    I have lived in Southern California most of my life in south Orange County. My parents moved to San Diego and every time I would go to visit them, I felt like I was on vacation. When they retired to Tucson, AZ it became a hassle to visit them on holidays, so I moved to Phoenix, AZ., but I never got used to the heat. When my parents both passed away, I moved back to Southern California but this time to San Diego which had a lot more to do and see than South Orange County which is mainly bedroom communities, except for Laguna Beach, and Newport Beach which are the entertainment hubs. I downsized from and individual family home back into a condo since I no longer needed the extra rooms. The condo I was fortunate enough to find is on top of a hill, and has a view from La Jolla, the city, and all the way to Mexico so I couldn't be happier with my choice!

    Homelessness is a problem here in San Diego but also in Los Angeles & Sacramento. The weather makes living bearable for them. I will say (as I volunteer taking food/meals out to them), the city is great in helping out. They provide hotel vouchers, all the churches take food & necessities out and people really try to help them out. It's always going to be an issue, but we can each step up & do things to help.

    I was born and raised here and you give a pretty fair evaluation of our city. As for the four seasons... in high school, we ditched school and went up to the local mountains (Mt. Laguna) to play in the snow then drove to the beach on the same day. You really can't beat that!
    Cost of living is high, but most people looking for homes in San Diego tend to not look outside of city limits. I live in the east county and it's only a 10 minute drive to downtown but the housing prices and rentals are a lot less here (still high, but a lot less compared to the rest of the city). The homes are bigger with more land and the neighborhood is fairly walkable and bike-able (hilly in some spots, but I've managed it on a bike). San Diego is fairly large and has distinct districts so the overall population is socially, economically and culturally diverse. Where I live, you can find low-income apartments but you can just walk up the street and be in a neighborhood of million dollar homes.
    Traffic is bad but it moves slowly and steadily during the rush hours. With more people working remote, I think this becomes less and less of issue.

    • @AceKBaker
      @AceKBaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing 👍🏾 Those are all great point!
      And yes Mt. Laguna is such a hidden 💎 especially in the winter.
      It would be fun to make a video about east county sometime and you are absolutely right. There is more affordable housing and Million dollar homes.
      What's the one thing you think people should know about east county if they decide to move there?

    Thanks for making this video. You make some good points about the pros and cons of moving to SD.I l moved there many years ag and loved it. The housing and cost of living was low .I loved the ocean and Balboa park. The mexican food was great I moved away to N.Calif in 1992.I did attempt to move back to SD in 2003,and stayed with friend at his home in Lemon Grove. After 4 month I moved back East. Thank you for a very informative video as I have lived in the San Francisco Bay for over 35 years but have spent the past 10 years in Las Vegas and like every place else, the rents have gone up in 2022 even in Las Vegas due to the pandemic. Hi Loren, very good point! I was actually surprised to learn that rents went up in Las Vegas because tourism and the gambling industry were hit so hard.
      I think you'll really enjoy it hear. Cheaper than SF and life is more laid back then Las Vegas. Me might not have as much entertainment but a lot more everything else.

      @@AceKBaker Not sure if I already want to study in SD or move there afterwards but both SDSU and my local University have the major that I want to study so the decision is fortunately up to me. I love San Diego or at least the idea of it that you and other youtubers give me, I also can relate to you because I myself am from northern Germany too, I'm from the beautiful City of Rostock on the baltic coast and San Diego really reminds me of it (maybe not the homelessness and traffic) except that the weather is good all year and it's way bigger, mainly that both are dependant on tourism, at the beach, expensive housing and (according to other youtubers) a lot of douchebags, so even though they also share some cons it will be really easy to adapt if I'd move there. I also like San Diego/LA sports teams: SD padres, SDSU Aztecs, LA Chargers and USC Trojans to name a few

Here is some general info: San Diego has a crime rate that is 15 percent lower than the national average. It is safer than 34 percent of all the cities in the country. Even if you do encounter a crime, it will likely be burglary of theft, not violence. But do you have any questions in specific?

      You bet, Albert! Where in San Diego are you thinking about moving to? As far as the beaches go, it would be Ocean Beach and parts of Pacif Beach. I would recommend walking or biking the areas you might consider before you decide to rent something permanently.

    Don't move to San Diego and expect us to create affordable housing for you, or do use less resources to make room for more people. Unfortunately that is what's being asked of us today. They (politicians mostly) want us to tear our our lawns, move into high density housing and get out of our cars and onto public transportation all to make room for more people.

    • @AceKBaker
      @AceKBaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes that's the reality of things. I don't mind higher density, mixed used developments if they are planned nicely and if there is truly a great public transportation system in place. But if we are just building without a plan and the necessary infrastructure to support it we are not heading in the right direction.

  • @l.carlossimental6096
    @l.carlossimental6096 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I lived in San Diego for 9 years and totally regretted it. San Diego has its own version of the “Seattle freeze” so don’t expect the natives to be welcoming to newcomers. Also, I found San Diego to have a racism and intolerance problem, especially in places like El Cajon, Vista, and Fallbrook. If you love Trump and believe the “big lie,” then San Diego, especially North and East County, is your place. Also, San Diego is the only border city that actually turns its back to Mexico. If you are a minority, especially Black,, expect the “San Diego treatment” and I would highly recommend you do not move to San Diego to avoid career and personal trauma and move instead to a more tolerant city.

      Hey Robert, All good points. I think the dating seen is perhaps not quit as grim.
      Some of my friends had frustrations with dating apps and the results but San Diego makes it easy to be outside 300 day a year and there are plenty of interest groups you can join and meet down to earth like-minded people. I just released Pt.1 of a 2 part biking video series where we discussed the local Urban Bike and Social Club, ( th-cam.com/video/7UVrL9MrLbc/w-d-xo.html) where many people came for camaraderie and ended up finding a life partner and there are many more examples of stories in similar clubs.
