    I have to buy/fit the underlay myself because the carpet shop want too much money and this video confirms my confidence that I can do it myself so all the carpet fitter needs to do is fit the grippers and lay the carpet. Saved me half the cost of the underlay from carpet right. Thanks

    So do i not need to use gripper in the door way?? I'll be using a capet strip to hide the join in the carpets so is it best to gripper across the doorway on both sides then put the finishing strip over the top??

    • @travisparrott2923
      @travisparrott2923 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will correct you even with a finishing strips do use gripper because the carpet will go loose in the door way so should always be used in the door way unless a pinned naplock bar is going down which acts as gripper

  • @ForHeShallSave

    I laid mine with only a stanley knife and it looks exactly the same....
    People are just too cautious these days and want a professional finish on everything. You don't need it, lol. It's nice to have but the underlay goes under the finished product. As long as you don't lay it skee-wiff or over the grippers you're pretty much good to go. Don't lay it upside down either, I did that the first time :(

    • @semanticsamuel936
      @semanticsamuel936 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Why did you look up the video? Yes, I want a professional finish because I want my home to look good. You do need the underlay to add some thickness to the floor so the carpet is roughly level with the grippers, and it does need fixing or there's a good chance it'll ride up when you start putting the carpet down. A carpet fitting kit costs £20 - hardly expensive, and worthwhile for getting a really good, neat finish. It'll last forever so I have it for when I need to fit carpets again, or if I'm helping a friend. I don't doubt you can do it with a Stanley knife, but you're making it harder for yourself.

  • @batintheattic7293
    @batintheattic7293 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I don't want/need skirting boards - do I still need to leave a little tuck gap, between grippers and wall, all the way around the perimeter? If I leave that gap - will the carpet not eventually start to curl at the edges?

    • @ryantill1436
      @ryantill1436 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bat in the attic the gap is so the carpet is bolstered in to make it look neater

    • @batintheattic7293
      @batintheattic7293 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Ryan. I've left about a cm gap between wall and grippers. Still got to get the carpet up the stairs, so I don't know how it will work out, but I think you are right about leaving a gap making the final results neater.

    • @ryantill1436
      @ryantill1436 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bat in the attic no problem if it helps you can use you old carpet (if you kept it) as a template and cut your carpet about an inch wider on every side just makes less to carry up stairs and less to trim away
