    this series is great but it hurts my feeling everytime i see a shinai with its tip on the floor...

      @thecomradered 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Eric Favre I saw some old Meiji era and early 20th century pics of kendo with the fighters holding their shinais with the tip on the floor, I think it's alright as long as you do not lean on it.

      @@thecomradered seeing as you regard the shinai with the same respect as a real katana, and a real katana's tip gets damaged by putting it on the floor, I'd say best to avoid it anyway.

    imagine holding one sword in your mouth, that would add one more dimension of possibilities 🤔

    isn't Kiyoshi Yoshimochi, soke of niten ichi ryu, an 8th dan in kendo?

      Niten Ichi Ryu is super complicated and fractured.

      @@MCShvabo right but yoshimochi sensei was made soke of the two main branches.

      @@Bigboss5 I would argue that Takenori sensei's line is as legit as his.

    Isn't that two sword fighting just like European sword fighting, fighting with sword and dagger?

    • @jaketheasianguy3307
      @jaketheasianguy3307 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      nah, i don't think european considred dagger = sword. The dual wielding style of the japanese use a katana and a wakizashi ( short sword) while a tanto is what we should considred a dagger

    • @davidbarnwellutech4663
      @davidbarnwellutech4663 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaketheasianguy3307 Yeah, but aren't the principles quite similar? Longer sword wielded with a smaller sword or dagger? I've seen folks demonstrate Musashi's techniques and what they demonstrate looks awkward, at best. I'm thinking tht what Musashi (or any actual sword fighting person) used would have to be at least as functional as the European sword and dagger combination.

    • @jaketheasianguy3307
      @jaketheasianguy3307 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@davidbarnwellutech4663 nah, mate. Niten Ichi ryu techniques use katana and wakizashi, a primary slashing/cutting weapon
      The only functional dual weilding style i found in European martial arts is rapier and dagger, both are primary thrusting weapons.
      Yea, the principle is the same, parry with one and attack with the other but the techniques between these 2 styles are far from identical

      +みょうだばかお There is proper kendo then there is competition kendo. Competition Kendo is very much a sport with rules and points.
