Nice coverage. There is also one thing from Sony, that their representers told me. They will release a plugin for DaVinci Resolve (probably some other software too) for stabilisation which uses gyroscope data from their cameras. In October. And it will not be free.
28K is an unbelievable price for a medium format 17K camera. And that too with an in-house sensor now for the already great blackmagic image and colour. It's an easy buy for rental houses and in turn an extremely affordable entry point to 70mm cinema. Imagine, as a young producer, being able to get imax ready acquisition format for your indie project for a package that is cheaper than an alexa mini system per day. Not to mention that the burano sitting at 25K makes this look even better😂
Black Magic has been absolutely killing it with both the quality and price of their products in recent years. I really hope they’ll see wider industry adoption of their cameras. They give greedy companies like RED a run for their money!
If it can handle the dynamic range that they claim it would be an absolutely great deal. If I owned a rental business I would get one because I know lower budget productions would love to be able to dip their toes into the IMAX experience
WARNING: The firmware for the Sony FX3 was bricking a number of the cameras out there. It's been suspended, but if you have found or downloaded Version 6.0: DO NOT INSTALL IT.
For the Ursa Cine 12k id love to a comparison test with the Arri cameras preferably the Alexa 65 or the Alexa mini LF. Id also love to see the dynamic range test, ISO (Low light capability), color bit depth and color science, slow mo etc. Otherwise great video and thanks for always delivering your best.
Check to see if you can find an HBO comparison test, I was just at a camera comparison test in NYC. They only show it projected so it may be difficult but they compared the Ursa, Mini, Raptor, Venice, film and Alexa 35 in various tests including dynamic range. The Ursa did well for its price point but failed to compare to the others. Look for HBO Camera Assessment Series.
I may be wrong, but I seriously doubt anybody with Alexa 35 money will go for a Blackmagic Camera. I'm pulling for BM, because they can definitely become a top contender in the market... but that's a VERY bold move, Cotton... let's see if it pays off.
Blackmagic has been used as C and D cameras and action cams for a while now for their 'good enough, cheap enough' quality. So you are right. Sony and Arri is still on top in the current market. But BlackMagic already has already been creeping up in the high end of commercial and film industry. Just not as an A cam.
Haven't done it with the Alexa 35, but we use blackmagic pockets as c and d cams to the Alexa's all the time for multicam interviews. They hold up shockingly well in a controlled environment. We have even talked about swapping out minis and Amira for the ursa cine 12k once we get our hands on it.
I think a new low-mid end budget prime roundup video would be great. Nisi Athena’s, Thypoch Simera-C, Irix, Sirui Night Walker, & any others that make sense. Could also see a video like that on a lot of the new cheaper anamorphic’s. Anyways great video & thanks for reliably providing great information!
Thanks for watching and the kind words! We’ve been wanting to do a new spherical and anamorphic lens shootout! Hopefully we can asap, especially with so many options on the market now. Jake
I’d love to see how well the Ursa Cine 12k matches with the 6k full frame/pyxis. As well as its low light performance. And if it downscales from 12k I to 9,8,and 4k; as opposed to line skipping
***Image Quality Test*** Ursa Cine 12k, side by side testing alongside Arri Alexa LF & 35. When testing alongside the Alexa 35, please set Ursa Cine 12k resolution to 9k. Thank You in Advance!
Question: I would love to see how the Ursa Cini 12K stacks up against a red V raptor, a Sony Burano, and some form of Arri Alexa. That would include the raw files. Do you think you can make that happen when you release your review?
For Ursa Cine 12k testing: 1. Dynamic range/latitude test compared to Arri/Sony/Red 2. Quality of files when using scaled resolutions (8k and 4k) 3. Quality of 9k S35 mode 4. Battery life 5. Media Management/offloading. Do you really need that ridiculous rack-mount card reader? CF express module availability?
Yeah. The fx30 and fx3 updates had issues with autofocus with certain 3rd party lenses with outdated firmwares. I updated my fx30 and it totally broke the AF of my Samyang lens. I had to buy one of those Samyang lens updater docks to update the lens to the latest version. To be honest, updating the lens made the AF better than earlier and the the lens now also supports temporary AF override.
I'm VERY interested in the Simera-C set. Please do take a look at those when you have a chance. I bought the Arles A-set and could not be happier with them. They are just gorgeous lenses. So it will be very interesting to see how the SImera-C set compares, and whether it will be reasonable to use for gimbal work to intercut with footage taken with the Arles set.
Good video thanks for taking the time to put together ❤ id like to see some matchmoving tests using the footage from the ursa 12k footage. And obviously all the things related to that, lens distortion (lens and focal length depending), rolling shutter etc. Doesnt need to be a full vfx shot. More a test of its massive resolution and its 2D/3D pixel tracking error rates 😊
75mm lens for Inspire 3 is a much needed addition. 50mm on that full frame didn’t go very tele at all. Also excited for the SmallHD 10”. Often feel like 7” is not enough and 13” is heavy and bulky for a more remote location.

No FX6 or FX9 replacement really puts Sony in a tricky place with the C400 and C80, and niw the Pyxis on the market...Don't know what their strategy is long term, but they got too big for their britches with the $25K Burano.
Was hoping to see the FX9II at IBC, bummer. Also more interested in a 24mm GMII than the 85, so I hope that’s next. Of course I’m really hoping for a 24-105 F2.8 PZ OSS lens to really complete the FX6 as the ultimate handheld run and gun camcorder.

E mount user here. I recently dropped my ef sigma glass for all native mount. I’m realizing that I really miss the sigma 24-70/2.8 with is on my fx6 to the point where I’m looking at picking up a Sony 24-105. I really wish the new sigma 24-105 had stabilization but oh well.
18:52 YES I am an fx30 shooter and mainly work with the 18-35 and 50-100 f1.8 sigma pair. Great lenses and hoping the filter is good because that could be a game changer for me
For the Ursa Cine 12k please provide some example footage of the 12k cropped down to 4k. I tested it with Blackmagic’s RAW test footage they uploaded, but it doesn’t seem to work when cropping that much, the image appears to have some artifacts and softness. I would love to know for sure if this 12k is actually usable, or maybe you need too expensive glass to have something that’s sharp enough for this level of cropping. Thanks for the video.
Wow so much stuff! Cinema stuff seems to peak out then grow, then repeat, looks like we’re in a peaked moment for the next lil while until the next major innovation tech starts to dominate. 5 years? W do u think?
Really curious about Tilta x LC Tech eND for matteboxes, would be perfect if it's priced under $2000 compared to purchasing a bunch of 4x5.65 NDs at $500-700 each
With the Ursa Cine 17k 65 coming in at that price. Seems like it would have a market for lower budget films to be able to dip their toes in IMAX without using the Arri 65 or an actual IMAX film camera. I just hope they actually have the amount of dynamic range they are claiming and have a decent sensor readout speed, because the full frame pocket and Pyxis leave much to be desired. Especially with their frame rate limited to 36 fps at the full resolution. I would have gotten the Pyxis if it had at least 50/60 fps at the full 6k.
As an FX30 owner, I am upset by the 5.0 firmware update. Yes, we got Shutter Angle. (About time for a "cinema" camera, no?) But, and it's a huge but (pun intended), the firmware broke something. I am currently in an email thread with Sony trying to figure out why my FX30 insists I use a CF Express card for recording in 4K DCI. A change caused by the update. I had no problem recording in 4K DCI onto SD cards before. Sony is equally puzzled by this. They've been asking me to change various settings to correct this. Of course, I'm not the only one with issues. Another user says his AF no longer works on his FX30 because of the firmware update. Anyway....thanks for the IBC coverage. I'm actually interested in the Canon C80. It looks like a great new camera.
I'm desperately hoping Sigma does produce the cine style lenses. The 28-105 as a cine lens is the perfect lens for the way I shoot and now I am holding off purchasing it in hopes of the cine version. I've been wanting lenses exactly like this for some time now. I'm a solo operator and prefer the layout of the cine lenses, but I need AF for when I shoot interviews. I conduct the interviews myself with multiple cameras so it is completely unrealistic to pull focus manually while they're occurring.
Ursa Cine 12k Review Request: I would love to see if they have any other methods for exporting media off the camera other than directly plugging the camera into your laptop. Would love to see what the official dynamic range ratings are, as well as if it has dual base ISO. Of course, low light tests!
I want to know the power consumption of the BlackMagic Cine cameras. They are being very cagey about posting that in their specs and with moving to the 24volt batteries I suspect power usage is going to be a limiting factor on these when they hit the market.
I shot some footage to compare the Ursa G2 footage with the sigma fp footage , the sigma fp footage color looks so much better than the Ursa G2. Black magic should work on that .
PortKeys was the first to have wireless Sony control... and wirelessly tallied red when the camera started recording. I'm struggling to understand why competitors are so slow to implement that
For the 12k test it would be cool to see the actual resolving power. Achtel tested the major cameras and current 12k resolves less detail than Alexa 4.5k
For the FX 30 Sony doesn’t have the download on their page for version five how is everyone getting this? I am having major trouble trying to connect to the creators app as well.
@@SuperPhunThyme100Twas a major bummer. I adored the Eva1. Preferred it to the FS7 and would've loved to see how a Eva1 followup would've completed with the FX6/9

Blackmagic Pyxis makes me less excited for a possible box shaped Blackmagic cinema camera at 1.5-2k price range. Dunno why it's taken them so long to take over this entire segment. I would immediately buy 3 box bmpccs, slap 24-100mms on them and I can shoot pretty much every wedding scenario with a portable setup that fits in a carry on. Seriously, Blackmagic. Come on. Give me a Pyxis-M. 4k50fps, 12bit, 2/3 of the Pyxis size, no monitor at all. Let me connect them through a wireless system to a main monitor that can swap between all connected cameras and control their settings on the go.
The commentry states a couple of times: "Its not IP rated". That is a pretty meaningless phrase, as the full gamut of the IP rating system starts at zero-zero: IP00 means no protection for particulates or moisture - so every product has an assumed IP00 rating, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Iphone is winning the perception market and now with a new movie entirely made on iphone I think we are going to see a decline in pro gear being bought. clients now think their phone on their pocket has the best camera on the market

For the 12k test it would be cool to see the actual resolving power. Achtel tested the major cameras and current 12k resolves less detail than Alexa 4.5k
the red komodo in Norway has dropped but it's still more expensive than us and UK
What about teh 5 new sets at GL Optics Jake 😉
For the FX 30 Sony doesn’t have the download on their page for version five how is everyone getting this? I am having major trouble trying to connect to the creators app as well.
There is a graphic at 2:12 saying that they’ve been recalled. We recorded this audio before the took the firmware down. Jake
Still waiting for the Sony shutter angle firmware to be available again 😅
Wait, didn't Sony remove the V. 6 update for FX 3 and 30 due to a mistake and can and have bricked several cameras?

I guess Panasonic has left the game...
They left in 2017 with EVA1. And that's it. They are done. Shame.
@@SuperPhunThyme100Twas a major bummer. I adored the Eva1. Preferred it to the FS7 and would've loved to see how a Eva1 followup would've completed with the FX6/9
@@SuperPhunThyme100 Have you used an S1H? Without a cinema line to protect they didn't hold back. Its image quality is superior, and they are far from done.
@Nemastic No ND filters, built in XLRs are a no go for me. I need a true video form factor.
@@SuperPhunThyme100 Big old heavy camera rigs will become a thing of the past as next generation mirrorless shooters use their hyper mobility to get the equivalent job done faster, cheaper with more coverage.
You said that z-cam had 4 new cameras and then listed the F6 Mk2 twice !?
S6 mark ii. Jake
Can't wait for the Simera-Cs!
This is the best recap of IBC 2024! Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Jaks
This is all cameras. What about lenses?
Are you watching the same video as the rest of us?
Half the video was lenses man
Editing error at 13:05 😂 😂
Kind of disappointed with the lack of Sony announcements this year! Hopefully 2025 will be a better year for Sony.
if only the pxys was anything more than a square bmpcc 6k, they really could have competed in the c70 fx6 arena
It really needed to have at least 50/60 fps at the full resolution and more than just BRAW and it would have been better
Don't get the new update for the FX3! It bricks the camera.
I seriously did not watch this for a laugh... But, that lens... You know what I mean. PS mad is the understatement of the year.
The commentry states a couple of times: "Its not IP rated". That is a pretty meaningless phrase, as the full gamut of the IP rating system starts at zero-zero:
IP00 means no protection for particulates or moisture - so every product has an assumed IP00 rating, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
I just want to be incredibly rich🤣
Iphone is winning the perception market and now with a new movie entirely made on iphone I think we are going to see a decline in pro gear being bought. clients now think their phone on their pocket has the best camera on the market
