"Tenting", Jon? I know you mean camping. I think you already have the subject for your Saturday video. I think "Camping in Thailand" sounds very interesting on seeing what camping, or tenting, in Thailand is like; what you need; and what it consists of. That sounds awesome! It's great to see Chiang Mai so lively and people enjoying it. I look forward to my next trip to Chiang Mai.
It’s like someone turned the tourist tap on at the start of this week, last week reasonably relaxed…… this week completely full,it was jammed down by the Ping last night, great for local businesses after the hardship that the floods have brought them.😊
It's crazy here. I don't go to the main drag unless I have to. I go to all the Thai markets and places to eat. The prices are still the same. But it wasn't this bad last year.
I have been stuck between CM and Hua Hin as a place to retire. I think between the floods, burn season, and the influx of tourists, I've decided Hua Hin is more my speed.
@@ramsoncole4605 I would say that HH has absolutely the best climate in Thailand, I believe it's the driest part of Thailand. The main issue is the distance to an international airport
It honestly looks amazing. All I'm looking for is a place where I can focus on my health and learn Muay Thai. But being from the EU I wonder how long I can stay there
As an expat this is our home. Thais just see farangs as all the same....money. We go to the Chiang Mai market most nights to buy food, up until the tourists arrive it's mostly Thais. What is annoying is it's your normal day yet suddenly it's full of tourists and you're at cross purposes, they're pushing in to get the photo and all you want is to get your food and eat. Why they all need to carry that pack on their backs that wipes you out as they pass you I don't know. I've also notice the difference today from when I travelled 30 years ago, we didn't have the internet, there were less tourists and we travelled for the experience and time was important you needed lots of it...and you met up with like minded people. Today I notice the same generation seems to travel for the instagram photos and are following their phones.
Could not agree more. Who walks around with a backpack in +30°, bumping & stopping the flow for their own self importance. Can't walk five paces without checking their phone. Generation of morons😱
As a Brit living in Chiang Rai 2 main reasons I would not live in Chiang Mai , 1 very busy traffic , 2 very bad air pollution 4 months of the year , only have the second problem in Chiang Rai which I move away to avoid
Thank you for your interesting videos! Btw do Thai girls in Chiang Mai form relationships with foreigners, especially Europeans, in the same way as in Bangkok, where they tend to be very friendly? Or is there a cultural difference in their approach?
@@jondcanton Thats too bad, I loved the bike you have, so just wanted to know what was the make and model and see if I could do some research on the cost to buy such a bike. Thx anyway.
Aussie here. Moved permanently to Chiang Mai 6 yrs ago. Been bloody fantastic. BUT, CHIANG MAI 2024 has turned into BEIJING. Chinese EVERYWHERE. In the past 6 yrs I have NEVER seen CM as BUSY as it is now. Loi Krathong last weekend was OVER THE TOP with TOURISTS….. the traffic was like Bangkok. Normally it gets busy a week or two before Xmas/New Year but it’s 3rd week in November and it is MAXED OUT with tourists already. An ex-pat consensus is that we have seen the best of CM and it ain’t coming back. The Chinese are buying up all the Condo buildings, commercial buildings and warehouses and pushing sale and rent prices SKY HIGH, double to triple what they have always been and only selling/renting to fellow Chinese. Yep, CM has had the prawn. And you gotta ask, what’s it going to be like in 5-10 yrs time. The increased population and traffic is way OVER THE TOP NOW. Chiang Mai is DONE!!!! And observing the foreign tourists, media posers, COVERED IN TATTOOS, OBESE, with self indulgent arrogant attitudes, all a far cry from the gentility of the Thai family culture. It’s why we escaped the west years ago, and it’s now permeating CM…. turning it into ANOTHER HIPSTER TIKTOK LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME CLONE CITY OF WESTERN DEGRADATION……. Many original expats, including moi, are MOVING OUT. It’s ALREADY DONE… so yeah, in another 5 yrs it will be just another BANGKOK coffee shop tattoo shop CLONE. We LOVE (D) CM, but who wants what it is turning into?? The laid back quiet traditional Thai charm is RAPIDLY BEING DILUTED. We are thinking Siem Reap in Cambodia or Rishikesh in India ….. anywhere that’s far far away from this Chinese TIKTOK INSTAGRAM WESTERN PERVASION invasion…….
The prices should stay the same, its completely out of order all fuelled by greed. Ive stayed out the city for the last week dont want to have to deal with it. Its funny the government were saying we dont rely on tourism to support the economy a few years back.. Look at it now..
Actually to me that area around the gate and old city looks no more crowded than any other day for the last 6 months... I was expecting more for the " Tourist Season" Even tonight's Sunday Market there was not more crowded than any other Sunday. Maybe the tourists are still on the way or maybe they are all out of town on tours? Even the day we meet there at the gate it was no busier. Cheers mate.
Ah really I found it so busy today compared to a few weeks ago, could be Loi Krathong as well. The traffic around the city seems busier as well to me :)
@@jondcanton traffic was busier starting Thursday night and it seemed to have dropped off on Sunday. :( I don't like overcrowded chaing mai... bangkok was nice with high buildings, but chiang mai has just low buildings other than few condos. The part I enjoyed in cnx was ironically area far from the center of the city. Finally slow, chilling vibe with nice people................. the center is overcrowded, overpriced with unhappy and rude local workers

Haha yeah will be good fun up in Omkoi, about 3 hours from Chiang Mai city but still in Chiang Mai province.
I've seen if far busy than that when I lived there is 2015-2017.
Have never been to CM but am coming for 2/3 days in January from Bangkok. Cannot wait to visit.
Nice! Can’t beat Chaing Mai :)
Everywhere in Asia is packed with tourists now. From Tokyo to Chiang Mai to Bali.
555 My goodness trying to see a Thai person pretty much in this whole video is a rare occasion. That in a nutshell is Chiang Mai 😉
What is the price now with grab from nimman to old city three kings for example?
Not sure on that price I’d guess over 100
thanks, not that bad for me :)

Yeah I found last year things were not as hectic :)
The majority of tourists hang out in the same areas. I find they're easily avoided, even in the old city.
After watching your videos, I think HuaHin looks better. Maybe the sea that does it?
