    how about using sonos system with youtube video or netflix from your pc o mac??

      Right? Why can't the PC Sonos App route all PC Sound out to it's speakers?? I paid $500 for fancy speakers that can only play sound from montly subscription platforms? This is stupid, I want one set of sychronized Home speakers all around the house, playing any of my sources... Smart TV, PC, and Cell phone Playlists and apps. Why is this not possible?

      You could use a Sonos Port or amp for what you are describing (piping your computer audio into the sonos system to be played on multiple speakers) or the newer Era speakers which have a line-in option. Sonos are not intended as computer speakers. They are a distributed home audio system. They have historically been pretty restrictive about how you can provide your own audio sources like bluetooth and a line-in connection, but thankfully they are getting more flexible on those fronts with their more recent products. The era 100 and 300 speakers have a usb-c based line in you could use, and you may also be able to use bluetooth as a sound source (not certain if that can be used just for whichever speaker is connected or the entire system).
      Additionally, newer Sonos speakers (starting with the new AMP and ARC devices) have airplay. If you use Mac computers or iphones you can play to the Sonos system via Airplay (video on how to do this via an iphone here: th-cam.com/video/ORODk_iIlr4/w-d-xo.html)
      The app is there for you to control your speakers with whatever sound sources you have made available to them; unfortunately the computer app can't be used to source your computer audio.

    Thanks for the video. It never occured to me Sonos would have a Windows app. I've been using my iPhone for everything. No more looking for the iPhone, being low on power, fat fingering the selections, or needed my glasses to read the small screen sometimes.

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad this helped! The computer app is definitely the less favored mode of managing the speakers (Sonos definitely prioritizes the mobile experience), but it works and can often be easier for letting a few different people manage / control the system. It is also easier for editing playlist order and things like that with a mouse versus a touchscreen.

      Had no idea there was a desktop app. Does it sync with mobile? ie if I set up a playlist or favourite on desktop, would it be the same the next time I open the mobile app? Thank you.

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justingifford2726 Yes, it is fully a part of the Sonos experience (though it is limited functionality wise compared to the phone app). If you make a playlist, it will fully carry over to the mobile application!

    Will this speaker work as a regular speaker for laptop audio? Or does it only do music?

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Generally, no. You could use a Sonos era speaker and use a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter to connect the speaker to your computer, but you have a lot of better options. Sonos is really intended to be stand alone music speakers, or paired with a tv (arc, beam, ray, etc.). For computer speakers look for a good pair of powered bookshelf speakers the audio engine 2+s or the Klipsch gives if you have the space (what I use). You could pair them with a Sonos port to have them be a part of the Sonos system, but that is a very high cost solution there. If you really want to have them be used with your computer, a pair of era 100s with the usb-c to line-in adapter might be your best bet.

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you could use the Roam as a bluetooth speaker for your PC, but this seems a strange use case. There are better options for just being a PC speaker. Is your streaming setup mobile? I could see that working. Is there a reason you would need the mobile aspect to this?

    • @texashula2213
      @texashula2213 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@space-cadets actually yes. I am a live stream content creator. My main live stream is setup in the wood shop for live woodworking streams. Occasionally I will add a cooking live stream on my back patio. I have cams set up wirelessly that sends video and audio to OBS on my shop’s PC to broadcast. My issue is trying to monitor the audio of the live stream (sound alerts, funny sounds, etc) without a 30 second delay. Basically… I need to hear what’s on my shop PC while not in my shop. If that makes sense.

    Hi Great video thank you very much. My music library on my iMac is connected - i think - to my Sonos system but it says 'Not available' for all artists playlists etc....I can play Spotify on my Sonos and I can play my music on my iMac but not on the Sonos....any thoughts how to rectify this? thank you very much

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh, you should be able to access it. To confirm your music library is properly connected, open the Sonos app on your Mac. In the Mac Menu bar, select Manage > Music Library Settings and ensure your music folder is properly shown in the "My Music folders on Sonos" area of the pop up. Additionally, go the the Advanced tab and ensure the "Library Updates" check box is checked so you keep it up to date. Hope that helps address your issue!

      Looking through the app it doesn't appear you can add speakers to your system in the computer application (pretty certain that was an option in the past). You would need to use your phone or tablet to add speakers to your system.

      I don't believe the Move can be paired to two devices concurrently. If you have the move setup via Wifi, then you can change the sound source between audio you select on your computer or audio you select on your phone.

    Hi; thanks for the video. So once it’s connect on the app do you have to only use the app or will that mac just be connected? For example if I go on TH-cam will it play through the Sonos speaker or does it all have to be through the app? Thanks

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only what is selected and played through the app will come out of the sonos speaker. It is otherwise disconnected from your regular computer audio.
      If you wanted youtube audio to play over your sonos speakers, you could use Airplay as a way to achieve this on an Apple device.

    How do you select certain speakers to play? Say I only want my Arc and Sub to play music, and not the whole surround system?

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once you have grouped the speakers for a surround setup, you can't directly control the individual speakers anymore. The system sees the entire surround system as a single speaker at that point.
      That said, you can modify how it treats the setup for music playback. If you go into Settings > System > Select Your Surround Setup > Surround Audio. From there, You can raise or lower the surround playback (i.e. the rear speakers) so they do or do not play when you play music. You can also change the music playback to either Ambient or Full. This is the best can do when it is all setup as a surround group.
      Hope this helps!

    How can I add Apple Music? I have a mac computer and an iPhone?

    • @space-cadets
      @space-cadets  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do it on either the phone or on the Mac app, but it is likely easier on the phone. Open the phone app, and in hte bottom left you can see a Gear icon for settings. Tap that, and then select the Services & Voice menu. Scroll down, then hit the + button for 'Add a Service'. You should be able to then select apple music (if you don't see apple music, hit the search icon in the upper right and type in Apple Music). Put in your Apple Music / Apple ID credentials and you should be all set!

    • @space-cadets

      Yes. I have a Sonos playbar (effectively the prior iteration of the arc), and you can dictate what music to play on the playbar or arc via the computer app. You can also select the TV audio as the source via the computer app to listen to the TV audio, or group other speakers with the Arc to play the TV audio in multiple locations (like, say, for listening to the super bowl while in the in another room).

That said, I haven't found something that works better, and their support for their old hardware is pretty impressive. Not perfect, but having "smart" electronics gear that still runs almost 20 years after release is pretty amazing.
