Whisky.com tastes the Maker's Mark Red Seal. This famous Kentucky Straight Bourbon with its high wheat ration in its malt is very mild and mellow.
Nose:
Sweet, vanilla, honey, caramel, toffee
Taste:
Honey, slight fruitiness, mouthwatering, oak, becomes drier

Maker's Mark is a great bourbon. You can drink a lot and wake up feeling more or less baseline and NOT hungover which is the sign of a good quality whiskey.
I watch this again every time I get a new bottle of Maker's Mark. I love the whiskey and the way this guy talks about it, makes it seem even better.
I've come back to this video so many times and do the same with other bourbons and a few other reviewers. Ralfy is one of my favorites as well.
Opened one bottle today which I bought several years ago. Surprised the taste after 16years old single malt Lagavulin.
His accent and his voice coalesce to bring an altogether relaxing audio. I rather enjoy unintentional ASMR. My first time on his channel. Ready for some more.

That's a spillover from German, vanilla in German is simply "Vanille", but it is pronounced "Wanille" (with regional exceptions).

The grain bill for Maker's Mark is 70% Corn, 16% soft red winter wheat and 14% malted barley. It's aged in a medium toasted white oak barrel for 3 years.

I thought the same thing. I like how his voice is much louder and more patient in explanation. Ralphy and Horst are the guys I look for in experience tasting.
I'll put Horst ahead of Ralfy, but not by much.
I am a big fan of Horst, and I'm afraid not so much of Ralfy. Also worth watching the Whiskey Tribe's videos. They do a lot of crazy stuff, but the reviews and information are on point too.

+110694239707675297949 Anything else ever made? Have you ever tried a bottom shelf bourbon whiskey...let's say old grand dad and compared it to Makers? There is a huge difference in drinkability. There are better bourbons out there, but makers is pretty darn good.

Got into whiskey a few months back. I've been drinking Makers Mark for quite awhile; but it never occured to me to genuinely TASTE it.
I have to say, this old review holds up rather well.
I've been drinking the 46 and can definitely vouch that it's one of the smoothest Whiskeys out there

Nicely done, great review. I just purchased a bottle of this red label Maker's Mark this afternoon and was on sale, in Florida, for $23......I agree with you, its a very nice bourbon.
I think this is one of the few bourbons that has a scotch like smoothness. Most of them are very unsophisticated with big deep flavours full of character with a sweetness in the background. I like that wild spirit Bourbon has no other whiskey brings, but there is a reason scotch is king. If you want to experience Rebounds of Bourbon and Scotch in the same bottle this is it.

Had my first sip of Knob Creek Ks bourbon( in sweden). It is my second bottle. M.M red top was my first. Wow what a difference between the two. Both are lovely IMO, better than any european whiskys I had before. Smell; Makers smells Vanilla KC smells like Irish Whisky. Taste. M.M is increadible..K.C smells like the best Irish whisky I've had. The finish; M.M long and robust. Strong and pleasant down the throat. K.C increadibly smooth..No taste at all but so gentle and sippable..,my wife preferred Knob Creek but I will have Maker's for Christmas

Maker's Mark and Maker's 46 are my go to bourbons lately. From original Maker's I get the notes of vanilla, spice, oak and caramel and also a definite hint of cherry in the nose. From the '46' I get all those notes but also a toasted bread adding to the complexity.. quite delicious imo.
What's amazing about MM also is that they managed to become an emblematic American icon in a relative short amount of time. I think the label says something like 1954, which when you talk about a distillery, is pretty recent.

I would take Maker's Mark over Jack Daniels or Johnny Walker Black Label anytime.

Ah, Maker's Mark, it may be my favorite. I like the smoothness that the summer wheat brings to the taste. Many whisky's are a bit too spicy for me from the rye, Makers uses a high percentage of corn (70%) and no rye. I like it very much. I have also had a bottle of the 46 and its a bit spicy for me. Perhaps my taste needs to mature a bit? Love the quality of the bottle. Thanks, another nice review. I take it you are German? I spent many nice years in Germany, Schweinfurt in particular, while I was serving in the Army and have a very memory of Bayern and Germany and a whole. Thanks!

This is by far the best bourbon I've ever had. My house always had a bottle decorating a shelf.

It is quite nice. I prefer Blanton's single barrel myself, but makers is in my glass right now. Makers is very nice and carries a kinder price tag than Blanton's.

In Australia Maker's Mark is 40% and it's trash. Bulleit Bourbon is much better in that price bracket.

Yeah, you going to go on about how "smooooth" it is... lame. Canadian whisky sucks 99% of the time due to its lack of flavour development and overall shittiness. Try some sherried speyside. Heavily prayed islay or deeply oaky bourbon. Not "crown and ginger" Crap Royale. Words from a canadian!

Like most bourbons I like to open it up get a glass and come back to it in a couple weeks unscrew lid and find a much gentler bourbon

I have just begun to enjoy bourbon whisky. I tried buffalo trace and enjoyed this very much - but makers mark I find bolder and lighter and more alive - so far it is my favorite - recently I tried Knob Creek aged 9 years but I found it harsh heavy and biting

@Valdis4418 many people when they taste wisky's they taste supermarket ones where most of them are very young and not matured enough. that is the reason why many people don't like the taste. try Lagavulin 16 or even a 12 YO Aberlour (very easy drinking). i have a Glendronach 18 sherry cask here with me. At that price you probably will never buy it. but i am pretty sure once you tried it you would probably not say that again. try climbing to this ones around 12 YO they are all between 35-60€ they are totally worth it.

Greetings Horst, love your TH-cam channel. It's now 2022 and I'm late to the Maker's Mark tasting and review. I lost my liking for bourbon in my youth, drinking (and expelling) Jack Danials Old #7. I happened upon Maker's Mark while on holiday two years ago and was pleasantly surprised with its smooth flavor. I appreciated your review because what you tasted is what I tasted as well and that is what has kept me a loyal fan of Maker's Mark. I've been playing catch-up on your other tastings. I've already found several other whisky's I'd like to try. Thanks!

Could you please write is there a huge difference between this (45) and 40% Maker's Mark. And if there is, would you kindly tell us about them. Thank you in advance. The Maker's Mark is my next bourbon on the list to taste it, before it I've tried Jim Beam, Wild Turkey (40%), Four Roses, and some of less famous brands. Jim Beam is my favourite so far, so could you maybe compare Maker's Mark 45% to Jim Beam 40%? Cheers!

I have not yet found a bourban i like more than this. Got a few on the way to see if they top it, but mm and mm46 are smooth, flavorful, strong, and even a little oily. Some reminicence of scotch I agree.
Makers Mark twenty two quid in Morrisons but now twnety eight quid because it has a knitted pullover on! I don't think they're selling much.

This was the first bottle of alcohol I purchased, and i have foolishly ruined it for myself forever... can't even look at it without feeling sick. Perhaps one day I can return to it, but for now, laphroig will have to suffice...
Why do i get the feeling this guy enjoys his makers with liver and fava beans? Can someone please check to see if that is his real face and not a mask made of human skin! Makers is pretty good bourbon but this guy creeps me out a little.
new to whisky, but i tasted maker mark along with you. it was rather intense in the mouth, as if my gums and tongue were being punched by the alcohol. I suppose this intensity is mainly brought fourth by the +5 abv.. Very smooth finish, perhaps the mouth burn almost distracts you from witnessing a gnarly finish. spot on with the notes you examined however :)

Just bought a bottle. Different, strong flavor, tasty and surprisingly easy going.
although its 90 proof, if I remember its smooth and neat and you can drink it on the rocks.😂
