This is the perfect video I was looking for. I bought a Springfield 1911A1 Target 9mm and i'm going to replace the front sight with a fiber optic. I wanted to be sure which direction to remove the sight and install the new one. Also showing that there is a pin in the front sight to drift out was great. Thanks for posting. 😉

Had to evenly rub the bottom of dovetail against my sharpening stone (per one of the tricks you mentioned) and after about 4 minutes I was finally able to get it started into slide. Sight replacement all complete.

You may never see this, but if you Do: I have a new Springfield 1911 TRP .45 and if I understand you correctly I should use the .260 - .450 set for the 5” barrel? I have a question. I have a kimber and i never change a sight before now i need to change it but a sight extremely tight from factory. The best way to punch a sight out for a first time is use brass punch and hammer right? Thanks for answer.
I used a brass punch and small brass hammer and had no issues on my Kimber. Put a little tape on the end of the punch and it will prevent the brass from marking the slide. Even if it does it's no big deal, just put a little gun oil on the brass mark and scrub it with a toothbrush and it will come right off.
not to mention 70% of everyday gunsmiths are trash and will ruin your sights if lucky if not lucky your dovetail or gun .. better off doing it yourself if your the type to actually change and experiment with sights thoughout your shooting journey if your a real shooter its worth having the tools for a lifetime of adjustments and diy jobs
There's so many amateur blunders in this video I wouldn't hold it creditable for anything. First off mistaking "duct tape" for "masking tape" should have been the first clue. Any reknob weekend warrior with a tool belt and a credit card knows better than that, never mind a professional tradesman. Next you never use a torch on a firearm. Use a electric heat gun or use a soldering iron to heat the screw itself, not everything around it. Don't use acetone on firearm finishes or sights...it can/will melt or eat them off. Rubbing alcohol of 70% or higher would be far safer. Birchwood Casey Synthetic Safe Gun Scrubber would be good too. "SYNTHETIC SAFE"......!!!! I would never clamp a gun part in a vice with aluminum blocks and start whacking on it. Ain't you ever heard of wood dude? It crushes to fit the shape especially if it is pine and doesn't mar the finish. Instead of whacking on sights with punches, MGW sight pushers and Harbor Freight 1 Ton mini-presses work much much better. You use force and pressure, NOT blows! Last TruGlo sights suck........Novak on 1911s all the way and on some pistols Meprolight tritium night sights as well are far better. So much for "expert"......you're a legend in your own mind! Also Wilson Combat Ultima Lube II Universal and Mil Comm TW-25B grease works well in Kimbers and other tightly fitted 1911s. Most of the bad rap 1911s get are from some joker using some cheap Wal-Mart crap. Better yet when some modern polymer wonder 9mm owner trash talks your 110 year old designed pistol....only to find out yours is just as reliable and is more accurate. That is a jaw-drop moment that their smack talking will be buying pizza and beer later for!! Get a Lyman digital trigger pull gauge and a Weigland 1911 extractor tension gauge and a Weigland 1911 extractor adjusting tool. You want to maintain and tune your extractor to somewhere between 25 oz - 28 oz tension. A very good Bullseye comp load used for over 60 years is as followed... Mixed brass trimmed 0.888" H&G #68 200 grain LSWC sized 0.452" COL 1.250" Taper crimp 0.469" Bullseye powder 4.8 - 5.0 grains Winchester WLP or CCI, Federal large pistol primer seated 0.002" below flush 1" or less at 25 yards all day long. You can substitute a 230 FMJ or round nose bullet and use the same loading specs if you wish. Accuracy will be slightly diminished but they still shoot great. Also you can substitute other 200 grain semi wadcutter profile bullets and use the same loading specs. 1.250" - 1.260" COL with a 0.469" taper crimp is the "sweet spot" for a 1911 .45 ACP pistol. If you want to change out the sights on a 1911 .45 ACP pistol the only choice I would use are Novak Sights as I believe them to have the best sight picture and have been used for decades. Sure there are more modern flavor of the weeks but you can't go wrong with a Novak Sight tritium night sights, plain black or white 3-dots. Stay away from fiber optic fronts and U notch rear sights. They are less precise and won't be able to obtain the accuracy that [_] square notch rear sights will. Fiber optics are for speed but tritium is far superior in every way. They don't melt and or break/fall out either if it is a heavy use weapon or carried a lot. I'm middle aged guy WELL over 40 and have been a 1911 .45 ACP guy my whole life.

Most mil spec 1911s don't have a dove tail front sight, so that would be a no... unless you have the ability to cut a dovetail
