I have a 6 month old and god, being a parent is so overwhelming. There’s so much to do and know and teach and everything keeps changing. It stresses me out so much

I completely understand, but every parent feels like this sometimes! It's a GOOD sign, it means you care about doing the best job at raising your baby. Don't be afraid to ask for help or just vent, from your pediatrician, friends or family. Or online for that matter (just make sure to fact check).
But I'm sure you're doing a great job already. Your baby needs love and care most of all, I wouldn't worry too much about teaching at this point. You'll learn and grow together with him/her. Things will keep changing, but you'll become a more and more experienced parent along the way and figure out what works for you and your baby. Listen to your heart and instincts, they often tell you what's the right thing to do.
      You've got this❤

Awww don't let it stress you out, then you can't enjoy it as much and they are only babies for such a short amount of time. ENJOY IT!! I understand though I have a 13 and 10 year old and pandemic baby that is 3 months old so I feel like a first time mom again! And everything is constantly changing. I gave my 13 year old honey when he was a baby, and now you aren't supposed to, I ate deli meat with both my older kids when I was pregnant and now you aren't supposed to lol.... so much is different! But enjoy the ride!! You will do amazing!

Note on the meat - the grain direction matters when cutting into finger-sized pieces, because if the grain goes cross-ways it is easier for the baby to accidentally break off a size that is too big to handle. Length-wise grain limits the amount of meat the baby can chew into their mouths.

Hi Ashely, I am really glad that I came across your videos. I have been spoon-feeding my 6-month-old baby boy (almost 7 months) for a month and decided to change that to baby-led weaning as he tries to take the food and explore them. Also, he kept ending up crying every mealtime. I will give him the finger foods tomorrow and see how he does! Fingers crossed

@@moanachase1277 It is going really great! He loves meal time (if he is not sleepy). He can use fork and drink from cup (now, 11-month). Sometimes I still spoon-feed him because I don't want to make it too messy especially when I give him rice porridge. But for the first 2 months it was all him, which I think made him allow(?) me to spoon-feed him later because he knows eatting is fun! So much more to say, but in short, I would definately recommend to go for it!

This was so helpful! My baby kept gagging and I was so worried I was doing something "wrong" - but also I was laughing too hard to really worry. It was so nice to see the clip of baby getting to explore foods on her own in the end. I feel like I was wanting to spoon feed my baby so she would "get it" and it wasn't working for her or me - that's no fun. A good reminder to let her learn at her own pace. Thank you for posting.

I'm on my 3rd baby but first one to try BLW and I am nervous too. I actually think we have been taught by society to be nervous. For decades we have literally been "sold" goods that make us think purees are the "natural" way but as was so nicely stated in the video, BLW is the more natural way. We have just grown up in a society that has been marketed to otherwise. I am learning to trust my gut and my baby as I navigate this new adventure and fight my own anxiety.

Love the reco for realistic utensils and [safe] glassware. They're definitely a higher degree of difficulty from a motor skills standpoint versus silicone molded ergonomic offerings but it's amazing how babies self-teach and adapt.

In my opinion giving your baby the bulky plastic baby forks or sporks kind of sets them up for failure because it is hard for me to poke through their food with those more blunt ends of a fork and I would watch my first two struggle and then give up and decide it was easier to use their hands. When I found your channel I binge watched and decided to try to give my at the time 18 month old our smaller forks just like my four year old and she had so much more success with it and actually was using the fork instead of her hands.

If there is a family history of food allergy, then it's especially important to introduce these foods early. There is strong evidence showing that early food introduction can actually reduce the likelihood of food allergy later on in life.

The clips of Mia are ridiculously adorable. We did pretty close to BLW weaning with my first (learning about it a month or two after starting purées). My second was such a bad gagger that he was constantly projectile vomiting and we abandoned ship with him. He would get sick mouthing toys semi-frequently and is just finishing up feeding therapy right around his third birthday because the gagging/vomiting persisted as a problem well past the age of two.

You also can't give the baby acidic foods like tomato and pineapple early on. No shellfish or large, blue fish until age 2 due to mercury. My son has always loved fish over any other meat. It was the first meat I introduced. It has been great for me because it Cooks super fast, is flavorful with little work, and is super soft for babies to eat easily. My son is crazy for Alaskan cod. He also loves spicy food, and I started with a very little spiciness and gradually introduced more as I saw he liked it.

Thank you so much for your videos. I has been trying unsuccessfully for 3 months to start my son on purees but he gagged excessively and usually downright refused to accept anything. At 5 months he had seemed very interested in food so we were surprised he wasn't taking to it. He is also my 3rd child and my other had progressed easily from purees. We tried sensory therapies to try and work on the gag reflex and get him used to the feel of different textures, but it did little to help his eating. Fast forward to a week ago when I watched some of your videos - seeing your baby doing very well with her first solids and also seeing how you prepare foods gave me a lot of confidence to try with my son. Already he has progressed so much and is loving food again! I guess he just wanted to feed himself and now I have the confinance to let him. His gagging has improved immensely also and he will just go back to eating once the problem food has been cleared.

Thank you for doing such a comprehensive video again. A lot of parents I know don't get that babies need time to explore with the food and don't depend on it for their nutrients yet. They want to have their baby eating without breast milk or formula too soon. But if one can let that go, BLW must be such fun.The video's in the end are so cute!
Also a very good idea to introduce the same food a couple of times before introducing another. This will make sure your child will eat different foods a lot better later on. I heard this from a child nutrition expert aswell. The baby is learning colour, shape, texture and taste and it takes a while for them to recognise what food is what.

We absolutely love baby LED weaning but I'm asking you to please edit this video or take it down, we did lots of research in this video was the first thing that came up, we left the avocado peel on like she suggested, andended up going to the hospital a tiny bit of Peel got stuck really far deep down in her throat, it was really scary they couldn't figure out what was going on for weeks and finally went in for surgery and found that peel!! PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!

So glad you're little one is okay. Me too I was concerned as to why she left the peeling on, it's very misleading for ones who haven't done their research!!!

Thank you for your video 🙏🏽 Traditional purées weren’t working for my bub and your video summarised the process and made me feel confident to begin baby lead weaning, and he loves it so far. Mealtimes are no longer stressing me, he and I now enjoy them! Thank you for all the meal tips too! x

I started with purees but it's whatever she fed herself. She started at 4 months ish. (She holds the spoon herself) I am not going this route so excited thank you!

I will definitely will give this a try in my next one.. because my 3 yr old is still struggling to eat solid solid foods..he won't tell you when he feels hungry and will never ask for food but when he does he will eat very little...

As the Tia (grand grand Aunt) to a 5 month old your videos are very informative and helpful. I loved the one about Montessori rattles and such for a baby. I can afford to buy a few things now and then for my Charlotte and I will be getting her some. I know she will love them. I never had children so your videos are so wonderful. I had no idea a baby could drink from a glass. That's on my shopping list. This is Mom's third child but I wasn't around with the other two. I love my nieces and nephews. Want to be a better Tia for them.

From what I’ve seen baby led weaning does get pretty messy and I’m ok with it but I’m just wondering how do you transition them into eventually eating neatly and not making a mess? Thanks for your videos, they’re awesome and super helpful!

Thank you for this video. I'm kicking myself for not looking into what BLW was sooner. I have a now 9 month old and I'm trying to get him to eat finger foods. The gagging/vomiting terrifies me and I'm so scared about choking. Seeing your examples helped me! I'm gonna be trying more food options and just letting him explore rather than stressing that he's not eating the food.

Lol so true! Like immediately starting babies on solid food sounds scary cz puree's/baby cereal are out there since ages. BLW sounds so new & untraditional, although it is easier for the long term. So happy i came across your channel, now i am so motivated to start BLW with my son. 😘😘

Thank you for this video. My husband and I just had our second baby, a son. Our first, a daughter we used purees. I was too scared to do BLW but now, I want to try it. My son just turned 6 months on the 21st so I want to try introducing foods. This answered all the questions I had. Very helpful! Thank you.

Thank you soooooo much for this video! You’re an amazing teacher. I was nervous starting this journey with my second (because my first is a horrible eater) and I feel so much more confident going into BLW now. I hope she’ll rub off on her sister. Thank you again.

This was very helpful. My twins are only three months but I’m really leaning towards Baby led weaning with them when the time comes. I did purées with my first two children because of my irrational fears of choking. Thank you for sharing!

I’ve never used jarred baby food I always gave my boys foods that I ate to try and they were both breastfed for over a year each . They are 5 and 2 now and I have another on the way . Planning to do the same with baby number three too ! I’m all for spending as little as possible 🤷‍♀️

Good job, Mama! I let my 6 children lead their weaning. They weaned away from breastfeeding anywhere from 1 year to 3 years. I also didn’t buy baby food, but rather just put cut up food on their high chair tray after they had “cut” a couple of teeth. I figured that was nature’s cue that they were ready to chew.
