Smoker Design: How To Make A Pinwheel Style Damper From Scratch

  • If you want to make your own Pinwheel style damper for your smoker then this video is for you!
    In this video I will walk you through the steps of manually laying out your pinwheel style damper.
    Here's some things you'll need:
    Design and sizing:
    - use BBQPitCalculator.com to find the required opening in square inches for your air inlet.
    - use the butterfly damper calculator at this website to determine the size of the opening:

    Tools:
    - soapstone, marker, scratch awl, or other marking device
    - dividers or compass
    - tape measure
    - plasma cutter or torch
    - optional but recommended circle cutter for plasma cutter ot torch
    - drill and bit for center hole
    - grinder with a flap disc
    - file for steel

    When you use the calculator, it will give you the square inches of firebox opening you need. How do you correlate this to the openings you made in the pinwheel? Thanks

    You said you wanted feed back. You spend a lot of time explaining useful information and it’s great stuff. However when you’re explaining something that you want the viewers to see the camera man isn’t close enough or in the wrong position and we cant see what you’re trying to show the viewers.
