That's the boat I'm in. I recently discovered Mother's headlight restoration ability (where Meguiar's headlight restoration failed) and it's interesting you say Autosol won't do the job that well, cause I was meaning to try that next. Do you think mother's is safe to be used on car windows and side mirrors also, cause of course, there's a difference between plastic headlights and glass. Haven't tried it yet.

R&J Metal Polish, that's made in a shed/shop, in the woods east of Ona Beach, which is 8 miles South of Newport,OR. It's an old Harley builders recipe that was purchased by a Father & Son (my former In-Laws). It's the absolute best metal polish that I've ever seen and/or used!
I use metal polish around the house too. I do all the chrome taps and handles in my bathroom to keep them looking beautiful. My tow ball on my work ute gets a periodical hit too.
Came back to add that I’ve used 3D One with a DA, soft foam pad, and high speed to polish delicate plated surfaces. I think as long as your surface isn’t really dealing with the elements for long (think musical instruments), go for a traditional wax that applies well and adds the gloss you like (Meguiars Deep Crystal is a good example). Two coats should suffice for a while. Can’t forget though about Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Wax. Not the shiniest, but this stuff cures very hard and does what it says for pennies on the dollar. This remains a great video that serves as an example of for other testers and reviewers to follow.
One point is cost too. I just bought Mothers ~142ml for $10 at the local big auto chain store. Autosol was $20 for only 75ml - so twice the qty for half the price makes the Mothers 25% of the cost here (Canada) - is the mothers going to be 4x the elbow grease...im doubting it. Haven't tried it yet but i'll be using it on old motorcycle wheels steel spokes, chrome rim and another aluminum rim so we'll see how it goes!
May be your last metal review but this is very helpful for boat owners who have metal T-Tops and other metal parts that get destroyed by the salt water. Very helpful videos, I’m returning the collonite metal was as I went all in on their brand, but clearly their metal polish isn’t very good. Thanks !
Been following your videos and your rich content. Disappointing that the tried and tested collinite failed to deliver always had high expectations of that brand. Thanks once again for this awesome review. Cheers.
Thanks mate, and Collinite is one of the best names in car waxes, and their metal wax did okay in some of my prior testing and panels leading up to this video, but as a whole and by comparison to the others, it could definitely be a little better.
As a metal worker I say kudos for using all different types of metal as you understand the massive differences 👌🏽 Some polishes aren't even recommended for Chrome Plating. Some worse for wear metals will need a proper compound with a calico buff. But these are great for up keep of a machine polished finish. And chromes. Once I found the Meguiars NXT I kept it in my toolbox for the combination of finish & protection/weatherability it leaves behind. Shame i can't find it readily avail. Anymore. With the Mothers I found a more brilliant finish with the Mothers Billet Polish. And Autosol now has a larger range of products readily available for specific Metals from Aluminium to Gold etc. Which I find a much better finish than the OG autosol. Just my 2 cents. Once again, thanks again for yet another Unmatched review Sandro! Truly my go to channel for anything detailing.
Thanks heaps Sandro, I own my own Motorcycle detailing business here is Townsville, the majority of my customers are Harley owners so I see alot of metal and chrome polishing. I typically use 4 things when cleaning and polishing chrome and alloy on a Harley - 0000 Steal wool for chrome, Carpro Metallic Cut for my first initial clean/polish on alloy and then Mother's Mag&Aluminium polish over the top to add that pop. And then usually a coat of wax or I found Carpro Reload layered on a couple times also makes chrome pop really well as a sealant after the entire process. Going to try NV Lustre on this current bike I am detailing & correcting some alloy parts on. Cheers mate - love your channel and is my go to TH-cam channel anything detailing!
Mate, thank you - this is a brilliant comparison video! Your insight, experience and detail on using these for various metals and the way you separated cutting vs finishing is extremely helpful! Definitely the only video I needed to watch tonight and you've saved me heaps of time wondering what to buy. A massive thumbs up and thanks once again! ...now to get this rocker cover reflecting like a mirror...
Waaaaoooo , Just big wao, the effort you put in here is just amazing. I recently purchased a Meguiars NXT metal polish, I actually like it really much over Autosol . But having said that, all I need to polish is the exhaust tip trim on my Megane RS265
Yes I like the NXT better as well, and yes it’s also sad that metal tips are just about the only thing most car owners have to metal polish these days!
Just get a grinder, yellow airway with any brown tripoli compound, white airway with any white/blue/purple finishing compound. Will get you a mirror finish on all metal types. 😉
Very good video! Autosol will forever be my favourite for sentimental reasons. My grandfather used it for everything except toothpaste, I hope, haha! Cheers!
Got a bottle of Mettalicut in the garage that I haven't opened yet. Maybe this is a sign that I need to go polish my STi's exhaust tips and throw some Dlux on afterward.
I have a 67 Chevelle loaded with chrome, so this video was very helpful. I’ve been using Surf City Garage Killer Chrome for several years. It doesn’t have a lot of defect removal capabilities, but it does finish down extremely well. I am one that really doesn’t require a product for removing heavy oxidation and scratches, so Killer Chrome is a great product to suit my needs. Great video!
Meguiar's NXT which you mentioned but did not test, is the best I've ever used on nickel plating on musical instruments. I might add the jar is of a quality level to keep it fresh and moist in the jar for years. I do think the type of metal may vary the results. I may try Auto Finesse based on your results, best finish on this medium soft metal is what I'm after. Thanks.
Great video many thanks for doing the hard work in testing and research beacuse I can't be bothered..! But of course want to be informed enough to make the choice , great job I'm very grateful.. Regards.
Hey Sandro! Nice video of some of the many polishes out there. I have the Purple on my shelf as my go to polish and believed before watching your video that it would rank amongst the the 3 if not first! I did do a little research on Carpro New polish and my thoughts initially was that it seemed pretty good...maybe even better then Purple. So I’m stoked about your final results and opinion on the two. Thanks again for taking the time and many hours to bring us these results. Good day mate! 👋🏾
You should have a look into FERRO'S liquid reflection. i have been using for about 10 years now its its still hands down best metal polish i have ever used
Great video, first real metal cleanup review I see. I’ve used the first one and it did a great job but I’ve seen better. I did try something on my side, I have used the ceramic stove/cooker paste cleaner and it did a really good job !
Thanks for doing this as I’m currently working on a microlight aircraft which the unpainted aluminium has certainly tarnished. I was going to use Metall, a aviation type of polish, but already found it is very aggressive and oxidises quickly after completion. Now I have a choice! Thanks.

Great review, Sandro.👍 I have been using Autosol for years. The only parts of my car that I use metal polish on, are the exhaust and rear diff. I use Autosol first and then finish off with Meguiar's NXT metal polish.
Simply brilliant (damn puns!) video. Any insights from anyone on using these products on musical instruments? Mellophones aren’t cheap (even rented/used ones that deserve a polishing) so I’d prefer to hear from anyone with experience applying polishes to brass or plated brass.
First off love all your videos, secondly upload the 4hrs version I want to see, i have watched more than 4hrs of your videos in one afternoon before. I appreciate that mate and maybe in the future once I have more 4K footage storage space and a beefier computer I’ll try and put up more behinds the scenes and extra footage for those that might like to see that!
What about the colored buffing compounds, like the green chromium, rogue, or blue? How would they compare to those pastes in terms of cut, finish, and on different materials? Also, what would car polishes do to metal; can they even cut or finish at all?
I unfortunately don’t have any experience with those coloured compounds, but you can certainly use paint compounds on metal as well - I’ve discussed and shown that it some past videos - they can work well, it just all depends
Sandro! You do outdo yourself each time. A quick question, what is your opinion on Nv Glass Coating vs Nv Glass Lite coating. I would love for you to help me out here as I dont have enough information to make an informed decision.
Glass Lite is really a less durable version of Nova Glass that also has some mild cleaning abilities and can be additionally used to maintain Nova Glass, thanks mate.
All I ever used was autosol back when in the army on my chrome parts, but I wish I knew what I know now, I'd be busting out the rupes nano to sand and polish 😂
Right now i am having a problem with my catholic rosary which is used to be gunmetal colour, but now it became silverish colour because of the gunmetal colour been worn off.. so i would like to know which one should i use to repolish back gunmetal colour?
I have a motorcycle with an aluminium and steel frame, the aluminium part has gained little black spots, the bike is 23 years old Every person i ask tells me that its there to stay. My question is, will a product like autosol be able to remove them? Thanks
Typically those corrosive spots on older aluminium are really fused to the metal so that a polish won’t be able to remove them. What can work is quite a more involved process in sanding back the aluminium with coarser grades of sand paper, to medium and then finer grades and then using heavy compounds to medium and finally your metal polish. Basically it’s a lengthy metal restoration required.
You should do a video on leather conditioners. I've been trying to find the best for the price that's not greesy and right now its either color lock or dr.beesleys
It depends on what sort of condition they are in and if it’s an old school softer alloy, but if it is and they aren’t too bad, you may like the polishers here that finished better like Auto Finesse and Mothers, but if the rims need a little more work or the aluminium is a bit harder then California Customs or Metallicut may be a better choice.
Great video! I am working on my Father’s motorcycle than he left to me when he passed. I was curious on what hand polisher you are using in this video. Also what buffing pads do you recommend for polishing motorcycle chrome? Truly appreciate the feedback. Cheers!
Thanks mate and I think that’s a beautiful thing to work on and restore your dad’s motorcycle. I’ll give you a link to the polisher I used in the video and as far as pads go have a look at Microfibre pads if the chrome needs a bit more attention in removing oxidation and light swirls, while foam pads can be great if the chrome just needs a lighter polish to clean it up. The polisher fits any 3” size Velcro pads and there load of different ones around, so just go fit whatever fits your budget. www.waxit.com.au/collections/shine-mate/products/shine-mate-ex-603-12mm
Gday mate. Great vid. I was just wondering about doing the chrome/alloy trim on my HQ's plus my HQ Kidney type dished alloy wheels. I have Autosol, California and Mother's metal polish to use. I had tried using a felt type buffer I purchased from Supercheap used in a Drill to do the bumpers and trim but wanted to know what is the best type of applicator to use in the drill or my Shinemate DA???? IE felt, microfibre, foam-like the Mother's Powerball???? I have found on the CHrome bumper I seem to be getting some scratching using the Drill/Supercheap buffing bit using either Autosol or Mothers. What or where can I get a QUALITY buffing bit to use to polish and remove the scratches????? I have used Autosol many times along with Mothers by hand using old flannel material shirts and got good results on the alloy wheels. But I want to do a more professional job on the chrome and other alloys like stainless steel. Any advice where to get some good buffing bits would be great.
Because chrome’s amazing finish is created with chemical and electric treatments, it’s hard to remove things like noticeable scratches without dulling the finish and because chrome is generally plated you don’t won’t to go too hard as you may eat through the platting layer to the base metal. But you can still improve it without chasing the deeper scratches. It’s normal to get some hazing to start with if you’re using something like a wool pad on a drill or rotary and sometimes you have to get a little aggressive to level down the scratches. You then have to follow up with with something like a foam pad on a DA polisher to restore the shine. If you want to avoid getting to much haze to start with try a microfibre cutting pad with your metal polish as it tend to cut well and finish finish reasonably well on a DA polisher - something like a 3” mini polisher would be ideal. You could then switch to a foam polishing pad with the sand polish to restore maximum brilliance
They can work well on plastic chrome like trims. The issue is that all those materials and trims are massively different so your results from one car to the next may also vary a lot. I worked on some where the outcome was fantastic and others where even a very light polish removed the chrome finish in an instant to reveal a copper like finish beneath- so just be careful. Typically I’ve found that on older cars those trims are safer and better quality to work on, while new cars - 2010 onwards - I don’t like to touch those trims at all, they are usually cheap and nasty with very thin and sensitive coatings.
It depends... lol Evo is one of the best single layer coatings on the market, not cheap but fairly easy and forgiving to work with and as a single layer coating it’s very tough to beat. CQUK is amazingly value and if you don’t mind laying down 2-3 coats it looks and performs great if you’re willing to get the larger bottle and take the time to layer it. I’ve had both of them on my cars and been super with the results. UK3.0 + Sic is something I want to try next and see how it goes!
Microfibre is probably the best for cutting as it’s very effective yet still finishes very well. Wool can also cut great but won’t tend to finish as well. For lighter applications and finishing well on softer metals, foam is a great choice there!
Super informative video Sandro! What do you mean by ‘finish’? Is it ease of use or gloss? Would a gloss metre (before and after) have helped quantify? Keep up the great work.
So the results say to buy Auto Finesse Mercury Metal Polish for Aluminum Alloy Wheels for the best shiny finish??? 8th in cutting so I will have to keep polishing. Thank You
Well turns out I CAN'T Find IT! So I went with Chemical guys Light Metal Polish so I hope that works out well! I noticed you didn't have any for the test😥
Great comparison video thank you. Random question for you. Do you think the Mother's Mag and Aluminium would work for uncoated aluminium window frames which are quite oxidised? About 40 years old and looking very worse for wear. Thanks
Thanks and yes, it should work well on bare aluminium trims, it may require quite a bit of elbow grease to cut through that heavy oxidation but you should in any case see a great improvement.
Hi Sandro - great video as always. Just wondering how does something like metallicut compare to a paintwork cutting compound in terms of it's ability to remove defects. Something like Scholl S2/S20? I have scratches to remove from tailpipes and saw from another of your videos (a while ago) that you recommended traditional compounds in their place - or have the advances in metal polishes from CarPro etc made it a closer one to call now?
Thanks and yes it would be interesting to test that out, but my gut feeling is that a coarse paint compound will tend to cut more in relation to swirls or scratches but it probably won’t finish as well as most metal polishes. Scratches can be quite difficult to remove from most metals, and equally difficult to refine compounding swirls so you may be in for quite a bit of work!

Unfortunately the brand didn’t seem to go well here locally so I don’t think anyone is importing it at present.
Could you post the polish tool that you used too? Thanks!
Thoughts on Eagle:1? I guess results would be similar but it's what I've used for a decade.
I’m sorry mate, but I just don’t have any experience with it
Right now i am having a problem with my catholic rosary which is used to be gunmetal colour, but now it became silverish colour because of the gunmetal colour been worn off.. so i would like to know which one should i use to repolish back gunmetal colour?
It sounds as though the gunmetal was a plated metal over the steel that has worn off, so I’m not sure a metal polish would help you out here.
Surprised there was no Bowdens Own
Why
@@user-jk7yz3xs8z it's an Australian made metal polish and can be bought locally. If Mother's is included, why not Bowden's?
I have a motorcycle with an aluminium and steel frame, the aluminium part has gained little black spots, the bike is 23 years old
Every person i ask tells me that its there to stay.
Thanks for this video, but finaly, wich produce the best shine mirror for aluminium?
I like that swirl finder, what brand is it and is the cost reasonable??

You should do a video on leather conditioners. I've been trying to find the best for the price that's not greesy and right now its either color lock or dr.beesleys
what car are you using it on that has real leather?
@@NicholasCox85 I detail on the side. I have a couple customers with leather seats.

I bought callinite wax because it was the only one that leaves wax on the finish.
I’ve been using zephyr Pro40 kit, And there is not one metal polish with the buffing pad that will come close to this one
wich one is the best betwin all the polishes for the wheels aluminium

Gday mate.
How do these work on like plastic chrome finish?
They can work well on plastic chrome like trims. The issue is that all those materials and trims are massively different so your results from one car to the next may also vary a lot. I worked on some where the outcome was fantastic and others where even a very light polish removed the chrome finish in an instant to reveal a copper like finish beneath- so just be careful. Typically I’ve found that on older cars those trims are safer and better quality to work on, while new cars - 2010 onwards - I don’t like to touch those trims at all, they are usually cheap and nasty with very thin and sensitive coatings.
Sandro! Should I coat my car with NV Nova Evo or U.K 3.0?? What would you do?
It depends... lol
Evo is one of the best single layer coatings on the market, not cheap but fairly easy and forgiving to work with and as a single layer coating it’s very tough to beat.
Can any of these products remove scratches from brushed aluminium engine covers?
They can certainly remove very light swirls but any thing more substantial will tend to require sanding and compounding before hand.
Can you post all the rankings in the description? Its hard to keep track just by watching. Im looking for the best polish to use before gold plating.
No FLITZ in Australia?
I’m not sure, but it’s perhaps not quite as well known here.
Hi, where can I get Quick Glo in Australia? I can’t find it for $20.
It’s been a while since I bought it, but I got it on eBay - just searched for Quick Glo
Hello, which one will I use in knives with more pasari?
Have you ever tried Zephyrs?
No I haven’t
Hi Sandro. Which pad do recommend to use for cutting and polishing chrome surfaces?
Microfibre is probably the best for cutting as it’s very effective yet still finishes very well. Wool can also cut great but won’t tend to finish as well.
For lighter applications and finishing well on softer metals, foam is a great choice there!
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Thanks Sandro
Super informative video Sandro! What do you mean by ‘finish’? Is it ease of use or gloss? Would a gloss metre (before and after) have helped quantify? Keep up the great work.
Thanks and it’s the brilliance of the metal I’m referring to
So the results say to buy Auto Finesse Mercury Metal Polish for Aluminum Alloy Wheels for the best shiny finish??? 8th in cutting so I will have to keep polishing. Thank You
Well turns out I CAN'T Find IT! So I went with Chemical guys Light Metal Polish so I hope that works out well! I noticed you didn't have any for the test😥
Update NOTHING BEATS Mothers Billet metal polish😡😱😫
Great comparison video thank you. Random question for you. Do you think the Mother's Mag and Aluminium would work for uncoated aluminium window frames which are quite oxidised? About 40 years old and looking very worse for wear. Thanks
Thanks and yes, it should work well on bare aluminium trims, it may require quite a bit of elbow grease to cut through that heavy oxidation but you should in any case see a great improvement.
Legend 👌
