in Tevinter City in the teaser, I think it's very likely that the magisters got the idea from the elves.
@@yrdens1570 I remember solas' description of Arlathan also mentions staircases up to cities in the trees/clouds unless I'm misremembering
@@egg_lover7725 I think it was along the lines of, most think of buildings in the trees but instead imagine floating/flying(?) towers or spires of crystal? I may be wrong (haven't played in quite a while)
Pulled this from somewhere.
Solas described it as -
“palaces floating among the clouds” (dont think this is the exact dialog and description but its the closest I can find)
So it would support the theory of an impact creator since it seems it literally fell and not in the Rome sense.
@@thestitchwithsami That could definitely make the case to play as an elf in DA4, hopefully this time an antivan crow elf or maybe a former slave.
It's the anchor. In JoH the Augur says something along the lines that the Inquisitor blazes and the hand burns like a watchman's bonfire.
@@LadyofCourse Dang, a former slaves sounds nice🤔🤔🤔🤔
This is honestly the best elven lore in fiction in my opinion.
Even more so when Cole mentionned elves have blood that isn't exactly blood, also because elves cannot pass down their genes if they have babies with other races, but most of all- Because in the Vir Dirthara a codex mentions :
"Those who never manifested outside the Fade will find it easier to find its stillest roots, but it is rare the compulsion overtakes our brethren of the air."
Not only that but in the trespasser DLC Cole mentions that if the Veil is fake, that means he's not an error, and that he belongs there as Cole
"The Veil isn’t real. It’s false, fake, fabricated to forbid. Isn’t it wonderful? It means I belong here! Helping, healing the hurt! I’m not a wrong thing, a wreck, a ruin. I’m what I should be!" He's very happy about it but quickly gives up trying to explain (at least with Sera) saying "Solas understand."
And of course let's not forget Creepy Kieran with Urthemiel riding along that boy's body who says to Inquisitor Lavellan "No, I just don't understand why your people would want to look like that." Which could make reference to the Vallaslin but I'm not sure about it, I think it's more about the fact that if elves are indeed spirits- 'They can look like anything they want, why would they settle for this ?' Is probably what Kieran meant
And if he's a normal boy I think he says he just find elves pretty.
Also for there to be balls to the extent of Orlais (especially since Elvenahn was bigger) I would put money on there being a Noble class
I thought all ancient elves were bald?
You're wasting your time, Fen'Harel's veil has turned our empire to ruins."
There's other records of those elves with other spirits of Wisdom but basically all relay the same feeling : utter, deep confusion over what's happening and where to go from now.
@@Deilmo_ - I like that! Thank you!
8:05-an Elven City on the Moon, sounds like the final dungeon of every JRPG.
I always thought that the way solas feels about the world without the fade as how a person in modern day thedas would feel in our world
I maintain my theory that the Old Gods were the ones the elves fought against in the war Solas mentions. Yavana talks about "a time before the Veil, when dragons ruled the skies".
And as we all know, "sky" is a common synonym for the Fade before the Veil.
Wait... i know you 😂
Yes, and the fact that Flemeth can turn into a dragon, I wouldn't be surprise if the old god was also an elf. It means the archdemons sinse Dumat - Urthemiel was supposed to be an elf in a form of corrupted dragon
Qunari are elves On super steroids (dragon blood); Until I hear different I’m sticking to that.
Could the 'Scaled Ones' be the Kossith maybe? The Qunari do have some theories that they came from Dragons, and the creatures that might be the "Scaled Ones" look really Dragon-y. Iron Bull also says:
"The people we came from? They're called the Kossith, but we don't use that name for the race. We came south to Thedas because the Kossith were...*sigh* I don't know. We had to leave. The stories weren't clear. But I don't expect they looked much like us, whatever they are."
That all, tied with how Kieran says he feels bad for what happened to the Qunari Inquisitor's people, and that their blood does not belong to them, and what Corypheus said about the Qunari Inquisitor, really makes me think they're part-dragon and possibly the Scaled ones that the Evanuris fought.
Ironically, she wears the Vallaslin of Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets.”
Now alone it’s nothing, but after the concept art and release of the Dragon Age 4 Trailer, where we see someone holding what 1st appears to be a staff with a large stone, symbol, or crystal on the top, only to then pull back on a magical string and shoot an arrow. Dalish never claims to be a mage, and in fact says otherwise anytime someone says that she is. She also claims that her Keeper thought she should see the world. From what we know of the ancient elves that are alive today, they often are hidden and secluded so that would make sense that Dalish should “see the world”. (Possibly as an agent of The Dread Wolf, but that’s a whole other theory I have that’s even more iffy, but it would make sense as to why she left her clan if that’s the case though, beyond just exile.)
Now with the Vallaslin of Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets, we can assume she wouldn’t just explain right then how the magic works and etc., but I do believe she’s being honest when she claims not to be a mage.
Naturally, the Chantry's templars rarely acknowledge that distinction.”
Now, I’ll also direct to the the Spirit Warrior subclass from Dragon Age Origins.
“Among the ancient elves, there were mages who trained their magical arts to augment their martial prowess. They channeled magical power through their weapons and bodies, becoming terrors on the battlefield. Most consider these skills lost forever, but they may still linger in forgotten corners of the world. Arcane warriors may learn to use their magic score to satisfy the strength requirement to equip higher-level weapons and armor.”
Whenever Dalish is called a mage, she states that’s not the case and that her bow with the crystal on top is an old Elven trick that we wouldn’t understand.
If my memory is correct, the Qunari actually came from the East. I think it's the humans that came across the Northern Ocean.
So most likely the ancient arcane warriors had vallaslin that had the same magical properties as Fenris'
Also it means that the Dalish hella misinterpreted the vallaslin, not only were they slave markings, but could've been literal magical chains that bound the slaves. No wonder Solas wanted to remove Lavallen's lol.
Solas only removes vallaslin from a romanced female inq too lol sorry male ing friend, you're stuck with them
Makes sense that they changed the Sentinels back to elves.
Always a delight when a video pops up 😊
Been waiting for this one! Always great work!
So does any lore pertain as to where humans actually came from? All I’ve gotten from playing the game just sums up to: “humans just arrived and were just there”. I mean, humans by themselves is already so mundane, I’m kinda hoping they have a more interesting origin than “they were just there”
Was excited to see this notification 😁😁😁
It's so good to see a new video from you!
In the library the voice over we hear they say that Solas took their immortality so they must of known
What if The Scaled Ones are early Qunari? Although the lack of horns is a bit iffy if that were the case
I feel like even though solas is being viewed as the villain, I feel like he's just homesick with truly good intentions and I feel like solas is going to be the good guy in the end.
I feel like there is a chance that the war the elves fought that gave rise to the evanurius was the executors. Especially since solas seems afraid of them
I think that the Evanuris lived somewhere (maybe the black city?Arlathan?) and that the land was divided into big cities ruled by kings (or rulers) who was maybe also divided again into lands ruled by nobles. all those together were united into Elvhenan the empire. so each nobles maybe had more of an allegiance towards one Evanuris and branded their slaves/people with Valasslins of them.
maybe the elves came from somewhere else like humans and that's where legends of Elgar'nan comes from or they were not united and fought against each other until some groups took over the others.
for magic since the fade is the relm of imagination everything you thought and felt were copied by spirits and shaped the fade part of the world and not the reality part of it.
i think solas is the maker and ive thought that for a while
Considering what's going on currently with the lore, surprised I didn't find The Dread Wolf in your lineup.
When I grow up I wanna be an ancient elf
i love your content so much
8 thousand years? 😂 I don't know what is worst. That Lavellan is with an acent or Solas finds technically a child attractive due to world info and knowledge 😂 This was great 🙏
That old video sounds like an entirely different person 😳
Great job Caitie!!
Yes!! I wonder what it would have looked like
Still think Arlathan is the black city
New to this fandom! Honest question: if the elves of Thedas are not Solas' people, who are his people? I understand why Solas is frustrated with the Dalish. I mean they don't know the truth about him and their non-gods. But that's not truly their fault right?
He considers the ancient elves, from Elvhenan, as his people. That's why he feels so much regret about what he did cause he feels that he killed his people. He sees the modern elves as little more as tranquil and doesn't associate much with modern elves, but seems to change his mind a bit by trespasser.
Great video! Do we have any interesting information about the reavants?
I missed you!
Could this city of Elves be the Golden City?
Your sick voice is my jam.
Lol "Toe freedom"
So I've had a loose theory bouncing around in my head and this seems like a good video to mention it:
Would it be more plausible that the Old Gods were/are the Forgotten ones as opposed to the Evanuris? We know very little about the Forgotten Ones, and most of the connections between the Evanuris and The Old Gods are due to process of elimination or very minor similarities. Also, the Forgotten ones would have good reason to want the Fade breached. This got me thinking about who or what the Forgotten ones would be in this scenario and down the rabbit hole I went. Tin foil hats may be necessary for the following:
We know from Solas that demons are just spirits that are twisted and removed from their purpose. (I know Elgar'nan is connected to Vengeance, but I feel rage fits just as well)
The Forgotten Ones could be a mirror of the Evanuris.
Nice!
You beat me to the first comment, congrats
For some reason. The Elvhenan lore is kinda similar to our Ancient Astronouts history here in real life 🤔
Like for example.
Why do you still dont have subtitles on your videos? Shameful honestly.
I hate elves so much for blaming me for arlathan and their enslavement.specially that story teller at the dalish camp
