my mother had a similar type of place in the Dominican Republic in a beautiful gated compound right on the cliffs overlooking Sosua Beach. 10 years later: buildings disintegrating due to too much sand in the concrete (corrupt builders maximizing profits), clubhouse lights not working, pool green with algae, common areas trashed, management company nowhere to be found. just be aware in 3rd world countries, you have to be diligent in your research. check out at about the 14:50 mark. you shouldn't see chunks of wall missing in a brand new, unfinished space. that is typically when there is too much sand in the mix.

I'm trying to make sure that I understand something. When you pay the money it's only a lease for a certain number of years and then you pay to lease it again? There are other countries where you can buy the same home cheaper and own it outright. If I'm wrong please correct me. If I'm right, can you leave the property to someone else if you died? I remember my very hard working Ghanaian neighbours, one a taxi driver, the other an auxilary nurse, planning to sell their tiny London house and retire to a massive palace in Ghana that they were building on the outskirts of Accra - clearly there are some benefits of all this cash flowing back to the mother country, but how much of it ends up in the hands of ordinary Ghanaians? I'm not sure building luxury enclaves for the mega rich is going to do much for the average person in the street...
I think if these developers can add a few high rise commercial spaces in there it might help reduce everyone having to travel all the way to the city center to work.
