    The info on this video is definitely what's been on my mind, Tony! Thank you for pulling this together and providing us with this perspective to begin refining choices. I appreciate your commentary on traffic, higher costs, pros and cons, etc. You got me curious about Hang Dong, Doi Saket and Mae Rim. Do you have an episode on the pros and cons of condo living vs. living in a home? I have some general impressions, but it seems to be a distinction you're making in this video. Curious about your other thoughts if worth clarifying.

      I have never lived in a condo, so it’s hard for me to make a comparison. Thank you for watching! 😊👍

    I'm a senior also and planning on staying in Chiang Mai for a month sometime next year. I have been watching your videos and they have been very helpful to me. But I guess I would have to stay in the tourist area to be near everything because I will not be driving. Keep up the good work with your videos.

    I stayed in Chiang Mai for 3 weeks last month. I stayed in Nimmanhaenin(and it was nice), west side of old DT and east side of old DT. Personally I liked the east side of DT better. It just felt like there were closer restaurants, closer to the night bazaar. Keep in mind on the map it looks like Nimmanhaenin is close to the Old DT, but you are looking at 1-2 km walking each way.

      For a one-month visit, and with no car, you'll need to stay in the downtown area.

    I think that Santitham is an area that is well worth discussing. It has been exploding in popularity in the last few years. It is just north and northwest of the old city and is very convenient to the old city, Nimman area and the ring road. It has a mix of classic Thai and more international restaurants and cafes as well as a growing nightlife. I believe that it is also very good value for money.

      I stayed at a guesthouse in Santitham before moving to my condo. I liked it a lot.

    If you have the means I recommend getting a used car and motorbike and living just outsie the main city center. You'll have the flexibility to experience both the quiet and busy side whenever you want. Living in the city center is a big commitment unless youre single and don't need a car.

      What's the driving like in Thailand? I've heard in the Philippines driving is a bit dangerous because of aggressive drivers.

    • @stevenmylot
      @stevenmylot 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@skidatsme3285 Interesting to say the least. You definitely have to be aware of all surroundings. Sometimes you have scooters driving the opposite way in the wrong lane because they don't want to flip a U-turn. Very dangerous if you're slow to react. I don'lt like driving at night because some older locals don't have headlights. This country has one of the highest traffic accident rates in the world if I'm not mistaken. Just be mindful because things can change in a split second. Always be on the defense.

    Hi Tony , your video was so informative! Thanks for your video. It was very helpful! We are a couple with a 3yr old considering moving to Chiang Mai. My biggest concern is the heat and ability to spend time outdoors. Is Mae rim cooler than in the city of Chiang Mai given its more in nature. Are there children’s park etc?

    • @TheNarrowGate
      @TheNarrowGate  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is not cooler there and you are somewhat isolated. People I know who have moved there ended up moving back towards the city to be near things they have to do every day such as grocery stores, restaurants, etc. The most family friendly area is Hang Dong.

      @@TheNarrowGate are there children’s park and greenery in Hangdong? Is it common for kids to be playing together outside?

    How bad is the smokey season for someone who has one or two allergy coughs per year and for a couple who will be having a baby born during those months? Is it best to avoid?

    • @TheNarrowGate
      @TheNarrowGate  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you want to spend any amount of time outside, I would avoid.
