    One thing I've been trying recently is blending a Boss FZ-2 sound (also octave fuzz, think the Behringer SF-300) with my djenty modern guitars to thicken up choruses. If you really want it to sound horrible, you can also blend a little bit of pitch shifter before your gain. Adding a perfect fifth for thickness or a minor second for dissonance can be super cool on the right riff.

    • @michaelkeene5950
      @michaelkeene5950 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By the time Heartwork rolled around, they’d moved away from the grind sound. Heartwork is just a fantastic death metal classic record. The “grind” sound is often attributed to the Boss HM2 pedal. Sometimes direct even. Just guitar into HM2, into DI and to tape or interface. Early Bloodbath really nailed that fuzzing, harsh “grind” guitar tone and I think they used an HM2 direct to the board on at least Resurrection Through Carnage. Either way, the HM2 is considered a essential part of the Swedish Grind sound pioneered by bands like Entombed.

    Almost all my amplitube presets I use life follow a similar principle. Combining two guitar sounds that are too similar end up sounding thin and boring to me. Plus the beauty of VST amps is that you can get both that dimed raunchy sound and combine that with an all-preamp gain tight sound and then mix to suit. Or for cleans let your blackface be your ice pick you throw right down the middle with some optional double digital delay to be the edge, but then add a warm AC30 mic'ed way off the center and feed that into your reverbs for the vibe you can mix in when playing strummed half/whole notes. The options are limitless in a digital world.

    What are those drum samples? They sound great. Particularly the cymbals. The whole kit sounds great, but the cymbals in so many drum libraries just suck. Especially the rides and hi hats. Those hats have so much chunk and the ride has so much thick attack. I’ve sampled my own cymbals in Battery and usually end up using them when I’m demoing something or the rare occasion I’m using programmed drums on something beyond a demo. I have a Zildjian Earth Ride that I sampled and use on almost everything with programmed drums in death metal. I’ve felt it’s the best ride for death metal for years and years and it turns out Andy Sneap uses an Earth ride in many of his productions and is a big fan of it as well. I sampled a couple K custom crashes, some Sabian Vault and HHX crashes, a Sabian paragon splash and Sabian AAFusion 13” hats as well as Paiste signature 14” hats, a 22” Meinl Soundcaster ride that sounds fantastic on death metal, but is much more versatile and a few different chinas. All sampled in 5 velocity zones with 7 round robins. Ride bell and regular ride and I think I did 4 ranges of hihat from tightly closed to fully open. It was a big project. It took me a couple days, but I needed something better than all the dozens and dozens of libraries I have that all seem to be lacking in the cymbals. I have 2 of my kits sampled in their entirety in Battery. At some point I’m going to make a Kontakt library with all the samples and if someone that knows how to make .TCI’s can show me the way, maybe do that as well.
    Anyway, I digress. Care to share what those drum samples are?

      @@KohleAudioKultah okay. Made of Metal or Metal Machine? I have all the toontrack libraries minus the few I’d never use. So I have all the metal ones. I just think the Andy Sneap ones are the best. He actually uses an Earth ride in those libraries, though every Earth ride sounds very different and I got one with some extra magic. I think it’s the best sounding Toontrack ride, but I still prefer mine. I don’t know what they’re doing that makes all their rides come out sounding so thin and distant. It’s a mystery. They all sound like a vintage jazz ride or something. My Earth ride has to be like 4 mm thick. It’s crazy how much attack it has. Not right for everything, but awesome for death metal.

    Is this the grindstein song that Euge Valovirta wrote?

      @KohleAudioKult  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. I did the song when we presented the pedal back then. Search for „Grindstein playthrough“ here on YT

    Hi Kohle, great stuff, as alllllways! Love your vids. One question: every guitar track (of those 4) was a different performance? Cheers and see you in hell m....r 😉

    • @KohleAudioKult
      @KohleAudioKult  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Different performance each time.
      Those tracks are a part of a guitar tone course inside the academy btw 🙀.

    i thought it sounded sick before the blend...

      It does of course. But I was looking for something a little more disgusting than your every day modern metal tone.
      Total matter of taste in the end!

    I wish, I could find a TH-cam channel, that is not trying to sell you stuff. That is sad somehow. But that is our time...

      The fun part is that I’m not making money with this video.
      It’s hilarious how some people complain instead of focusing on all the useful free information they get in a video like this.
      I would have killed for this when I started out. Watching a professional producer dial in some sick tones right in front of my eyes? 🤔🤘😱

      @@KohleAudioKult YES :)
      Like one cheap (but decent sounding) chinese pedal a la Mooer preamp meets Mooer Radar meets EHX Magnum that you could plug straight into a cab and/or just go direct to FOH with.
      NB : not saying something like this SHOULD exist but i would not be surprised if it did considering how cheap and advanced guitar gear got in the recent years.
