Wayne shorter ...like honey. warm dark comforting sweet and to the point. rest in peace maestro. with all the others. may be one day I get to hear you again up there peace we follow in your footprints but will never reach your peaks.sleep well
Whenever I hear Wayne Shorter in conjunction with Miles Davis performing 'Footprints', it conjures up, in my mind, images of the fabulous cave paintings to be found in South West France (Lascaux etc.)
Yeah he can go mad outside but the real challenge is playing hip and original stuff that’s inside, Shorter’s sort of, reframing of the melody in this performance just sounds so fresh and yet deeply rooted in the song’s DNA
Ah, what a joy. I was at that concert. These guys one week and Miles Davis w/ Gil Evans Orchestra & Quincy Jones another. George Duke made an appearance, too. Happy days 😁
Stanley Clarke is just as prolific a double bass player, as he is an electric bassist. Since his fusion days, as well as the genre are pretty much behind him, I look forward to hearing many more small accoustic ensemble offerings from him like this one. That solo is rich!
Wayne's solo has some beautiful moments as only the master can conjure. Everyone else, including Herbie Hancock is good as a backup to the main act, WAYNE! He is one of the truly great Jazz genius if our time,,which he would probably hate hearing...lol!!!
Of all these guys Shorter is probably inarguably the most significant composer of them all. The Shorter Song Book is one of the heaviest in modern jazz, I always think of Shorter first as a composer of musical ideas, his sax just a vehicle.
We (wife and I) saw this arrangement of Footprints performed in Chicago and the beautiful and talented Terri Lyne Carrington was on drums. She was explosive...just like Omar and Wayne wasn't bad either. Wayne is an icon in all music not only Jazz.
The portion of this song that precedes the main portion of "Footprints" is called "Ballroom in the Sky," which is played in full during Carlos Santana's and Wayne Shorter's 1988 tour.
WHAT - A - BAND! All these guys together...I would kill to hear them live, although I have experienced some amazing bands as well, including Power Of Three with Chick Corea, Lenny White and Stanley Clarke (prefer him playing the double bass, btw), or Wayne Shorter Quartet with Pattitucci on the bass (as a bassist, I cannot help myself but mentioning the bass players :))
Wayne originally wrote that turnaround as part of his arrangement but the recording with miles and on his solo album in the 60s didn't use it. You can see his original handwritten chart if you check his excellent biography by Michelle Mercer.
super 80s soundy, but also going for the wonderful wayne shorter vibe we've all come to know and love. Killin.. the only criticism goes to the james brown ending quote/fade out.. kinda out man lol
I'm in the audience...Back in '91 I drove over 300 Miles to see Montreux....GOOD MEMORIES!!!....GREAT SHOW!!!
Wayne Shorter's music is timeless. It will last as long as folks have ears.
RIP Wayne Shorter.
RIP Wayne. Bon voyage to the stars.
Footprints is my go-to when I want to play something without thinking at all about what I'm playing. The freedom in his approach persists.
RIP Wayne. you will always be remembered.
Miss this guy 🎼🎵🎶🎵🎷
First time ever hearing a drummer play harmony , rhythm ,melody and six time sigs at once. Humbled I am.
Signature Shorter Sound...Omar was a beast on this tune and Stanley is just Mr Pocket himself
Amazing arrangement of an amazing composition. A master class by all ! Wayne Shorter - RIP.
RIP Wayne Shorter. Thank you for the music
он не умер
Rest in peace wayne shorter, great musician.

Apt. It's impressionistic, Shorter himself in his whole approach is this way.
This man is so outside, he is inside.
And vice versa
Inside Out < >
Brilliant!
Yeah he can go mad outside but the real challenge is playing hip and original stuff that’s inside, Shorter’s sort of, reframing of the melody in this performance just sounds so fresh and yet deeply rooted in the song’s DNA
Just think about the theme, the idea, manifest it, don't think about what key you're in.
R.I.P. Wayne Shorter
Mind blowing.
Ah, what a joy. I was at that concert. These guys one week and Miles Davis w/ Gil Evans Orchestra & Quincy Jones another. George Duke made an appearance, too. Happy days 😁
Reminds me Of my sweet home Chicago and the great radio station WBEZ. what a great city it was, but is now dying like everything else.
Stanley Clarke is just as prolific a double bass player, as he is an electric bassist. Since his fusion days, as well as the genre are pretty much behind him, I look forward to hearing many more small accoustic ensemble offerings from him like this one. That solo is rich!
More famous now.
Those flips on that funk was sick as hell.
So many thx for Jazz, Latin Jazz, Fusion and many more. Reast in Peace Legend of Sax
A few styles packaged and performed into one incredible song.

Herbie' s left hand. man o man.

13:25 I just love this exact moment when Stanley Clarke just found a super cool bassline on the spot.
awesome groove at the beggining
I'm trying to find if Wayne has actually composed a tune with this incredible groove.
The portion of this song that precedes the main portion of "Footprints" is called "Ballroom in the Sky," which is played in full during Carlos Santana's and Wayne Shorter's 1988 tour.
Geniuses at work... it's fun to see!
Damn!!That was the shit!!Stanley Clarke man omg!The entire outfit is Stellar!
Magicians Musicians!!!

giannidinovi Clarke rocks it on the double bass!
a wayne tune from one of his 80s fusion records i believe
Wayne originally wrote that turnaround as part of his arrangement but the recording with miles and on his solo album in the 60s didn't use it.
You can see his original handwritten chart if you check his excellent biography by Michelle Mercer.
OMAR!!!!!!!!!!!
Divine stuff, Wayne Shorter! From Amanda, a jazziteer

from 12:20 is the best :)
why come Omar could play drums likes that?
The same way you get to Canegie Hall ;D
Anyone know what mouthpiece he's using In this one?
the time is a 3/4? or 6/8?
igormma5150 puede ser escrito en ambas métricas y las dos estarían correctas
I think of it in 6/4
6/8, no doubt
igormma5150 - It’s a 12 bar minor blues in 6/4, with some slight harmonic modifications to the form.
2:43 👁 👁
Omar on them drums though….
