agree. been there several times in the 70s when only the band played and the fans were singing. you had incredible noise from 10 am on, but when a few hours later the anthem was about to start, you could hear a pin drop. then god save the queen, also sung by 100.00 and i had problems with the lump in my throat, especially the very first time. as european the empire stadium was hallowed ground....

Bit late to ask this now I know, but why the hell did this guy just put Sarah Brightman in his heading and leave out Lesley Garret, perhaps the best English soprano ever.
@edthered26 Relative to 90,000 football fans singing English football's greatest anthem, neither of them are powerful. Abide with me sounds much better either with a male singer (think Russell Watson) or just the crowd at Wembley.
Personally I don't like the idea of singers at the Cup Final, I think the National Anthem and Abide With Me sounds better when 90,000 fans sing them together, I just think the singers go really OTT with the vocals, I know that's what works in opera etc but this is football.
In my opinion both of them are good. But its a fact that Lesley has a bigger, I think an operatic voice but Sarah Brightman doesnt have it. Everyone can hear that for instance when they sing together. But I do like Sarah's voice, it is just a fact.
Sarah's voice has deteriorated to such a point that she can't even compare to Lesley. The levels of technique applied here are vastly differently, and all you have to do is listen to hear which one is stronger. :) It's such a shame this is a discordant performance.
Why is everyone talking about Sarah Brightman in this? Relative to Leasley Garrett, voice lacks power, is wobbling all over the place and doesn't even know the words.

Everyone can hear most sarah's voice, and sarah's voice is more powerful than leslie's
She has to sing in a lower key than normal so's the rest of the crowd can join in. Give her some credit.
Brightman is the better looking but Garrett is likely the better shag. Either way, good video.
