When my mama died at 48 from ovarian cancer, I went through her stuff. She had things from our elementary school days in a box in the attic. It took forever to go through everything. the papers had faded and macaroni had fallen off the creations we made. 😂 Let it go yall! I’m all for Swedish death cleaning.
My kids are 25, 23, and 18. I’m currently going through all the old school work and art. I came to the realization they don’t want it! I had old tshirts and sports jerseys made into quilts. I’m making one large box for each child’s memorabilia. The rest has to go! I’m super sentimental but it’s getting easier to toss!
@@kristencobb230yes my mom kept some stuff and kept giving it to me. I hung on to it awhile then finally ended up trashing almost everything, I just don't need or want it. I think it's generally the parents that are attached to all the kid stuff?
Good points here from all of you! Yes, as I read these, it does seem that it’s the parents who are most attached! Keeping a few things is often a nice idea, but there is really no need to keep most of it. ❤️👍🏼
I've been going through the stuff in my parents' attic (they're still alive), and I love seeing the stuff they've saved. I won't keep it, but it is nice to go through it and remember another time after 20years especially stuff from relatives that have passed.
To everyone if you haven’t watched the tv show Swedish death leaning on peacock you’ve gotta watch it. It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen. Really got my mom in the spirit of decluttering
This video is fantastic! You are hilarious and wise. What a great combination! You have so many great ideas on how to declutter! Can’t wait until the next video! ❤
1) I always put my donations in my car immediately! That way if I'm out and happen to either drive past the a center or just have a certain extra amount of time I already have them to drop off! I ALSO to write about dropping them off in the planner, but for errands like this I'm much more flexible, vs Dr appointments etc that can't be moved. 2) Also, I too and a 'penalty box' that I never called that but same idea. AND I make sure to write on it a 'ditch date's (usually for me it's about 6 months in the future) so if paperwork I can just shred it all without looking at it again. If it's donations, I can just donate the entire box without looking in it again. It's very important NOT TO look inside again because for many people that resets the 'maybe' mentality and therefore resets the timeframe again:(
You’re the best. I lythe penalty box. I’m in Florida, but believe it or not we have an ice hockey team called the Penguins! Why! Thanks for all your helpful hints and not giving up on TH-cam.

There is a difference between clutter and untidy. Just cause a place is untidy doesn't mean it is cluttered. And tidied-up clutter is still clutter. So basically, less clutter anddd tidy places are clean, organized, and peaceful.
I love your videos- you really are hilarious. I often laugh out loud. You are such a motivating and wise lady. Decluttering was never so much fun while listening to your vids. Best wishes from Lorraine in stinking hot rural NSW Australia 🤗🥵
We will be moving in a few months from a place we have lived for 30+ years. Any wisdom shared would be appreciated! I've downloaded your Easy Decluttering Handbook and can't wait to get started. 😊
Sounds great! 👍🏼 I recently interviewed Dana K. White of A Slob Comes Clean for an upcoming podcast and I noticed that her latest video is about tips for getting ready for a move, so you might want to check that out. She also has a few podcasts on this topic. Good luck and please join my Facebook group if you want to be able to check in and get support from people along the way!
I used to have too much stuff, I only noticed when I moved from my appartment to a house. Decorations that I diddnt want anymore, books and magazines that I diddnt even touch for a year. But also little nicnacs like old phone cases, supplements and medication, old cables.. lots of small things make a lot of clutter! Also got rid of 30% of my clothes. Im so much more calm.
Hi Robyn, enjoying this video and your advice. Thank you. Can I ask what would you recommend for downsizing young childrens sentimental items. Like new baby cards, birthday cards and drawings. My body goes in to stone statue mode and I am really stuck with this. Because like you quoted I don't want to burden my children or husband with excess in this department.
You can decide on a memory box and then you only keep what fits in that box. If you have 20+ cards from a baby shower, you can decide to keep them or you can decide to only keep a few or even one super special one. With baby clothes and drawings, try and only keep 1-2 per type or category. All of these things bring back memories or help someone imagine a certain time and that wonderful! The trick is to only keep enough to evoke the memory and not aaaaalllll of the items. I hope this helps!
@@mariaolker I live on the biggest highway in Australia and at the speed change place in town it’s difficult to get into my driveway at the best of times so adding a hazard like items in my driveway to cause accidents I would not do that
😍 If this looks familiar, fear not! I am trying something out (let me know if you like the strategy!)

Love the map. LoL

do you have two microwaves?
No, one is a toaster oven. Our house also came with two wall ovens! 👋🏼
I started in my attic, but I wasn't at risk for losing motivation
How did you know my name is Linda?
Is anyone having trouble getting the checklist to open??
Please send me an email if it’s still not working! Thanks! Robyn at Minimalist Home

If you have a Value Village they will take old textiles. When you are dropping things off just let them know that this is rags/end of life material.
