Considering this for my m240i. Amazed BMW don’t have the wiring installed already with a usb c port behind the review rear mirror for people to just plug the camera in.
It would be much better if they had a better built in system as standard seeing how good the tech is now. This system does ideally need to be hardwired in as it needs to see a ground, power and ignition to offer its full functionality.
It’s quite difficult to do a full installation video as there is so many different makes and models. What would apply to one vehicle wouldn’t apply to another! Glad you enjoyed the review though!
Glad you liked the video. In answer to your question, it may be possible but would be a huge amount of work to do so. An area we wouldn’t be able to comment on sadly as not something we’ve ever tried.
Being completely honest, we don’t deal with the nextbase cameras so may be unfair for us to give much of a comment. The upside of the BMW camera is it retain your electrical warranty where aftermarket cameras sometimes don’t. Food for thought. 😀
Just buying a new x3 with drive recorder built in. Is the advanced eye worth having in addition so that you can continuously record and aren’t dependent on a sensor triggering recording in the event of an accident (ie maybe you capture something else dodgy happening whereby someone doesn’t actually hit your car)? My understanding is that drive recorder only records when it detects an impact. Whereas the eye records continuously so you’d be able to download footage eg from an hour ago even where there was no impact.
The drive recorder although good is limited with what it can do as you’ve just alluded to. It comes down to where you park among other factors but if it’s something you can afford to get, it’s good piece of mind to get the full dash cam.
great review thank you! I currently have the the bmw advanced car eye 2.0.installed in my BMW. How does the 3.0 compare? Is it worth the upgrade? many thanks
Thanks for the comment. The 3.0 mainly has improved recording quality and better functionality. It’s not a massive step up but a good option if your old 2.0 is starting to have issues.
I purchased a new BMW advance eye 3.0 Dashcam from BMW a couple of months back. I've just fitted it but, I need help. It's not powering up.I connected the KL30 (RED) wire to constant power, i.e. the battery terminal using a 5 amp fuse and the KL15 (YELLOW) wire to ignition power in fuse number 147 alsohavea5 amp fuse. I have good ground (Black wire also connected) to negative battery terminal. I have BMW F30 335D. Dashcam was purchased new with all the fittings associated with the dashcam. What am I doing wrong? Help, please. Hoping to hear from you.
Hello, greetings from Chile, I get to the part where you have to connect the cables, I don't know which switchboard is to add the cables. Since everything looks covered with plastic, isn't it the one in the passenger seat?
Hello, it will depend on the vehicle as all models differ. I would suggest referring back to the vehicle specific instructions to find out the correct locations.
I think from memory spec wise they are pretty similar but the biggest difference is the Pro has that screen whereas the standard doesn’t. Considering the price points, I think it’s worth paying the extra for the Pro.
I had to edit my question but I doubt the new ones any better, thank you for responding 👍 I wanted to know if if I could take it off so I could show someone the footage on the camera instead of having to let them in my car or show them on my phone using the app
@@ayaanbretmitchell9830 You can turn off the led if you wish, alternatively leave it on as a deterrent to show the scoundrel that they’re being recorded, the decision is yours.
The screen will turn off shortly after firing up. There is a legality reason in many countries that doesn’t allow a separate live screen to be showing whilst driving. LED lights will show on the top but the screen itself will turn off.
Hello, great video, thank you! I have 2 questions, when in parking mode, the G-sensor sensitivity how sensitive should be? It’s now at first level but i got videos of me just coming/leaving the car 😅 Also for driving mode, should it be continuously recording or G-sensor again? And if G-sensor, at which level? I tried today with G-sensor on level 1 and i got recordings of every bumps or holes that i passed.
It’s very much dependant on each vehicle and your personal requirements. Generally mid way is a good starting point and you can adjust depending on what the camera is picking up on. Every car and application can be different.
Yes you can have a front only camera system. You wouldn’t be able to install the rear on a convertible as not only would the cables be visible, the camera would get crushed when the roof is folded sadly.
I installed this in my 3 series but after a couple of weeks it does not record incidents when in park mode because it takes power from vehicle battery and shuts down in order to save it. is there any solution to it?
Yes that's correct and how it's meant to work. It does this to protect your vehicle battery. The only alternative is to wire it into an external battery (Like a Celllink Neo - amzn.to/3C3XeT1 )
It will yes but if the battery voltage drops too low it will stop recording any events in park mode to save the battery. You’d otherwise need to jump start the car if it kept recording.
People have asked if the app will show location data on a map whilst reviewing recorded footage. You replied to say only if the sad card is removed and used on a computer. According to the BMW infor on the app it states. When the product switches to Parking mode while connected to the ACE 3.0 app, the pictures and videos taken by the front and rear camera (optional) are saved in the ACE 3.0 app, and the location of the vehicle is displayed on a digital map (may vary according to national law). To use this feature, the product's GPS signal must be activated when switching to the Parking mode. Pictures taken by the front and rear camera and the location on the map (if the GPS feature is turned on) will be saved in the ACE 3.0 app until you use this feature again.
Hello, I have a question regarding my camera in parking mode. It seems to stop working after several uses without driving the car. Does the camera have an internal battery that loses power over time, or is it directly connected to the car’s battery to maintain power while parked? I’m experiencing an issue where the parking mode works initially, but after several uses without driving, it stops functioning. I assume the camera’s battery is no longer being powered by my Mini Cooper’s battery. Could you please let me know if this is normal? Additionally, could you provide some information on how many minutes or hours the parking mode is supposed to work without driving? Thank you!
If the camera has been wired up correctly then parking mode should work. It will monitor your vehicle battery so if that isn't in the best of health it won't last that long in parking mode. I'd suggest you go get it checked and if necessary, replaced! There is no definitive time frame given as again it depends on different factors. How much it can see, battery life etc etc.
@@Carbonwurks Hello, Hello, It’an electric véhicule Cooper SE 2020. !The Mini Cooper dealership installed the camera just a week ago, but it was their first time doing it. Do you have any advice on this issue? Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words. Sadly when the car/ignition is off, the cam will go into park/sleep mode. So you wouldn’t be able to interact with it unless it’s powered up and out of sleep/park mode.
Hi, thank you for such a good review, much appreciated. I have 2 questions: 1. Regarding the parking mode, what is the set voltage for the unit to shut down to prevent the car battery from discharging past a level that it won't start the car? 2. Is there an option in the set-up menus to alter the cut-off voltage as per some of the Thinkware cameras do (i.e. U1000 and U3000). Thank you, Keith
HI Keith! Thanks for the message. I'll be super honest in saying I can't remember as it's been a while since we filmed the video and that particular setup was sold when the car was sold so can't check at the moment. From memory however you're able to change the cut-off voltage to what you choose much like on the Thinkware systems.
How do you download files to you smartphone? On several BMW forums, they say you need Wifi connection but I couldn't find any mention of a Wifi connection in the manual.
Your phone will need to be connected to the camera via wifi to download directly to your phone. The other option is to remove the SD card and transfer files over that way.
Hi, Thank you for this video. I went to buy this camera on the BMW USA website, and the compatible list doesn't show X4 2021, but according to your video, I can still install it, right? Will I have any different problems?
You can technically install this cam into near enough any car (even non BMW). The difference is in how the cam can be connected up to the original fuse board and having specific connections for this which varies depending on car.
@@Carbonwurks hi bro, Thank you for your answer, follow the official BMW manual, I put the red wire in terminal 23 and the fuse in terminal 35, and I still have no power... would you give me a hand?
@matiasamarogonzalezcornejo43 I think it’s probably best at this stage that you consult either a BMW dealer or an experienced auto electrician to resolve these issues.
Can you connect to the camera via app if you not near the car? If not what the point of the app if you cannot access the camera from far distance? And can the camera turn on without turning the car on?
The app can only be used when in the car with the ignition on. It doesn’t have any remote access features. The point of it is to allow you to quickly and easily change settings on the camera as well as viewing footage that’s been recorded.
I noticed in the video sample of driving in sunlight that there was a large amount of reflection from the windshield. Does BMW offer a polarizing lens cover to remove this glare?
Hi, may I ask if the camera could be turned on manually when the ignition is off? I tried looking through the manual and it doesn't specify that. Also the LED is not on when the ignition is off. Just wondering if that's normal.
Normally the camera should only operate manually if the ignition is on otherwise it will go into a power down/parking mode. LED function wise you normally can turn this on or off depending on preference in the menu.
@@Carbonwurks Thank you for the response, would you be able to turn it on manually when the ignition is off? Because mine won’t turn on when the ignition is off. Thank you very much🙏
They have a park mode yes. They will record when they sense motion (someone is walking nearby) and/or when they sense movement of the vehicle (if it’s knocked or pushed).
Is it possible to connect live to the front and rear cameras via your smartphone whilst sitting at home for example, so you can monitor what's happening from another location?
@@Carbonwurks That's weird. I actually don't know how this works but my M340 allows me to take a 360 shot from built in car's cameras remotely. Also I can use my phone to start the car from a huge distance as well as locking or unlocking the doors. Somehow the car itself appears to have some kind of internet connection. For this application I'm looking for a similar camera but one that sends alerts with videos to my phone similar to ring or wyze but for the car.
You’re getting slightly confused with the built in data services within the car itself and not a dashcam. The ACE dashcam does not have a data facility to allow remote access or notifications. You’d be better served by something like a Thinkware dashcam with built in sim
All depends on the size of card, settings you choose so it’s quite a difficult one to answer. Typically you will get a few hours with two HD cameras running. But remember it’s a dashcam. It’s there to help you in the event of an accident. If you want to record things like your day out driving then you need to go for something like a GoPro.
Does it overwrite if the memory card is full (to continue recording, presumably overwriting the oldest videos first). I understand that saved videos are not overwritten
Yeah. I have a different dashcam for a different car and most cars actually require you to DISCONNECT the dashcam if you're using a usb port or something as these cars still supply power even if the car is off. However, if you have the dashcam hardwired to your vehicle, you don't need to disconnect anything since its hardwired to the battery. Just make sure to turn off the camera.
@@Carbonwurks thank for the quick response. Do you recommend any dash cam that does not need to hardwired/wireless. Like charge it with usb port and it’s good to go? any help would be appreciated
I don’t believe there aren’t any or many that are wireless, you’d have to charge it too often. Ideally a wired version is best as they can often be setup to record when the car is off or in a park mode. It’s not just the moments when you’re driving you want to capture, it’s the moments when you’re parked up where a camera like this will record from motion. A camera with a standalone battery would run out/die too quickly when not on charge.
Anyone knows what voice/sounds the car eye 3.0 pro makes when installed correctly? Mine has errors and says: Please check that the camera was installed correctly. But if installed correctly, what does it says when; Start engine, stop engine etc?
I have the same problem. as I wrote below. maybe I found the reason. this is the way to connect to power. the device can be connected directly to the battery to record motion sensor. but, then there is a risk of making the battery discharged. I have made a connection in the place where the voltage appears only after the engine is turned on. the device perceives this as the first connection and therefore asks to check the correct installation of the camera. In a couple of weeks I will try to change the connection method. If it works, I'll post the result
How does GPS info works? Does it give real time location? and will you recommend going for car eye or any other after market dashcam? I drive a G28 in India
Yes it has GPS built in and overlay’s Coordinates as you drive. If you want to stick OEM then this is a great option plus it has Thinkware tech inside (Who make their own great cameras)
Given that so many good 4K dash cams are available, does this product have any kind of special integration with the car that would make it preferable to a professionally installed third party option? My car gas the BMW Drive Recorder feature, but that has some limitations, so looking to possible complement it with a separate cam system.
This is purely a dashcam made by Thinkware and then branded by BMW as their own offering to the market. BMW offer a specific installation kit on top of the standard one in the box that is model specific (Optional extra parts). It sadly doesn’t not integrate into the BMW iDrive in any way.
@@Carbonwurks Thanks for confirming. That is a bummer. They missed an opportunity to do something well integrated. The drive recorder is ok, but has very limited storage and consequently can’t be continuously recording.
Does anyone know if the ACE app has the ability to show the location data on a map whilst viewing the recorded footage? I want to be able to see the map alongside the video like you can with many other DashCams. Thanks in advanced for any responses.
If you take the footage off an SD card and play through a computer you may be able to get location data to show at the same time but it wouldn’t be possible on a phone.
I’ve just bought a new 330i and read somewhere that it drains battery as it gets triggered even by movement detected around the car when parked, is this true? I see the white LED turning on even if I’m in the peripheral area of the windscreen.
I've had a 2.0 for just over 2 years, it does drain the battery slightly, it's always on, however drains far less than non BMW hard wired dash cam, if you do less than 60 miles a day, I would recommend you charge your battery once a week, otherwise it goes below 80% capacity and your start stop function stops working & the battery degrades faster if it's below 80%. It's already paid for it self, when it recorded an Amazon van scraping the back corner and I was able to claim through their insurance. My car is always parked on the street, I have not had any attempts at vandalism or theft either, I believe the camera dissuades any would be vandal. Anyway I strongly believe it's worth having, I'm having mine upgraded to the 3.0 Pro next week
@@Carbonwurks if you changed the minutes on motion sensors in the menu I guess if parked up in a busy place guess that would help the battery I’ve just purchased the dash cam pro for my M35 one series arriving next month
Hi…what if we leave the car idle for 1 or 2 weeks, will this dashcam drain the battery dead??? I have ACE 3.0 Pro installed and having this battery drain worry…
No it won't do this as long as it's been installed and setup correctly. The dashcam itself has an intelligent battery monitoring system so once it reaches a threshold it will shutdown to protect the main car battery.
I've had a ACE 2.0 for over 2 years, if you don't do at least 50 miles a day, I would recommend you charge your battery every 7-10 days and leave it on a trickle charge if you go away on hols
This to me sounds like an issue with the camera as you shouldn’t need to do this. It should turn off at a certain point to protect the battery when parked up!
Every time I start my car, a voice says :please check that the camera was installed correctly. Is that normal behavior? And one last question. It does not record in parking mode. When I poweroff the engine, just a beep and then noting more. I have tried to charge the cars battery. But still no parking mode. My car is an G20. What can be wrong?
Hmm strange one that. I suspect as per what the camera is saying, it’s not being installed correctly in terms of the power connections. I would check your connections or go back to your installer. Typically if the camera can’t see a switched ignition then it won’t know when to go in park mode and when to come out of it.
Hi guys. In parking mode can it drain the battery or do you connect straight to the battery? Also i listen to my tunes through Bluetooth in car. I wont be able to do that with this device. Is thst correct?
Yes it will draw power from the battery in park mode unless you have an external battery installed. The dashcam doesn’t offer music streaming or any form of media.
Hello I was wondering if you might be able to help me.. I had the ACE 3.0 fitted by bmw last week and I have already ran into some issues with it.. for a start when I am driving the the camera reverts to parking mode and the other issue we have is that display on the camera goes completely off while driving I was under the impression that the display would stay on while driving.. we used the guide on the app to set it up. Any help would be much appreciated thank you..
If it’s reverting to park mode when driving it means it’s not been installed / wired correctly. It sounds like it hasn’t got a proper ignition connection. I’d take it back to get checked over.
Thank you this was definitely our thoughts with it I would have half expected bmw to do a full test run on it before releasing it back to us but according to them they only install it and that’s it very frustrating.

Sadly we can’t give installation advice on these products, they should be professional installation only. It may be best heading to an auto electrician who can give some advice and help out local to you.
Another great feature of this dashcam is it doesn’t only use vibration sensors it also has movement detection built into the camera for parking mode 👍🏻 You don’t have to touch the car to activate parking mode just walk in the path of the camera lens 👍🏻
Absolutely, it’s a great feature for when the car is parked up and you may have someone looking around it. Capturing the moment leading up to the car being touched is just as if not more important.
@@Carbonwurks I'm hoping you can configure it to ONLY record impacts. Otherwise, every time you park in a public space where people do walk around, you're going to have dozens of videos to review and will soon start ignoring them.
I will be getting this overpriced dashcam soon since i cant install any other ones, my question is does it have a snapshot feature when capturing a image from an already-existing recording in the ace app? Thanks, great review!
I had ACE 2.0 installed on my x5 g05 and that was an absolute garbage. First of all after 10 mins driving under the sunlight the front camera was overheating and video quality dramatically dropped. Second and most important - when I selected that both front and rear camera take video, the resolution dropped to 1080 on both of them! No one was saying that in reviews on TH-cam or anywhere else. I m sure the same happens here with ACE 3.0. You as reviewer should have said that. Bmw advertising this as 2k front and 1080 rear. In reality front camera can take 2k video in case if footage is taken on front camera ONLY! I suggest everyone to avoid this piece of garbage. There are plenty of other dash cams on market that can take much better video quality
The 3 pro is significantly better than both the standard 3 and the 2. There will be limitations to any camera but this works well under most conditions. Other options are of course available, as mentioned in other comments, the main selling point is warranty with bmw for both product and integrations with the car. As a side note, us as a reviewer, not being paid or not having any affiliation with bmw can review a product how we feel best.
@@Carbonwurks well sure you can review the product as you feel the best, but then your review is very bad and does not show the real experience. It’s more like advertisement and not the real and honest review. Your choice which way to go.
Because In our “experience” we didn’t encounter ANY of the issues you described. I would be so bold as to suggest it’s a faulty dashcam or install. I’ve dealt with in-car tech and dashcam for over 10 years and I have never ever heard of a dashcam dropping quality when it got too warm. I’ve heard of thermal protection which would just shut it down. Comparing the ACE 2 to the ACE 3 is like saying the X5 G05 is going to be rubbish because the previous generation was. However, when you get your next dashcam and take the time to do a review, ping the link over and we’ll critique :) Hope you have a real good day!
@@elf_75why is this guy so mad lol people has different opinion based on situation. Not all people has same experiences as you did. I am satisfying this product. You cant blame on video creator because you experienced issue while others dont.
@@뭐하지오늘하루는 I blame him since he doesn't show limitation which this DVR have. And that is obvious, because he is installing this piece of crap and he wants to adv this product and show it only from the good sides. Real experience is different and not telling all the trues about limitation that this product has is equal to a lie.
Yes I’m normal conditions it would do but most modern day cameras now have thermal protection and will cut off if it gets too hot. In the tech specs it will provide an operation temp min and max.
$565 dollars for this is absolutely outrageous. I just installed the Viofo A139 pro dual camera system in my wife's car. 4K front and 1080p rear, phone app, etc and doesn't use old image sensor technology. This Car Eye 3.0 should integrate with idrive but it doesn't. This is just a grossly over priced Thinkware X1000 with a BMW logo. The $100 drive recorder factory option paired with a decent 4K front camera is all you need assuming you want a better front facing camera than what comes with the cars (which IMO is only good for police/insurance purposes if you're in an accident)
This camera has its place in the market and being a BMW branded product gives a good warranty compared to aftermarket products that for any reason cause a problem, may invalidate the manufacturers warranty. Depending on location in the world, drive recorder is often part of a package which can cost into many hundreds and even thousands (here in the UK at least). It’s also not available on all models. All this said, there are better cameras available but this certainly is not a bad product. Weigh up your budget and options, go with whatever you feel suits you 😀
I ponied up the US$810 option for 2024 X5 because any damage caused by aftermarket unit installation would be troublesome. I installed my 3 older BMWs with Amazon dash cams and the wirings are nowhere as clean, and the units tend to fall off the windshields on hot days. Would be nice if identical OEM cameras are available and much cheaper overall with professional installation.
That’s exactly the reason why this BMW dashcam is a great option. It’s not the cheapest but it’s a really nice put together kit that installs in an oem way.
Most models will have specific instructions for each. With a bit of research, you can normally pull the install guides directly off the BMW AWS portals.
$560 dash cam, pulse $300 dealer install if it takes 2 full hours. For nearly $800 the quality isn’t good enough. On par with $200 dash cams if im being honest. Sure the BMW integration is great but thats a hefty premium. For $800 I could buy a refurbished 512GB iPhone 14 Pro which has infinitely better video quality ( 4K 60fps ) not this 2012 potato junk.
@@CarbonwurksI think the issue is that the video quality doesn’t match the price since u can get the same for much less. Unfortunately video quality is an issue with all dashcams.
where do you live? My dealers' rate if $300/hour so it would cost $600 if the book rate is 2 hours. Edit: I called my dealer to confirm and labor alone is $1200. Apparently the book rate is 4 hours.
I am intrigued by the fact it connects to your phone via bluetooth AND WiFi. Why does it need both? Oftentimes, connecting a phone to a device by WiFi is a bit of a faff, I find. Can it do everything you need, just by bluetooth alone, do you know? Secondly, are you able to erase recordings quickly using the phone app? I am concerned about self-incrimination, should one be inadvertently stopped by His Majesty's finest, demanding to view what's on the SD card.
It uses one for the inital pairing and connection and then switches over to Wifi when viewing footage or downloading :) The recordings can be deleted via the app
It doesn’t stop Apple CarPlay from working. It’s just a few people not knowing how to use the system properly. When you connect to the camera it uses Bluetooth which carplay does also but as you’d be parked up it doesn’t matter. When you’ve checked settings or footage you would disconnect the camera and go back to Carplay.
Apple Car Play actually uses a wi-fi connection to the iPhone and that's where the problems lie connecting to the phone app, to view the recordings through the app, you have to disconnect apple car play temporarily, otherwise Apple car play doesn't affect the dash cam@@Carbonwurks
How come this camera is not compatible with any of the 2024 X5 models? Even when purchasing it online from BMWUSA under accessories it only shows the 2.0 compatible but this camera comes up compatible for all sedans. BMW G couldn't answer the question and just stated get with your dealership. A total blow off, maybe they should learn something about their products and accessories otherwise they should remove these accessories from the build of all X5,X6,X7 etc..
Did notice your tried to remove the A pillar trim without removing the air bag label then held it with your thumb to not show it broken. Also it is a hideous install. Need better cable management
No body knows how to repair. Technician will advice to buy new one after trying for 15 minutes. BMW gives 5 years car warranty but this Eye on 2 years warranty.
Not sure what element you’re referring to. It records all driving without gaps. During parking mode it will only capture events to save wasted space and power drain. Not sure where you got your facts from, it does not only store 10 seconds before an accident….
No integrtion with the Drive software, this is basically an embarrassment, ugly wiring, can't install in middle of screen, no better than after market device by 100 other manufacturers, just with a BMW price. Shame on BMW not doing proper software support, and then you have a fight over WiFi then trying to connect, when you have Carplay on iPhone which auto-connector to the CARs wifi. This is really dumb and someone needs to make a better product. Great Video and very helpfuk
I'll be honest, I've yet to find a DashCam that can integrate with ANY vehicle on that level. When we tested it out on our M4 we didn't encounter any issues with having to fight for Wi-Fi. Guess it depends on your settings? That being said, having had experience of lots of dashcams over the last 5-6 years it does a pretty good job. Remember that it's essentially a Thinkware inside. Ultimately, as long as it records a good quality image (Which it does) and captures an incident or accident then it's job done as far as I'm concerned. Everything else is just a gimmick and not needed. Glad you enjoyed the video though!
@@Carbonwurks I have it in my 640 GC great camera, having upgraded from the previous ACE 2.0. No issues it does its job, plenty of options on the screen or App. As you have stated, I only connect when I want to via the app., thus leaving Apple Carplay to connect when driving. Great review...
Why isn’t it a real dashcam? It’s a system for BMW vehicles that is actually manufactured by Thinkware? Out of interest, what would you consider a “real” dashcam? ;)

@@Carbonwurks they offer a build in dashcam which I have in my G82. Uses all car cameras to take footage automatically.

Hi, thank you for the review. Do you plan to make a video of a full installation?
It’s quite difficult to do a full installation video as there is so many different makes and models. What would apply to one vehicle wouldn’t apply to another! Glad you enjoyed the review though!
Can the Display be turned off when in the Driving Mode (might be distracting)?
It automatically turns off for that exact reason shortly after fire up.
Great video! Incoming stupid question, can gou hook these up, so the rear camera is a reversing cam? Or atleast show these on the infotainment screen?
Glad you liked the video. In answer to your question, it may be possible but would be a huge amount of work to do so. An area we wouldn’t be able to comment on sadly as not something we’ve ever tried.
Did you program that camera later in ISTA?
No programming is required for this dashcam
Yes, there is for most models. Retrofit car eye 3.0. it is in the installation manual.
very useful video, thanks mate
Glad you liked it!
Would you recommend this and using it with the BMW app or purchasing the Nextbase 622gw and rear camera instead, hardwiring it into the fuse?
Considering my options as I’ve ordered a new 120 which is due to be ready start of March 😁
Being completely honest, we don’t deal with the nextbase cameras so may be unfair for us to give much of a comment. The upside of the BMW camera is it retain your electrical warranty where aftermarket cameras sometimes don’t. Food for thought. 😀

What’s the difference between the standard 3.0 and the 3.0 pro? Thanks
No the screen can’t be removed but you can disconnect the camera away from the mount if you wanted to.
Does it have a flashing LED visible from outside when in parking mode ?
I’ll be honest I didn’t check, will find out next week and report back!
Yes when it detects movement front or rear, a white led flashes.
@@xantiaexclusive The problem with a visual led that comes on and off, especially at night, is people are going to think you're recording them.
I’m pretty sure I saw a setting where you can turn the LED off.
@@ayaanbretmitchell9830 You can turn off the led if you wish, alternatively leave it on as a deterrent to show the scoundrel that they’re being recorded, the decision is yours.
Hi, can you see live recording on the advanced 3.0 pro screen, whilst driving? Or is the screen just black when driving?
The screen will turn off shortly after firing up. There is a legality reason in many countries that doesn’t allow a separate live screen to be showing whilst driving. LED lights will show on the top but the screen itself will turn off.
Great video! Can the bmw service department install it for me??
Any BMW dealership should be able to install this product for you 👍🏻
Hello, great video, thank you!
I have 2 questions, when in parking mode, the G-sensor sensitivity how sensitive should be? It’s now at first level but i got videos of me just coming/leaving the car 😅
Also for driving mode, should it be continuously recording or G-sensor again? And if G-sensor, at which level? I tried today with G-sensor on level 1 and i got recordings of every bumps or holes that i passed.
It’s very much dependant on each vehicle and your personal requirements. Generally mid way is a good starting point and you can adjust depending on what the camera is picking up on. Every car and application can be different.
can I use this for a serie 3 e46 ? u know to get it modern
You could yes but you would need to connect the wiring in a different way as the E46 won’t have the same type of fuse board connections.
@@Carbonwurks ok
Thanks man I thought I would never get a answer
I have a 24 M4 G83 convertible, can I just use the front cam without the rear? Unless the rear cam can be mounted with the top down, I doubted it?
Yes you can have a front only camera system. You wouldn’t be able to install the rear on a convertible as not only would the cables be visible, the camera would get crushed when the roof is folded sadly.
How do you compare this to Viofo a229 pro or blackvue 4k
Sorry, we only have experience with the BMW dashcams.
I installed this in my 3 series but after a couple of weeks it does not record incidents when in park mode because it takes power from vehicle battery and shuts down in order to save it. is there any solution to it?
Yes that's correct and how it's meant to work. It does this to protect your vehicle battery.
The only alternative is to wire it into an external battery (Like a Celllink Neo - amzn.to/3C3XeT1 )
what do you mean when in park mode? like when you leave the car parked somewhere with the ignition off or when you stop at an intersection?
I'm confused, I thought you said it starts recording when it senses motion near the car, when in park mode?@@Carbonwurks
Ignition off, car is parked and you have locked the vehicle.
There you have it 😀👍🏻
Thanks for the added info.
Can you fit this in old BMWs?
Although it’s a bmw part, it’s universal in fitment so you can install this into different vehicles included older car yes.
Will this camera fit on a BMW X3 2021?
It will yes.
Hi can this be fitted to a 2017 F30 330d M sport?
It sure can 😀
Hello,
I have a question regarding my camera in parking mode.
@@Carbonwurks Hello,

It’s normally 2-3 hours.
Is there some kind of coding needed or just plug and play?
No coding required, simple plug and play 😀
Hi. Is it compatible to F01 2009 to 2015?
It can fit a 7 series yes, it just may need specific clips/fittings for the power and ground for an oem level installation.
I have the problem with ace 3.0 pro the notification is location can’t identified
May need a firmware update, hard to say what’s the issue with this one.
does it record conversations inside the car?
Yes it can do but you have the option to disable the microphone if required.
Hey buddy, great review! Would you know if you could use the app to see live footage whilst the car is off?
Thanks for the kind words. Sadly when the car/ignition is off, the cam will go into park/sleep mode. So you wouldn’t be able to interact with it unless it’s powered up and out of sleep/park mode.
Where is the motion sensor for the parking mode? does it also detect the motions on the back?
It’s built into the rear camera and yes it can do.
Hi, thank you for such a good review, much appreciated. I have 2 questions:
Thank you,
Keith
HI Keith!
Thanks for the message. I'll be super honest in saying I can't remember as it's been a while since we filmed the video and that particular setup was sold when the car was sold so can't check at the moment.
From memory however you're able to change the cut-off voltage to what you choose much like on the Thinkware systems.
Great thank you for the information.
Old message I know but I was wondering the same.
Thank you@@Carbonwurks
I liked removing SD card and plugging it into my iPhone using a reader to be the best option.
Is it compatible with the 320i G20 21/22 ?
It is yes 👍🏻
Why don't they offer an option to add a camera which integrates into the existing ICE screen?
Not many car have an ICE that can handle it. There’s an app for integration if required.
Hi, Hello, install the camera and connect the cables like the manual, and it has no power, do you have to code? bmw g82
No coding required. It’s likely it’s not connected correctly.
Buying a cheap and affordable one still does the job.
But is it bmw warranty safe?…
Can you connect to the camera via app if you not near the car? If not what the point of the app if you cannot access the camera from far distance? And can the camera turn on without turning the car on?
The app can only be used when in the car with the ignition on. It doesn’t have any remote access features.
The point of it is to allow you to quickly and easily change settings on the camera as well as viewing footage that’s been recorded.
I noticed in the video sample of driving in sunlight that there was a large amount of reflection from the windshield. Does BMW offer a polarizing lens cover to remove this glare?
Sadly they don’t but it’s a great idea! There maybe a universal one out on the market however!
Thank you very much🙏
Do these cameras work when the car is off ?
They have a park mode yes. They will record when they sense motion (someone is walking nearby) and/or when they sense movement of the vehicle (if it’s knocked or pushed).
Is it possible to connect live to the front and rear cameras via your smartphone whilst sitting at home for example, so you can monitor what's happening from another location?
No it doesn’t have a Data (3G/4G) connection or SIM Card built in.
How long can it record? I'm looking for a device to record our MINI drives.
That’s all correct 😀
Thank you!
If you're parked in a home garage for an extende time, can you just disconnect the dashcam to avoid any car battery drain?
You sure can!
I have this system, it has automatic battery sensing and shuts down after approximately 2 days, hope this helps.
Yep this is correct!
@@sonofagun5305 you have to turn the camera off each time you park or it will flatten the battery? Really?.
Is it compatible with Z4 2023?
Yep, it will work with any BMW 👍🏻

+1
join the question. same problem. every time you start this notification. how to fix!?
Get the installation done properly. It’s literally telling you to check the installation.
I had the same problem and on f11 I had to change yellow with red and it solved the issue.
@@Carbonwurks My idrive 7 doesn't get connected app here in India so will installing this help me find where my car is parked in real time?

If you removed it completely then there’s no reason why you couldn’t re-install it into another car. It’s not permanent 👍🏻
Drive recorder will likely get better with time but sadly there isn’t an immediate solution. These dashcams will bridge that gap.
The camera will always be live as it needs the sensors to operate to detect movement so in short, yes it will drain the battery with movement nearby.

Sorry, we haven’t gone for any other version. Only the genuine BMW option.
However, when you get your next dashcam and take the time to do a review, ping the link over and we’ll critique :)

Life is not always about saving money. Sometimes it's nice to have nice product that works perfect with the car and everything.
I wish they had someone showing an M2 competition installing the 3.0 pro.

Least they can do is give you a replacement unit n charge you a discount price for the unit instead of for the whole new system.
We don’t need a new one while ours works perfectly 😀
$560 dash cam, pulse $300 dealer install if it takes 2 full hours. For nearly $800 the quality isn’t good enough. On par with $200 dash cams if im being honest. Sure the BMW integration is great but thats a hefty premium.
For $800 I could buy a refurbished 512GB iPhone 14 Pro which has infinitely better video quality ( 4K 60fps ) not this 2012 potato junk.
I’m not sure the relevance comparing a dash cam to a camera but each to their own 😀👍🏻
@@CarbonwurksI think the issue is that the video quality doesn’t match the price since u can get the same for much less.
It uses one for the inital pairing and connection and then switches over to Wifi when viewing footage or downloading :)
The recordings can be deleted via the app
Only issue is you have to switch off apple play.
There shouldn’t be any technical reason why it won’t fit. It’s just a camera that needs power, ground and ignition!
Did notice your tried to remove the A pillar trim without removing the air bag label then held it with your thumb to not show it broken. Also it is a hideous install. Need better cable management
Sounds like we need to get you down to help with the install then 😀
No body knows how to repair. Technician will advice to buy new one after trying for 15 minutes. BMW gives 5 years car warranty but this Eye on 2 years warranty.
I don’t think anyone would repair one if it was broken. All the same it’s warranted like other genuine BMW parts.
Records / stores only 10 seconds before an accident / impact, due to legal issues / software restrictions... therefore: useless.
Not sure what element you’re referring to. It records all driving without gaps. During parking mode it will only capture events to save wasted space and power drain. Not sure where you got your facts from, it does not only store 10 seconds before an accident….
Wow thats the most ugly position for a dashcam.
Not even integrated in the mirrors. Amateurs
The position is as per the UK regulations. It’s exactly where it should be. Not sure how you can integrate a dash cam into the mirrors… 😂🤦🏻♂️
This still I believe is mainly for f and e séries cars, bmw is still selling those
This is the newer 3.0 Pro which is for the newer based vehicles.
The 2.0 was released around the F8X time.
Does exactly what it says on the tin :)
Just get a real dashcam lol
Why isn’t it a real dashcam?
It’s a system for BMW vehicles that is actually manufactured by Thinkware?
Out of interest, what would you consider a “real” dashcam? ;)
@@Carbonwurks he has no idea…just trolling.
I have a 200 euro camera in my bmw, does the same thing or better. This is rubish voor 800 euro.
A lot of people would disagree. You can’t put a price on keeping your car warranty safe either which the BMW system will.
Its a shame its not both 4k , we are 2024 not 2012
Realistically not many devices are true 4K, even in 2024… that’s half of the problem.
does mini also can hide the line like this?
Not entirely sure what you mean I’m afraid!
Is this compatible with F10 from 2016?
It will be yes but you will need specific connectors to integrate this correctly.
