I have corrected the out-of-phase colour, tweaked the video quality a little and fixed the aspect ratio. Really just as an experiment to see if I could!

Used to see this tape on a regular basis promoting the Oscars, then stopped seeing it for years and years. Glad to see it resurface again, because for a long time I thought Liza WAS the Oscars, if you know what I mean: clad in black (with the long pink scarf), the male chorus, the giggles, the buoyancy, and especially the kneel downstage to little Oscar and the high kick at the end. ("That's the one!!") Perfect Minnelli performance.

Liza always managed to convey she was where she should be ... up there having a great time entertaining her audiences... and she did !
Liza winning for Cabaret was the right choice. Cabaret was something else, and even though all of the nominated ladies were great in their respective roles, Liza was just beyond great.

I am always on the fence with her win. As great as she is in Caberet, She is even better in THE STERILE CUCKOO!!! And Diana Ross was fabulous as well in Lady Sings the Blues.
@@MikeysGayToday me too. I also remember and thinking that she absolutely should and would win for "sterile cuckoo". (If only for that heartbreaking long telephone conversation when she was begging and crying to wendell Burton. As great as she was in 'cabaret", I believe her oscar was perhaps a consolation prize to her loss in "cuckoo".🤔 In my meek and humble opinion, Diana Ross gave an absolute electrifying performance in "lady sings the blues". She should have won the Oscar.

My, how many performances does she have that I haven't seen? Shit.
When I was in my 20s I adored Liza and thought she was the greatest star at the time and she was pretty much and like her mother extremely talented! Now in retrospect I'm in my late 60s and think she was a tad over the top and a bit of a show off but is still light years ahead of what passes for talent in Hollywood today. Still like the Fondas she is Hollywood Royalty! Also this clip got the year incorrect: it was 1970 not 1971 that she lost to the brilliant Maggie Smith!
