In this video I share with you my experience doing my first ever 3D relief carving. I import the 3D relief into fusion 360, create a pocket clearing and a parallel tool path, and then export the tool path from Fusion 360 to Grbl.
For such a budget machine at standard settings, the results achieved surpassed my expectations. I think there is a lot of promise for this little 3018 CNC router.

that's fantastic, I got the same machine last week as a gift so all I've done is carve or etch, this looks like the next fun thing so I've subscribed and got notifications on. looking forward to the software vids

Great explanations here ... thank you ....... more details on how the different toolpaths were created would be good.

Just watched this video of carving relief's tried fusion but can't get to grips with the manufacturing side of it , use it all the time for designing and drawing things up to 3D print. But for carving on my 3018 woodpecker cnc I use Vetric aspire it's great for all your carvings you might want to try it.

Excellent explanation. Looks like one of these little $200 machines is a great way to dip your toe into CNC. The new ones don't make the Z extension very easy, however, since they've moved away from the extrusion construction for the gantry.

Wow! I've been working with the free version of Easel as well as Carbide Create. I need to learn 360 it seems. I have been intimidated by the learning curve, but you make it look not as hard as I thought it would be.

Hi rely good explanation, on how you did this carving, could you please do a vid on how you adapted feeds and speed for the 300w/500w spindle, just I'm finding it the biggest grey area, that know one has explained. Thank you for all you help couple of you films have been a god send thank you( what is you name )

Plz give the details about the drill bits used for carving. As I’m new to cnc ,it might be helpful for my projects.

Hi, I use Vectric Cut 3D and V Carve and export G Codes to Mach 3 to a Taig CNC Mill. I'm looking at a 3018CNC and was quite impressed by your 3D Carving on this machine.

Oh man how long did it take you? I have the base 3018 and man it takes forever. Even simple designs can take 2-3 hours. I've been wondering if it's worth upgrading or just start saving for a better mill. Also I find that the second half gets more rough because the clamps start to loosen so I drilled a board to the base and just screw things to it instead of using the clamps they provide.

Could you please explain how you downloaded file from turbo squid and then uploaded it to fusion360? I am having problems so would appreciate it. Just learning fusion360 so the more steps you can explain the better I can follow.

Sorry but i have contradict. 2D and 3D Adaptive are the much more gentle strategy to clear as much material as possible. I only use them on my default 3018 pro.

instead of the cheapo bits they come with try a Yonico 6.5 degree downcut ball mill. its about 25 bucks but the finish will be much better. I am one year into my experimenting with a 3018 and with the limitations of the machines structure the best improvement you can do is buy real bits. if you buy a 10 pack for $10 you threw away $10 the finish will suck and you probably went through 2 of the crappy bits to get it close to good. wood needs a downcut or compression bit to get clean edges. with these machines you will never get proper chip load so always buy bits with 1 or at maximum 2 flutes. chipload is important if you are producing saw dust you are overheating and dulling the bit. larger chips take the heat away from the bit. best way to tell what your machine can do is setup a piece of preffered material to work with and run a test pattern of straight lines. change the feeds and speeds on each run. its weird but youll find out with a good bit when you speed up the feed rates quite a bit it gets to a place where it cuts like butter then will get back to chatter. this is particularly noticeable in acrylic. too slow you melt plastic to the bit too fast you snap the bit but in between there and theres a fast beautiful cut with a mirror edge that needs little to no cleanup. I have tried many different bits and prefer Yonico and Amana. Amana bits are the cream of the crop and just about the most expensive out there but well worth the money. I also like to use 1/4 inch shank bits that taper to the work size where a 1/32 " bit will be fragile a 1/4" shank that tapers to 1/32 for a half inch is alot stronger.

How long did the carve take, especially the finish pass?

Hi, I'm Asher. Uh. I got that CNC now. I got it after watching your videos, but now I have a great dilemma. I cannot figure out the computer side of things. I'm a teenager deeply interested in this stuff. I would much appreciate it if you make a video about the CAM side of Fusion 360. as a note I do have some experience in the design workspace of Fusion. Or Maybe you can just direct me to a good video about CAM, but I couldn't find one. Also I cannot see how you can use a v carve bit with a parallel cut in Fusion.
