Does drive recorder subscription follow the driver or the car? I ask cause I lease my vehicles and it would be cool if I didn’t have to buy the subscription every time I get a new car.
Why so limited? 40 seconds? My 2018 Tesla S has this as standard, records constantly and can display last 30 minutes at any time or you can hit trigger and will save ten minutes before to and past the trigger. Also can be set to trigger if you hit the horn - obvious advantages.
I May be wrong but I think that the limit is due to GPDR legislation. That includes the obligation, în Europe to not Take any videos on public domein, without taking meaaures of protect the data by deleting or limit the video to minimum posible duration, or software of blurring the vehicles plates and human faces. ( that will ruin it's purpose)The feature îs not ,,for recording memorable journeys but to get prooves of what happend în a event of a crash or a road rage.

The accident itself is the trigger that starts the recording process automatically. You can manually start a recording by pressing and holding the "Panorama View" button.
Do you have to keep pressing this button to record a maximium of 40 second videos & you cant have it recoed continously for example untill you have reached the maximium capicity ?

40sec drive is too less for any meaningful recording of trip! Only useful in accidents! Provide options to insert memory stick and record hours!

@@dancolt79 Is there a way for BMW to localize this feature? It looks like in US there isn't such restriction.

Hadn’t considered GDPR … although my Tesla S was being driven in the UK, so if that is the case Tesla was ignoring GDPR (perfectly possible ofc)
I can see thru the cameras via phone. But I can't see anything on the camera's screen itself. Any pointers?

I was parked and someone backed into me would be nice if it was on when parked could have saved me a $1000 deductible.

Up to 10 recordings can be stored in the iDrive until the oldest video is deleted.

If you want a dashcam who film all Time during you drive and parking function then buy a DASHCAM XIAOMI 70MAI OMNI X200 or similar

I don't believe so. I have a 2023 X7, and am trying to find out where to download that app.
