    I love it. This brought me memory of my old friend who taught me how to portage. I have been looking for RAV4 roof rack solution and decide to go with Dry bag instead of boxes because of this video. I move to downtown last month and height restriction on many underground garage was a big concern but this is the best solution.

    I use a Rightline Gear Sport 3 Cargo Bag on a cargo basket. It is large enough to hold lots of other bags, tents, etc. And all those other items it holds don't have to be in waterproof bags of their own. So far it has been completely water proof. Very well made. And the price is good at $120.

      I just put this in my cart based on your experience and I found the 18cf for $80. Hope I can get rid of the contractor trash bags now. Lol thanks again.

      Wanted to say thanks. My bag arrived yesterday and I tried it out right away. I put in 2 magnum sleeping bags. Cabelas 6man guide tent, cot, 2 dogs beds and I had some extra room for clothes.

    Nice video, may i add:
    1. When strapping down gear in a cargo basket, its best to secure the straps through the strongest tie in points, which in this case is the crossbars, it is not recommended to strap them to the basket itself, which is not designed or rated to take much force on their round bars. That being said, a light load such as clothing or

    After reading countless reviews on flimsy Roof Boxes, I decided to bring out my old Dry Bags (119L Seal Line) out of storage. Bought them for my Overlanding trips 20 years ago.
    Quick question, I not only not want a Roof Box but I don't want a Roof Rack. I have a Subaru '22 Outback, do you think car roof damage or a less than secure load would result from just using roof rails?

  • @gregm8871
    @gregm8871 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey folks, great recommendation for roof bags. Beats the heck out of those oversize generics on the market that are generally too big and actually tend to leak. I've always used the smaller dry bags for kayaking trips but now I'm certain to get some of these for the rain up here on the Olympic Peninsula.
    Do you still boat?

    Hey Mark I sent you an email about over loading the roof racks and just wondering if you happen to see the email? My email was talking about 3 different load ratings, static, on and off roading load ratings. Seeing this video is a good example about load ratings for all roof racks. I like the waterproof bags!

    • @WanderlostOverland
      @WanderlostOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, your email "slipped through the cracks". I found it now though.
      Roof weight limits have always been a big concern for us. That's the primary reason why we don't have a RTT. I think Ronny Dahl did a good job explaining it in his latest video.

      @@WanderlostOverland My goal was hopefully to have as many of the local TH-camr's bring this awareness to everyone here. I am still watching many TH-camr's showing how much items that can be put up top on to the rack without weighing anything that is going up top. I am sure that you are aware that if you are not moving, the OEM Load Rating for the 4RNR is 600 lbs stock. On Road is still 600 lbs and Off Road is only 2/3 the weight. Why does the aftermarket roof rack companies still show that their load ratings is much higher then the OEM load rating. That is a Static weight that it can hold if mounting on the ground and not mounted on a vehicle. How can we allow the aftermarket companies to continue to do this to the customer without bringing the awareness to everyone and the damage that they can be doing to their vehicles? I do agree that Ronny Dahl did a great job of explaining this, but he is not a large TH-camr locally like your channel is.
      Please help me spread the awareness to our local Overlanders as well. Thanks in advance

    I love your channel. Please don't make a habit of posting in 60FPS. People like me that has slow internet and nothing faster available where I live cant watch it except very low resolution that's too blurry to care. I think I've watched every episode you have. Some several times. I'm begging no 60FPS. Other than that... I want to go with you on an adventure. Must be something easy. My 4R is all stock. I do have plans to go to Outdoors In The Smokies soon. I think you been there once.
