V8 is never a step backwards. It is not just the performance. It is the combination of everything with performance and the AMG V8 sound. Never backwards. Love V8.
Not only that, but the V-8 will out last the battery system in that electric car, and won’t just burst into flames for no reason (never to be put out). When the battery eventually wears out you basically buy a new car when you have to replace it. Why do you think there are hardly any used electric cars in the market. Nobody wants a car with a short life shelf of a used battery system. If you talk to a dealer, they can ‘t give them away. they go to a scrap yard and then you have to deal with the environmental mess that is disposing of the hazardous batteries. Nobody talks about that because they belive fossil fuels are evil. Guess what, most of any car you buy is made of petroleum products (plastics, fiberglass, tires, grease for the bearings in the motors, the coatings for the wires used in the electrical system. If you think a V-8 is a step backward, a true step backward would be to walk away from fossil fuels because we will all be back in covered wagons with wooden wheels.
In my state, you have to have a front plate if you have the hardware mounted for it but if not, they will allow you not to have it. However, the DMV will charge you an extra $100 for the privilege of not having a front plate. 👎 But for cars like this, it’s probably worth it.
Love the power train and the styling. Can’t say I’m in love w the center screen. For that much $ I’d like to see it integrated w the dash. What a car tho!!
The giant center screen stuck there like an iPad, and the elimination of buttons and switches, is one of the poorest design choices of modern vehicle manufacturers. I swore to never buy a car with that BS, but I may not have a choice in the future. I hate it when they cram bad ideas down our throats. Piano black plastic is another one.
Wow, what a way to start my morning ( Thursday morning Australia) coffee and a beautiful Mercedes V8, I’m not usually into matt colours or convertibles but that’s all out the window with this car. I need to win the lottery. Thank you for your continued fabulous content.
The end, scissors win. Tchu tchu tchu tchu tchu, this is gonna be fun 😅I enjoyed this review so much and it shows that you did enjoy very much producing it! So much positive vibes! Thanks for making us part of it.
This is pure madness with those big TV screens in cars . Just horrible that people don't see that . Don't we have enough of this with the screens in our phones , tablets , laptops , computer desks , smart watches , Oh and of course huge 100 inch screen TV .
I have been eagerly waiting for the drop of this video and it was worth the wait. Wow, I need a cigarette after watching and hearing the roar of that V8. Such a beautiful machine and would like to say maybe one day, but I doubt I will get to own it unless I win the lotto. Thanks for the chance to live vicariously through you both.
Absolutely lived vicariously thru you on this one! Thanks for another excellent review. Would 've loved to have seen an attempt at fitting a bag of golf clubs...if I can't show it off rolling up to the course, what's the point - LOL!
Stunning vehicle! I love the digital gauge cluster integration here. But it looks like the dashboard was designed without the infotainment screen in mind. The latter seems like an afterthought, as it almost covers the air vents and the start/stop button. Overall, though, this thing is a beauty! I am not a fan of their electric vehicle designs, but their ICE and hybrid vehicles are stunning!
All three convertibles I have owned, I have always purchased the windscreen going behind front seats, this cuts wind through cockpit by 80-90% AND made my wife with her long hair very happy. I'm surprised a car of this caliber/ price doesn't have this built in?
Great review you two! Lovely car. Almost tempts me out of my Jaguar F type. Almost. But I can never wipe the smile off my face when driving the F type. Still a wonderful AMG, and will be a sad day when all that is available are electrics.
If I remember correctly, all "2-seat" Mercedes SL, except for the original 1957-1963 300SL convertible, had room for an optional transverse or forward facing rear seat. There was an optional transverse rear seat for the 1956 190SL that I drove as a teenager and a similar transverse rear seat available for the succeeding 230/250/280SL. The rear seat's backrest was behind the front passenger seat and a floor panel behind the driver seat could be removed to create a shallow footwell. I had hoped that I would like the new AMG SL enough to buy one for my "second childhood" but having only a soft top simply will not do Removeable hardtops were options for all SL that had non-retractable hardtops. The removable hardtop for my 190SL turned it to a pretty cozy winter car and it was great fun to drive the car in snow.
Been waiting on this one! I've had the car for 4 months now, and that exhaust note definitely hasn't gotten old! Also, using Racebox, I got a 0-60 of 3.02 seconds so definitely underrated performance figures from Merc.
I spent more than what I can justify on a 911 turbo s cab bcs I know I can recoup most of it (or more than what I paid for since I bought used) if I really need to, but I cannot afford this car that slashes 40k off new and still cannot sell.
Stunning! I’m a huge SL fan. In fact, I almost traded my Carrera for an SL55 AMG + a few grand. It was a motorcar that I drove back and forth from Ottawa (Aylmer QC) to Toronto about a half a dozen times. I’ve always loved Grand Tourers, but they (SLs) regularly require a little more maintenance expenses $$$ that I simply cannot afford (that folding top, those expensive auto drying brakes, tyres (rears), AMG/MB parts prices, mileage etc.). For example, top on my 911 is two handles and I flip It over my head… 5-10 seconds?… the SL has so many motors and crazy wiring everywhere, very limited luggage space and, albeit breathtaking to watch… the top takes (an exaggerated)… forever to put up/down. I love this GT car and if I had a ton of money… maybe. But the SL over the BMW M850i?… I’m not so sure. Thanks for the video.
What a car! Thanks for reviewing it. I must admit I absolutely detest these large screens. They almost always look like last minute add-ons. Why can’t they look as though they were designed to be there? The entire idea tells me that they got the idea of someone wanting to slot an iPad in or onto the dash. Trashes the rest of the overall design.
This is my other FAV AMG Mercedes besides the GLE53 and GLE63 (NON coupes). I also like how Andrea looks like Italian American chef Giada De Laurentiis here.
Great review. I submit that this particular screen implementation cheapens the interior look because it doesn’t blend in well and, instead, looks tacked on as an afterthought. Maybe it’s like exteriors, you just can’t judge the looks until you see it in person. P.S. Do you lose the front license plate and budget for tickets?
Yeah, money no object? This would be the one. Saw this in the wild the other day on the way into Philly. Black with red trim. Young guy and his sweetheart. The car is a serious looker. At 52 I was wondering what this guy was doing to afford that…….probably best not to ask. Anyway, I still love my TLX. That’ll do…..for now.
V8 Engines are a lot more Eco friendly than a large Lithium battery which has the Ability to self destruct on a whim. I recently ordered and purchased a Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe V8. No regrets. The red brake callipers are the only thing that are not black on the car. Fully PPF'd including the piano black centre console. No scratch marks. $261k NZ dollars.
I watch almost every video you put out. But for the first time you almost got a thumbs down because you suggested that a V8 is behind the times!! How dare you I say, how dare you!! I said that all in jest.... Kinda... Love the channel. Loyal viewer.
😂 You are right! You will never get old when driving this vehicle! 😂 If you ever drive it in Germany’s highway that has no speed limit, your hair will be flying! 😂 and it’s design reminded me of the old auto race car back in last part of 30’s. Perfect for weekend driving. Great funny video Andrea!! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
I do like the new exterior styling however I also agree about the huge screen being an eyesore and dominating the interior; it will also really date the interior within not too long. There's a reason why Bugatti kept screens to a minimum in the Chiron. The cupholders and cubby situation in the centre console looks a bit cheap and uncouth as well. Definitely not winning any concours d'élégance shows in 30 years with those faux pas.
Nobody buying a car like this is sayng "Oh yeah, should have been electric." Even Mercedes knows they messed up putting a 4 cyl hybrid in the C63 and rumors are that the V8 is coming back.
It's a great lovely car . . .Im driving MBs since 45 years ,this one is the best . . .but Mercedes always has 80% the same interiors dark gray leather . . . and its not easy to get the more interesting colors . . . .they should compare the Chines autoindustrie with the most beautiful interiors . . albeit saying this I have 2 Mercs a 500 S and a GT with those boring dark gray interiors .. but the new SL is a most beautifull Car . . .
I can't wrap my head around those useless jump seats. The SL has always had a strange shelf behind the front seats with a couple covered bins, so placing a bag on the rear "seats" isn't really new.
V8 is never a step backwards. It is not just the performance. It is the combination of everything with performance and the AMG V8 sound. Never backwards. Love V8.

LOVED the video though!!
Ice is dead, my friend! These legacy OEMS like Mercedes are headed to bankruptcy court!
Am I the only one that tunes in to see what Andrea is wearing? Always a wow!
Mercedes always makes badass sounding V8’s
This makes me happy that my province does not require a front license plate😂 Putting holes in the front bumper in this would hurt my soul😅🥲
Quebec?

That’s the first thought that crossed my mind.
My state in the 🇺🇸 requires it but idc, I haven’t put the front plate on any of my cars in years

That touch screen is an eyesore.
🥰😍In my dream garage for sure! Along w/ the LX500F, S- class cabrio, and 911, LC500 and LS500!
Door seat controls rock. Honestly a top feature for me.

Videos and photos really doesn't do this car justice. The car is stunning in person, especially with silver rims. It is magnificent!
Black wheels are plain dumb and ugly. Because black absorbs light, they hide all the expensive detail you just paid for. Idiotic.
The end, scissors win. Tchu tchu tchu tchu tchu, this is gonna be fun 😅I enjoyed this review so much and it shows that you did enjoy very much producing it! So much positive vibes! Thanks for making us part of it.
Wow, thanks for the kind words!
I’m so glad that I live in a province (Québec) that doesn’t require a front license plate!
Same here in Alberta
Always love your reviews! Keep up the great work from another car nut. ❤️

Very nice Mercedes Benz! I loved my 2001 V12 SL.

Btw, what a beautiful machine!

What a review. Thanks, guys!!

I once owned a 380 SL in Ocean Blue. This looks more like a Porsche 911 Cabriolet. But I would not turn it down. Great review.
That's a great toupee Zack. Nice review.
Nice car if your a multi millionaire, but nice to see such a classy sports car with some power. Great video!

Awesome review as usual! Would you throw in the Lexus LC500 as one of the competitors? If so, which one sounds better?
Seat controls on the door would help a lot in protecting a Patek Philippe or a Rolex 😂
I'm not much of a Merc fan but this is a beautiful design. Do they still make the AMG GT? The 2 door coupe?
Now that’s a great car
Power, Luxury and fantastic looks, the price is steep but likely worth it, but you are getting close to Aston Martin price point and less exclusivity.
Waiting for a Toyota fan to come and say it's not reliable expensive to maintain etc. 😂😆 I say, what a beast 👏
