Hey Leif! I’m currently at the VA hospital getting help and your videos are helping me through this tough time. It was really cool yesterday the VA took us to a little stocked pond to fish. I caught 11 trout including my first ever brook trout! I actually caught 2 brookies. Both really really good size. They were all catch and release, but fishing like that and watching your videos made me feel at home. I get to leave in 3 weeks and man I can wait to get back out there and do some catch and cooks again. Thank you for your relaxing video content!! Fish on baby!!

Sasquatch stories - bring back memories. Mine is kind of lame, in a way, and in another way, fun to recall.
The summer I was 15 I read the book of the guy who was Canada's leading sasquatch authority at the time.
    Loved the book. Great book.
Three years later, the summer I was 18, I met the daughter of this author on a train going out west to British Columbia.
On my way back east near the end of the summer, I jumped off the train and walked through the night from Chilliwack in southern BC, about 12-15 miles up the back highway to Aggasiz. And then the very next day got to take a trip about another 10 miles up that highway to Harrison Hot Springs.
Because Peter Green, the author of that Sasquatch book, was running the local newspaper in a small office right on the Main Street of Harrison Hot Springs.
I showed up (after his daughter gave him the heads up) and I got about 90 minutes of his time to sit and chew the fat.
The one thing that I remember is how he sort of burst the bubble. According to him, an average sasquatch had about the same intelligence level as an average moose. I was devastated, sort of, but I got over it.
All these years later I still remember the details of that day.
Needless to say, all the dark and lonely nights spent camping in southeastern Alberta, and down in southern British Columbia, it was bears (black and grizzly) wolves (timber and gray) coyotes (a bit) and especially mountain lions that were on my mind, a lot more than sasquatches. I was lucky, I guess. Never came across any of them in the wild.
In fact, I had more encounters with black bears in the wilderness and on the edge of the town I lived in growing up in northern Ontario. Many a time I shared the same giant blueberry patch. I'd be at one end and one or more black bears would be at the other end. Me filling a pail. The bears eating as they went. We each knew the other was there, but we ignored each other.
I gotta say, after however many months now watching these videos, I almost feel a familiar connection, like part of me is there in the video (invisible) seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting it all from the inside out. These videos are something I often watch late at night when I can't sleep.
Eventually they calm me down, something so mellow and easy. This is the real thing - and it is the genuine quality of what is presented that does the trick. Thanks for all this. It serves a good purpose.

One of the scariest moments I've had while camping occurred deep in a Western Australian forest, hundreds of kilometers from civilization. It was a desolate area with no signs of human activity for hours. An eerie feeling crept over me as I started unpacking my gear. Something just didn't feel right. I began walking down the trail, and after a few minutes, I realized why everything felt off: there were no sounds of birds or insects. Even the trees seemed unnaturally quiet; as if they were afraid to make a disturbance. Every time I took a step, it sounded like a step was taken behind me, only for me to turn around and see nothing.
I'm a 35-year-old, 6'2" guy who can handle himself pretty well. But anyone who camps alone knows that sometimes your nerves get the better of you. There's something primal in your brain that reminds you of your vulnerability in the wild, the need for shelter and sustenance. So I brushed off the uneasy feeling and pressed on. I tried foraging but found nothing. Fishing proved fruitless as well. I settled for a bit of hiking before calling it a night and setting up camp.
Around 2 a.m. I was abruptly woken by shuffling noises outside my tent. I lay frozen, listening intently, my heart pounding in my chest. The sounds were human-like, but there was something strange about them, as if the person was purposefully avoiding lifting their feet off the ground. After a tense moment, I mustered the courage to switch on my flashlight and called out, "Is someone there?" The shuffling ceased, and a heavy silence fell upon me. Then an unexpected aroma - of freshly baked pastries. Like a morning bakery. The scent was so strong it made me salivate.
Suddenly, I heard a noise, like a heavy object being dragged away at speed. As the sound faded into the distance, so did the enticing aroma, replaced by a chilling drop in temperature.
For the next three hours, I remained wide awake, clutching my leatherman tight until the sun began to rise. I unzipped my tent, hastily exited, and scanned the area. I noticed some tracks near my tent, partially concealed by the foliage. I quickly packed up my belongings and made a beeline back to my car, my heart still racing. Threw my stuff in my car, and drove away.
I kept eyeing my rear-view mirror, checking the entrance to the carpark I'd just left, and I swear I saw something moving. Still have no idea if I just had a stroke or something, but it still gives me chills thinking about that feeling.

I got a camp fire story for you! When I was younger, my grandfather and I were out hunting in the middle of a national forest in a little two person camper, it was late one night and we had been in bed for a few hours when I heard walking around our camp. There was no other "humans" around us hunting, what made it scary is what ever it was actually tapped on our camper as to investigate what it was. God rest my grandfather he always said that was a big sasquach and he knew we where in his territory and as long as we threw a whole fish into the forest we would always be safe. That's my goose bump story! I still do that to this day I pay respects to the forest by offering up what extra fish I catch.

You could try an old unsnagging technique: grab the loose line with one hand, put some tension on it and pull and release it with the other hand multiple times, kinda like playing a guitar. It makes the lure pop off of the obstacle. Works 95% of the time for me.

9:13am here in Oregon! Thank you so much for sharing these videos. I’ve been watching all of them since I discovered you.
I’ve been a forager/wildcrafter camper/hiker here in the PNW for decades but just started fishing. It’s so intimidating and I have no one to teach me but I feel like your my teacher now!
I really appreciate when you remind us about the details like being quiet approaching the lake or what kind of bait to use. I don’t feel so alone anymore and feel totally inspired. I’ve been out several times since I started watching but still haven’t caught anything. But moving next week close to the Rogue and Illinois river.
Personally I’d like to see you go crabbing because that’s something I want to do and have never seen.

Great stories pal. Love your content and simplicity of the show. No egos. Just like real life.
That said, I have spent most of my life in the woods. Working as a logger in the Tongass, trapping since I was 12, in the Chugach range. A bunch of solo stuff. I was never afraid, even when I was unarmed, which was rare. I never saw hide hair of big foots. I walked my mule once around a sketchy steep mountain trail once upon a time and came face to face with the most feared critter in the far north....an angry chittering chimpmonk!!!!! I'm 65 years old.

Hi Leif! The reason your old sleeping mat might have popped could be because you've been filling the mat with your breath (as a lot of people do). The moisture in one's breath is really bad for the materials in a lot of these mats (the TPU breaks down from hydrolysis, etc.), so I'd recommend getting a pump-bag for your mat which could also double as a dry bag when not in use.

When I was about 12 I was riding our old shitty Suzuki 125 quad on some abandoned roads behind my parents property in the Cascades and had a too close encounter with a Cougar. My little brother was with me on the back of the quad. We stalled on an old overgrown road and as I was reaching for the pull handle to start the quad I heard gravel scraping and turned to my left to see a huge male Cougar sliding right up to our quad on the road. I think he was going to jump on my back until I turned around to face him and made him slam on the brakes. We had a stare down for probably 20 seconds, face to face, less than 2 feet apart. Like you said- The most intense goose bumps, my hair stood up on end, my sense of hearing and smell were heightened and I could smell him and his breath. He moved his eyes, not his head, to his left and then took two slow steps in front of the quad. I didn't move my body an inch, just followed him with my eyes. My little brother had a death grip around my waist but wasn't moving or making a sound either. The cat stopped for about 10 seconds, looked up the hill, back at me and then took off into the trees. As soon as the cat was gone my little brother started screaming as I fired up the quad and hauled ass back to our cabin. He cried the entire way and for a good half hour when we got home.
I had 2 more run ins with that same Cougar over the next 6-7 years. Never saw him again, but heard him and saw his tracks over the top of mine.....

Kinda seen as a nuisance fish here but it was still very fun. My next trip out I want to go for some perch fishing which is common here in MD.

It was 2008 we were out hunting for Thunder eggs stones. My mom, dad, brother and nephew were with me. We all got to our location in the Ococho forest in Oregon. We started digging in pits that other dug at before. After about an hour of us Digging we heard a bellowing yell, you could feel it in your chest, sounded very monkey like but almost Female. Was not a Cougar or a bobcat something way different. All of our heads popped out of our holes like gophers. Me my dad and brother all looked at each other and said yep its time to go. Hair on our arms standing straight up we promptly left the area and headed back to town. I have no ideas what could scream as loud as it did. Have never gone back there it scares me so much.

Leif, just discovered your channel a few days ago, im binge watching it, it's top tear content. Im from Brazil and experienced almost the same glowing deer eyes situation as you, coming back from a night stand hunt i pointed my flashlight to green glowing eyes, my heart sank for a second and i got the most intense goosebumps of my life, just like you said. We have jaguars and mountain lions (puma) around here, so, it isn't so unlikely to cross paths with one of them at night. Cheers, keep up the great work.

Sasquatch? Yellow Belly Lake (Idaho).....mid May (2021)....my friend and I were trying to drive up (in a 4x4) the unimproved road.......got about 1/2 way up....had to park and walk. No sooner did we start walking up the road we heard what sounded like someone hitting a stick on a tree.......but really, really loudly. My friend asks "who's building up here"? I told her "no one".....there was no one up there that early in the year. We heard it a few more times as we walked up further.......then some small rocks came flying over our heads.....NOT like a person threw them.....they were "zinging" over us like they were going 100mph.......that's when we turned around and left........the rocks kept coming and they were a good 20 feet above our heads......Won't go back up there with anything smaller than a 44mag.
