  • Carpet can be super intimidating, but in a smaller room it's actually pretty do-able. This isn't meant for a large room install, just a small room. I'll go over the steps, tools, and considerations to make for a complete install so you'll be off installing on your own in no time! So follow along.

      Thanks very much! I'm glad you found it useful. It's a balancing act for the video. Give enough info while not taking too long. If people skip ahead, it hurts its performance, and the algorithm doesn't promote it. I try to always make things as beginner friendly as I can and answer questions I think people would ask.

    Pretty good video dude, as an installer I think you made it very clear for people wanting to do diy work. The tool you were thinking of with the poles is typically called a power stretcher, normally it's recommended to use one on all installations because the knee kicker is only for setup these days. I noticed you were using it as a computer room to I'd recommend getting one of those plastic or rubber office mats if you have a chair with wheels because they destroy carpet pretty quick.

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks man, appreciate it! I tried to make it as clear as I could that this method is for small rooms only. Yeah the power stretcher, I remembered it after lol oh well. I know the kicker isn't the normal go to method, but it can get the job done in a small space for people to tackle. I am now using a plastic mat yeah, I didn't want to wreck the new carpet. I had one on order but it wasn't in the video, and I didn't care about that gross old carpet lol. Thanks for watching and reaching out! Happy new year

    Great tutorial. I'm a carpet installer with 20+ yrs experience, and your video popped up on my feed.
    I can sit here and criticize all day, but I think you made a great video for DIY(s). The two big things I would recommend is using a knife specifically made for carpet, that is double edged (although one must be extremely careful in handling it). The other is when cutting the old carpet into smaller pieces, fold the carpet over so the backing is exposed. Carpet cuts much easier through the backing vs the top.

    Great video! thank you for the confidence boost. I also plan to redo the baseboards & carpet together and was searching for a video like yours (without tucking it under the base boards). how did it go installing baseboards afterwards? any tips or suggestions??

      Anytime, happy to help! Base is super easy to do after the carpet is done. I have a video that came out after the carpet video, all about baseboards of you want to check it out!

    What if you have concrete slab? How do you get the padding down properly?

  • @floorsbyfolts
    @floorsbyfolts ปีที่แล้ว

    if your right handed install tackstrip from right to left that way you can adjust strip with your left hand

    What if you install it and realize there’s slack somewhere after the carpet relaxes? And also how do you fix slack from previous carpet installs?

    Great tutorial thank you! I’d need to do this and my flat is basement - am I weird for being completely horrified to start removing the carpet since I have the feeling there is gonna be SO MANY spiders or things like that 😭
    Does anyone have any experience or advice (apart from “man up and remove that carpet”?)😅😂
    Thank you!

    This is such a great video! Can I use a staple gun instead of the stapler you used for the underlay?

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! For sure you can. Your hand might be a little sore after and it'll take longer. The hammer tracker is pretty cheap, I think I snagger this one for $18 CAD

    Great in detail video man! Had a question, I’m needing to replace the baseboards anyways, should I lay the carpet then install the baseboards and tuck it? Or have it up to the wall and install the baseboards so no tucking needed? Which would be better?

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, I appreciate it. If I can, I always want to do baseboard last, after any type of flooring was installed. But that's me, I know others who would do it first, then carpet. Hope that kinda helps lol I know it's a non answer, but that's what I would do.

    Great video man! How much did this run you in the end and also, you have a video about doing the skirtings too?

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks man! It ran me about $450 from a local place for underlay and carpet. If you mean the baseboard, I do actually. I have a new one that should be in the house renos Playlist, but also not too far back from the top of all my videos if you go down the list

    I've never actually seen what decent flooring looks like. My whole life I've been used to the ol' sawdust-and-glue flooring. (Which falls apart as soon as it even slightly gets wet 😬) It's kind of weird to see a floor without it.
    But anyway, thanks dude. I've been wanting to get a bunny bit my carpet is NOT suitable for a bunny at all so I've been trying to learn how to replace it without buying all those tools the home depot and lowe's videos have been telling me to buy.
    Very helpful ty!

    I have a recessed den with a 16 X 12 rectangle area with carpet. Could I use just the knee or kicker or would I need the power stretcher?

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd lean to the power stretcher. That's getting to be pretty long and you wouldn't want any waves over time

    Thanks for this video, if you were not putting the base board (skirting) down, would you recommend painting first and then lay the carpet down?

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No prob. I'd always paint first then do flooring. Then you should only need to do touch ups if the carpet scratched anything
