Having listened to and played Brazilian music for 40 years, professionally, I'd say there is no comparison between the profit oriented noise and the traditional, Human-Condition based nature of this most beautiful of all musics.

@@Samana009 true but i cant even find the right words to express how i feel when i listen to bossa nova or brazilian music in general. i play the guitar and listened to good music from elsewhere my whole life, nothing even comes close to hitting the sweet spot like this kind of music does. The steezy effortlessness when singing the melodies underlined with the awesome voicings of the chords go instantly under your skin if you listen closely. Its chill but also progressive so you can listen to it when relaxing or/and working or sports etc. I can never get enough of it and it makes literally every situation in my life 5x times better. Not a single western chart song in the last 10 years has made me even THINK this much like i just wrote. I think thats the type of music he was talking about

thanks but Brazil isn't just Bossa Nova and Carnival, actually this is just in a few states like Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. Other states have their own culture like Rio Grande do Sul with música gaúcha Cêara with Forró and Goiás with música sertaneja.
It's too bad the Amazon rainforest is being destroyed day by day, and their government is doing absolutely nothing about it. Not to mention the ever-growing favelas and slums. The idyllic image Westerners have of Brazil is wayyyy off the mark.
That said, every Brazilian person I've ever met has been amazingly gracious and hospitable. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome (generalisation ;P).
My mom was from Rio Brazil. I´ve been there three times but last time was in 1988. I´m 44 YO. I miss my family from there so much. The other part my father is half Swedish and Danish, I´ll pray for coming back to my other roots. BRAZIL BRAZIL....

Tivemos Carlos Gomes, Heitor Villas Lobos e varios outros grandes nomes da musica classica. Acho que Bossa nova foi a musica de classe para as massas. E quela musica que o Rico até o pobre vão ouvir em suas casas, bares, ruas e etc.. Mas oque falta no brasil é o investimento na educação o povo brasileiro esta cada vez mais feliz em ouvir musicas idiotas sem melodia, poesia as vezes sem sentido algum.

The music itself is a language, and it's a universal language. Music like this trancends race, religion, political leanings, everything. Music speaks to all of us, and it's saying "Hello, let's put aside our differences and enjoy ourselves". And music like this speaks of love, restful days, playing on the beach carefree and youthful, you and your lover in an embrace, etc. Music is the only truly universal language, and Antonio Carlos Jobim is a master linguist.

I love this music so much I started learning Portuguese about seven years ago. It's hard but after that Spanish is easy. It's worth the hundreds, even thousands of hours invested.

What a wonderful and beautiful culture. I see Brazilian tourists every day and they are wonderful and cultured and civilized people. I have now begun to study Portuguese and look forward to singing the melodies of Mr. Jobim as well.

When I listen to this music all I can think of is Rio de Janeiro Ever since I was a boy about 12 13 all I ever wanted to do is visit Rio,I'm 63 now I have never had the chance,but I know I missed more than a dream.
I know someone that has lived there became a doctor there and lives in N.E. U.S. and she misses it and so do I.

One final thought, I just went on an amazing trip to Alaska and saw a woman who was probably in her 80's being pushed in a wheelchair. She carried a sign saying that she completed going to all 50 states and Alaska was her last one. She had the biggest smile on her face...go get yours.

Many cultural settings are taken for granted and the great culture we once had is seen by many as old-fashionable.
