Bless you, Beverly. Bipolar disorder can be crippling, most especially the depression side of it. Remember a walk of 10,000 miles starts with the first step. Give yourself permission to take baby steps. If you can't clean the entire house in one day, then just do one room. If one room is too much just do the tidying in that room, or the floors, or the dusting. Small things that only take a few minutes, once done, give you a great sense of accomplishment. This will motivate you to do a bit more. Best wishes to you. I too know how debilitating depression can be.

It took years to learn this, but a lived-in house is leagues more comfortable and welcoming that a perfectly kept house. Visitors are not fully comfortable in a perfect setting, they are more comfortable when things are not so perfect (which is different than disaster). Example: my sofa once was perfect - smoothed, arranged, plumped, oh so AD tasteful, but no one ever sat on it. Once I started to be less fussy, my visitors sat on the sofa and enjoyed the evening.

She would be the first one to say that she didn't have time to think about it, she just knew it had to be done. Some how, with 5 children, she always found the time to sew clothes, teach Sunday school, throw birthday parties, gave us amazing holidays...the list goes on and on. I always dreaded piles of laundry to fold. My husband always felt like he did his share to wash and dry and pile it up for me to fold and put away. But, I didn’t like dealing with wrinkly items. In 2013 - I created a new process. I fold clothes straight from the dryer. And put it all away. It usually takes about 10 minutes each load. If necessary I can rewarm or freshen the load for a few minutes to reduce wrinkles before folding. I do a load a day as needed. Sometimes none and sometimes more - depending on the day and my plans. I’m not opposed to hanging laundry to dry and I do that for small loads.

I’m sitting here stunned. This is the first video I’ve come across that just nailed it and I didn’t even know I was trying to hammer anything LOL. I’m so focused on my inner healing to be the healer I am here to be, or the entertainer/hostess since moving onto a boat (with NO dishwasher) and just getting through a 3 day Memorial Day weekend and coordinating a wedding. This stuff is supposed to be fun yet I’m depleted overwhelmed and mentally exhausted with a list of important things that I actually have to get done just sitting here. Like make my doctors appointment, call about unmailed prescriptions, fill out the form for my passport expiring in September, box up and mail mom’s packages. On top of juicing every morning, eating healthy choices working from home (Not always easy with hubby’s chocolate drawer and Carb cabinet) and forcing myself onto my stationary bike that is supposed to make my life easier and healthier but because its so LOUD and outside on the front of the boat, it feels like I’m screaming on the top of a mountain when I get on it. There are so many blessings in those statement and I feel so blessed but want to cry at the same time. Just to see you on point with how we are overwhelmed, how to adjust it AND you have six kids - my LORD Bless you beautiful lady! Am I doing this to myself? How do I slow it down? I’m really struggling right now with a few remaining subconscious emotions that debilitate and stop me building my business and staying focus on THAT healing that absolutely needs to be done is exhausting in itself. I don’t even have any children and it feel embarrassing I can’t get it together just taking care of myself. I have so much to give and I am here to serve with my gifts, I - we as women just have to get out of our own way. Honestly the quicker I can lock in and clear this specific subconscious block of “Messing it up”’ or “Not getting it right” “Doing it wrong” it would stop the overwhelming cycle. Well It’s 8 am and I’m going to see how much of it I can get done as I work today. Just seeing you share this cycle that seems to be “normal” LOL has me shaking my head and laughing. I was looking for Borax videos since I just bathed in it last night and your video popped up next! Thank you for being here and being so authentic. We need more of this!

Great tips! I'm 72 and have a mild form of MS but was told by an occupational therapist that I need to do everything like housework and cleaning in increments so we have to go by the same principles as you do! When the summer heat/humidity gets bad, our energy depletes quickly! So we have to do anything we can to conserve energy since it's an energy depleting auto-immune disease! If you want to know how it feels when it's hot/humid, it's like walking around with your feet encased in cinder blocks and dragging one's feet and walking in those humongous super-sized super markets is like climbing Mt. Everest! I call it the slow motion disease! So keeping everything simple and easy is paramount same with comfort! Thanks and blessed be~

I have no idea why your video ended up in my TH-cam suggestions, but thank you. I have been overwhelmed since my husband passed unexpectedly four years ago. I have a big rambling house, land, horses, dogs, chickens. I look after the animals, their areas are spotless, but I put off doing anything about my house and garden, and the more I put it off, the more it seems a problem to do the simplest thing like clean dead flies off the windowsill. I have compressed my life into living in the kitchen/dining room, which is large, but I seem to ignore the rest of the house. Until my husband went on that next journey, I was always, lively, sparkly, energetic, now I feel like zombie woman from outer space. I seem to have channelled Scarlett O'Hara (I'll think about it tomorrow, after all, tomorrow is another day!) I want Scarlett to go and would like to channel Doris Day in one of her 1950's efficient, housewife, movie personas. I am going to try your 54321, right now, not tomorrow to cook something for dinner and do the dishes. I look forward to more inspiration from you and thank you for creating your channel, while dinner is cooking I will check out the Clutter-Free Army.

I am older kids are grown and moved away. I am single, so its all on me to get whatever done. I was laid up for over 2 months after a bad fall, I broke my left arm in 3 places had to have metal pins put in to hold everything together, I also fractured a vertabrae. I was in bed for over 2 months, now i have the problem of I can only stand for about 15 mins at a time before my back goes into muscle spasms. Honestly right now there are dishes piled in the sink, I have to move things off my stove to cook, and you cant see my counters due to dishes piled up, I even have some dirty roasting pans sitting on the floor, The rest of my house is not much better off.
I feel like I am in such a deep hole with it all that I cant even organize my thoughts about where to begin and then how to get it done..I dont have a dishwasher, and my washing machine is on the blitz so I am hand washing the minimum just to get by. I am disabled and money is very limited, repairs have to be saved up for

So sorry Jeaniej! I would just focus on the dishes first. Just aim for 5 minutes at a time, that way you can get a few washed and relax before your back starts acting up. Let yourself relax for 45 minutes and then do another 5 minute sprint. If you can manage 4 of those today, you'll get 20 minutes of dishes done and it will make a dent!
Then I would call a local church or adult resource organization and just explain how you could use some help. Maybe they will have some people who would be willing to come and do some dishes and laundry for you. I'm sorry, washing clothes by hand is hard work too!

So my clutter was starting to get ahead of me when the hubs got sick. I hired a housekeeper t help every 2 wks, but it's not "perfect".....and I have to understand I can do a little at a time all the time, OR I can continue to be bitchy and unhappy because it's not this massive perfection.

Rachel, so nice to hear somebody else telling how challenging making a dentist appointment can be!!!! It makes me feel more normal. I've been searching for videos like this one for very long: where the difficulties behind the scenes are adressed. Because often times it's not so much about not knowing how to do it, but more about what blocks us from doing it. Looking forward to more videos on dealing with those sneaky toxic patterns.

I am here to report that I actually paused the video and made THREE dentist/referral/annual appointment calls that I've been avoiding making for weeks! I feel better already. I'll move on to the dishes next. I consider myself a minimalist-on-hiatus due to moving last year and a massive renovation that has us all living in 1/4 of our house right now. It gets overwhelming quickly!

Enjoyed this "well grounded" and realistic video. A few years ago I figured out that I procrastinate on a lot of little tasks that take less than a minute. For example,: putting a book back on a shelf, putting dirty clothes in a hamper instead of tossing them on a chair, throwing out the junk mail as soon as it is collected from the mail box instead of setting it on a pile on a counter, putting my shoes on a shoe rack instead of kicking them off in the middle of the floor. If I make myself do the little 30 second tasks consistently I don't get overwhelmed and fed up with eventual hours of house work.

Good tips. It drives me crazy to have something on every surface, but somehow bare surfaces exert a gravitational pull on surrounding objects and before you know it, there's stuff all over them again. I've been fighting this battle for 30 years.
I have a motto that comes in handy when I"m procrastinating. I tell myself, "Energy begets energy." In other words, once I actually _start_ moving, I get the motivation to _keep_ moving. If only I didn't wait so long to actually start moving. 😄

    • @Anonymous-km5pj
      @Anonymous-km5pj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

i heard it's the start-up energy that is most repulsive, once we overcome the initial inertia tasks get done. Example was a fellow who wanted to learn guitar. Guitar sat in it's case, guy was overwhelmed w mental step of taking instrument out to pluck tho that step took 10 sec, once he realized this he simply left guitar propped up beside his chair, taught himself to play. God bless.
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

I don't blame you! It comes down to if you have preferences on how it looks. If you like it to look a certain way, then do it as self-care for yourself. If you honestly don't care if there is dust, as in, it doesn't annoy you in anyway, then don't stress it. And if it does annoy you, then either work little tasks into your daily life so they don't seem so time-consuming, or hire someone. ❤️

Am 70, grew up in my Granny's
a terrible hoarded place, left at 16.
Never expected in the later years to have same 😥😡
Was never like that, been struggling with it, not accomplished, for several years.
Sucks time from me for ..
something not traumatic, feel basically imprisoned.
    Sad, frustrated, OVERWHELMED,
    surely describes it.
Hoarders program, I used to watch, says it's a mental disorder, tied in with some kind of loss ..have had several losses, but the tipping point was my beloved husband, who left after 17 years, with dementia..
I can align with some You say...the perfection thing, which is really non action bc one some how has set too high of standards, feels unreachable, so, throws up their hands.
Not sure if this is a place where I might fit, or not.
Just wish I could find a way to get out of this, before...I'm gone.
Others(children, one) frustrated with me, bc they say Just throw it Out !!! What is so simplistic for them(thank God !!!), is agony for me...No doubt, your shares are helping some...one another.
Just wish it could be me.
I haven't given up, but is getting harder and harder ~God Bless.

I'm so glad you said it though. Everyone around me manicures their front yard, and probably wishes we'd move!

Yes! I knew I was in trouble the first year we moved here and the neighbor was vacuuming the leaves off her lawn with a shop vac. 🙈 😂

I love your realistic attitude to housekeeping...you are so right to say ditch perfectionism and live a happy life! Vacuuming once a week? That's really GOOD!

Thank you so much for this video & tips, they have helped me so much.
I’m single & live alone, so I’m responsible for everything in my house, especially the mess.😀
I’m definitely not into cooking from scratch - there’s nothing wrong with fish fingers, beans & chips etc.

Thank you for reminding me that perfection is a process and not the result... smell the flowers along the way. Bright Blessing, (thinking positive energy ), for you and your family.

That’s so true..I have amplified painting my kitchen cabinets...so far in 3 days I’ve deglossed two and the front of two cabinet doors...ugh...and I am that way...if I can’t paint these right the first time I don’t want to waste that energy also I’ve been soaking in the tub the last two hours.
