WOW, This is incredible! What a nice engine, fine looking crew, and Holy Crap The Caboose man!!! This is a part of history i wish i could have seen first hand, this style of railway working, and needless to say most of the equipment, are all long gone.and i was born three years too late, although to go back further and see the railways from the 50's on... *sigh...

Hey Larry great videos of trains. I went to Myrtle Street & Parkside with you years ago. Now living in Bluffton South Carolina. Your videos bring back great memories of growing up in St. Thomas. Makes me homesick!

Hi Dan What years did you go to Myrtle Street School? I recall your name and think I may have been there the same time. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I was there until I graduated from grade 8 1969-1970 Thanks,

@@sdc5683 Steve: You and I went to Myrtle Street School at the time had Mrs. Pineo and Barry Whiteman as teachers. We also attended Parkside Collegiate at the same time too. Last time, I remember seeing you was at the Canadian Tire Store in St. Thomas. You were working in the garage as a apprentice mechanic. You installed a new muffler and exhaust on My Mum's old Plymouth Duster. Seems like a million years ago now; when the times were much less complicated.

Great catch of a "flying switch" (aka "Dutch drop") - something you don't see anymore. Also too bad the CASO was pulled up... would have remained a good short-cut from Detroit to Buffalo, maybe for CSX today.

Back then, you improvised the job to make it easier. I've seen brakemen push and pull on grab irons to keep the loose car going up-hill into the siding so the locomotive could save a 10 minute move. Accidents would cause only the modification and "safer" methods to be practiced. I miss hearing GP7's. My love was fueled by the CNW in the town I was from. Only, I chased with my five speed and a Kodak 110.

one question Larry. Where the hell is west Lorne and Rodney ? These guys got the job done in no time. What a job to have ! And what an Engine ! Those 'old' CN grain cars were cool also.

Damm that’s how switching is done. In modern day OSHA would have a heart attack if they saw a switch man doing this lol

      OSHA?? Or the FRA.
Its perfectly legal to drop cars if done the right way. But its outlawed on almost every railroad anymore.
