    Hey when the turbo fails did your truck go back to running normally? Or does it stay smoking and lose power

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the failure, but most of the time you have no power and smoke . You do no want to continue running the engine , do to if your turbo blows apart then metal will be sent to your oil pan. Then your engine is also doomed. Turbo is an item that you want to plan on replacing before it goes bad . Have it checked out at a dealership or if you know how Check the bearing play , along with the blade to see how much metal loss there is and how thin the blade is becoming. And change your oil when you need i !!!! I do my oil changes around 12,000 miles .

    I have 12.7 L Detroit 60, and turbo is leaking oil on bottom side, looks like gasket on oil drain side is not good anymore, I will try to replace just that bottom gasket somehow and see is it still gonna leak, is there O ring on bottom of turbo on drain line? Or there is just gasket on drain line?

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The brand is called K&N , I bought mine on eBay 19 years ago . You can still buy them on there . I use them on my semi truck, pickup truck , street bikes , dirt bikes. I bought my first one when I was 18 years old and now I am 49 . If you keep your vehicles a long time they are a great investment due to you never need to buy another for that vehicle like you due the factory paper kind . They are all washable.

    Hey question. how much did you pay for the wiring harness you got done at the dealership ?

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  ปีที่แล้ว

      These can vary very much !! From a couple hundred to thousands!! You need to call with your vin numbers at the dealer .

    • @lincolnwilson429
      @lincolnwilson429 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok thank you. How much was the turbo or do you have a link or part number?

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I called the dealership and it was $4500 , I got the part number from them and called the manufacturer and payed $950 and $100 shipping . It cam preset for my truck . So just bolt on . Gaskets are needed so check that you have them , and new manifold bolts / nuts .

    I watch a lot of your videos but my dude you should get yourself a Milwaukee impact set ✊🏿

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Well I do own impact guns, and other special tools . But in my videos I try to do everything that I can using the most basic tools just because most people do not or can not afford to buy expensive tools. That’s something that when I look at other people’s videos using all of the top tools out I think how do you follow what someone is trying to teach you , if there is no way you can buy the special tools that they are suggesting that you need ? So for me I think let’s make it so everyone can learn !

    Hey good video question what is the adjustment for the actuator? can you send me a picture please having problems with my adjustment old owner mess with it. Thanks 🙏

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well ever turbocharger is a little different, so normally when you buy then they are set to factory specs , in saying that most of the time you still have to adjust them . Just remember not to go overboard because this can change your torx load and destroy your clutch , and universals on the drive shaft

    Thank for recording all this
    Just wondering if removing the exhaust elbow would have made things easier or even the steer tire...just a thought
    One more thing put a rubber hose on the filter housing to protect your head.
    Thanks.

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well yes and no on the tire , I used my craftsman step stool / seat to step onto the tire a frame when doing things overhead some of the time so having the tire on helps there . But having the tire off would have helped a little on the lower side . So it’s all on how you look at it .
      As for the rubber hose on the filter housing to protect the head , I’m not reaping sure where your meaning at .
      Thank you for watching and commenting !!

      I meant putting a rubber hose on the studs of the filter housing.
      And removing the exhaust elbow to give you more room to work on the turbo.

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TolaTrucking oh ok 👍🏻 well the exhaust elbow leads down a good ways connecting the exhaust. Honestly I could barely reach it the last time I replaced the exhaust under the truck due to the driveshaft . It’s a real bear to get too ! As for the stud on the air box great idea , I have got myself on them in the past , and it sure does not feel good at all !

    Do you have to get it tunes for the turbo

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you buy a turbocharger for your vehicle any store that knows what they are doing will ask you for your vehicle vin number , so when a new turbocharger comes in is will already be factory set to your truck the way it was when the truck was new . You really do not need to adjusted the turbocharger at all , and if so it’s very little . Now in saying this , if you do upgrades to your emissions system yes you will need to adjust it . If you put a turbocharger on that does not belong on your truck like a different style, then yes you will have to adjust it . But you will need a computer to plug into your truck , with a program that covers your turbocharger and vehicle, otherwise you are risking damage to your engine, transmission, and complete driveline due to changing the torque and horsepower of your engine.

    @bryanritts213 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you did the egr delete you should have deleted the factor style turbo and got the Borg Warner 171702. My 14L Detroit the biggest problem I had with it was the factory style turbo.
