This is a really fun video. So jealous that you got to try so many fun Beyerdynamic mics! I'm growing my amateur studio and currently in the market for my first ribbon and you're selling me on the M160. Interesting that some of the mics by there own might be "undesirable", but blending them sounds fire. Given you were wearing a Fryette t-shirt, I thought I would ask this question. What's your opinion on using their powerstation (either 50W or 100W) for making IRs? Have you ever used a tube power amp for your IRs or is there a reason for the solid state Seymour Duncan?
Beyerdynamic: Would you like to do something with this old, classy mic collection that is both historic and irreplaceable Kristian Kohle: *hm2 sounds intensifies*
I am an old man who has worked as an FOH engineer in the late seventies and esrly eighties. There are quite a few of these mics I used back then, although Beyerdynamic‘s reputation was not really high in R&R at that time. I used them mostly because they were just there in the case since they were cheaper than Shures. EVs, Sennheisers and even most AKGs. But I came to like them a lot. Happy to see that they now receive the recognition they deserve.
Dude, having the ability to get tones like this in my bedroom thanks to you and Brogen capturing gear that I would never have access to, is awesome. Also, a lot of companies could see capturing their gear as a threat, but Beyerdynamic fully embraced it. If I ever have the budget for great mics, Beyerdynamic is on the top of my list. Hope other companies take note.
Man, THIS channel should have 3 to 5x the number of subscribers!! I don't get it; this is HOW to record 101! I watched every second of this, and Ive been working for decades, but your enthusiasm is and passion is completely infectious. It reminds me of when I was in my early 20's and would experiment all the time. Whenever a new project came to the studio I would try out something new or different. I learned what a "Dynamount" was too. I do rock, folk and sometimes jazz, but your concepts and techniques work on all genres. Wunderbar, Herr Kohle! 🇩🇪💪🎸🎤🎙️🇺🇸👍 PS: Hats off to the Sweden too! Great studio ergonomics. 🇸🇪
Hi Kristian, just bought the pack and Man, it is killer already. didn't yet explore Jens content but your pack is so satisfying. I have the Granophyre and left it aside for a while. When launching my presets and load those IRS in, wow couldn't stop playing. I also blended historic with newer mics and it is worth it also. Thank you again (already had the chainsaw and rainbow and was killer too) Cheers
Christmass came early this year! This video shows a portion of the hard work behind the scenes for the making of these IRs. Many thanks for introducing the vintage mics to us. Some of us will nevere even see them in real life. Keep up the good work! 😀
I'm only 5 minutes in and I'm already sold! I'm going to have to set aside a serious amount of hours to go through and experience these. What a treat, so much pleasure!
Absolutely amazing! I can't say enough about this but I will say is, I about jumped out of my shoes when you mentioned the Fryette Deliverance Cab with Thanes. Effing WOW! Thank you and I can't wait to pick this one up. Cheers and Chugs 🤘🔥🧡🔥🤘
This is pretty fun. I generally prefer smaller, curated packs, but in this case, I understand it is better to have it all preserved. I'll buy it for sure.
Both Jens and me have only done smaller packs so far. But this one is different. 😎 But just ignore the technical IRs and there’s your curated pack. I’ll do a walk-through video soon that will hopefully show how powerful the technical IRs are. They’re like a tone lab.
Voll geil!
Showing a known reference, like an sm57 in the sweet spot on the cone would help noobs like me how things are sounding. I get so disoriented when sifting through IRs unless I reference something that I known good or typical. I'm excited to shoot out the free IRs with some of mine!
I think the producer IRs of this pack are very much straightforward. Just pick one that you like and it’s gonna work pretty well. The technical IRs are more nerdy. But as long as you have a reference IR this should be quite easy too

Great to hear that. For all of us this is a win/win situation!
When i see your name on an IR pack, I already put it on the cart. The Hand That Bleed, The Face Melt and The Entombed IRs are amazing
Great to hear that! Thanks man! ❤️

M260 sounds really pleasing
This is just ridiculous cool! Would be great if they bring some of these old mics back into their catalogue.
M260 please!
The coolest story of the year 🔥 You don't wan't to miss this AWESOME IR pack!! Awesome video, too. Loved working with you 🧡🖤
Likewise! Thanks again for giving us the tools to do this! 🤘❤️
These must be some of the best sounding tones you had on the channel so far imho.
Really digging the midrange
Thanks! Those ribbons really have a smooth yet direct quality to them. Highly recommended!

I love these old Beyerdynamic mics. Also a huge fan of converting old Uher mics used for reel to reels to xlr.
I wish white/silver-coloured microphones were more common. They just look so damn nice.
Oooooh... I think I know those mics... 😉
Beyerdynamic ribbons are just super musical to my ears!

Awesome man, nice work 🤘🏻
Listening to Jens, that M88 seems like a great stoner rock mic(capture)
Makes sense.
It’s a pretty unique sounding mic. Very often used on toms and kicks. I got a video coming up where you can hear it on a snare.
Oh sweet! This is going to be sick!
Absolutely!
These work great with a Suhr Reactive Load / I.R. coming out of a JCM 900 with a Rat.
38:05 Yeah, mehr IRs für Bass! 😚😃
M-130 & M-160 in M/S is something i always wanted to try (Drum Room OH)

the mighty soundchasers
Yes! Diggin deep!
génial the size of the m24 is so funny, it looks like an akg d19 but the machinist made a mistake in the measurement scale ^^
Would be interested in why you obviously prefer the iR generation method via sweeps rather than impulses?

Test files are so tasty. Freaking good. Is there also 48000Hz versions in the paid version?
Yes!
im curious if you can use these IRs on vocals?
You can. That sends them through a guitar cab. Not great for regular vocals, but nice for extreme distortion effects.
Are the cabinets in Jens studio sort of soffit mounted?
21 perfekt lucky number
what is the music at 7:54?
Shur? 😅
I dont find the free IRs
