Just installed on 2023 4Runner Limited. The main difference is the left side of the center panel that has to come off isn't just the trim piece over the left edge. In mine, the whole center panel had to come loose. I grabbed the very bottom left rear corner (black textured plastic) and pulled hard with a plastic hook tool, though good strong fingers might work. Other difference was the mounting hole was occupied by what might be something to do with auto high-beams or auto-on/off headlights. I just used the bottom hole and used the other two slots on the controller so it was above the bracket when mounted. It was much easier to remove the lower panel entirely, but getting that hood release reconnected was fussy. I didn't buy that mounting bracket. $27 ($41 with shipping) is robbery! That bracket should be included in the box for any install. I bent a piece of 1/16" steel I had lying around and used it. I used 1/4-20 bolt and nut for the bracket to the 4Runner and pop rivets for the controller to the bracket, but I think #6 machine screws would work. I didn't have any #6 screws but I had pop rivets. I wasn't going to disconnect the battery, but when I saw I was working near a knee air bag, I pulled that negative battery terminal right off!
Similar experience on a ‘24 Off Road Premium. After I completed the process, I did not see the head control unit light up when I started the car. I was concerned that maybe I didn’t select a proper ground location. However, when I connected to the trailer, I did get the proper LED functions. So I’m thinking I’m ok. Does your LED light up without trailer attached? Thx
10/10 instructions. Like some others have said, there are a lot of instructional videos out there. Hardest part was cleaning up the wires…. Or not having someone to hold a flashlight for me. Thank you!
I have a 2022 4Runner and this was a perfect step-by-step guide that made it easy and straight forward. My only deviation was the mounting area upper slot was already taken by an electrical unit, so I changed the mounting bracket to the opposite side and mounted to the lower hole which worked perfectly. I've done many You Tube install guides, and this was the best one yet. Many thanks,
Which harness did you use? I installed a tph-021 on my 2022 and it won't calibrate. I checked the website and it says to use harness tph-025 and splice it with the jumper harness that came factory with the 4Runner. Trying to find a solution to my issue as I installed exactly as directed in this video
@@two_legit1832 I purchased exactly the parts from this video, with the only issue what I described above. Calibration can be tricky as I do find the green/blue blinking lights to be a little confusing in determining if the system is calibrating or not. I did have an issue once where I could not determine if it was calibrating since the blinking went on for a long time. The instructions do say it can take a while on the first couple calibrations then the system fine tunes itself.
@@surf2trails Yea, there seems to be conflicting info from REDARC regarding these harnesses for the newer Runners. I don't have any lights blinking at all indicating calibration. I just have a solid blue light. It's a bit frustrating that REDARC says to use the universal harness TPH-0025 on 2018+ models in conjunction with the factory supplied jumper harness due to the diode that is factory installed on the newer models. Yet I see others using the TPH-0021 that I installed as well and not having any problems. It's quite confusing.
Just installed on a 2024 4Runner. Great Video! This video is part of why I purchased this unit. They are clear that this video goes through 2021, but it works for a 2024. I just wanted to echo what @dougmitchell7194 said. -The hole for mounting the main unit was used for a wiring harness, but his suggestion to move the bracket worked fine. -Same with removing the center dash piece. Rather than just the left side, the whole thing with both sides came off in one piece. -On mine the adjustment switch couldn't be installed in the dash if pre-assembled. I had to put the dash insert piece in 1st, then add the adjustment unit from the back while the dash panel was still loose. Thanks for the video!
Did this install on my '24 4Runner ORP today. Was a simple 30min install, Hardest was removing the hand nut 🤣. Thanks for vehicle specific wiring harness and simple instructions.
Thank you! Installed on a 2022 4 Runner. Only difference was a connecting terminal (unused) was in the mounting hole for the bracket. Pulled out the terminal, good to go!
Why are 2019-2021 not listed as compatible years for the replacement plug? Can you confirm it will fit on a 2021? I don't want to pay shipping a 3rd time if it wont fit. The universal one that comes in the tow pro elite has the 2021 listed but isn't compatible
Great video, thanks for producing it! I now know I can easily do this myself but I have 2 questions. 1. Will this work on a 2022? 2. Is there a way to test the brakes? I am used to a slider or a button to test and/or engage the trailer brakes independent of the vehicle brakes. Can you push the knob to engage the trailer brakes? Thanks!
Can you tell me if there is an available jumper harness and insert for A 2020 4Runner limited? Also is it necessary to hook up A separate fuse? Part # if available for this vehicle would be great.
Thanks for watching, Chris. We do have a brake controller selector tool on our site which advises that the TPSI-002 and TPH-021 are suitable for your vehicle. Find out more at redarcelectronics.com/collections/all/toyota-4runner-2014--current-esi4700138
@@REDARCElectronicsWhy is REDARC recommending TPH-0021 for 2018 and newer models when on your website in the FAQ section y'all recommend to use TPH-0025 in conjunction with Toyotas factory supplied jumper harness since the unit won't calibrate due to the diode in the factory tow package. Thanks for watching! The included cable is 3ft long, if you need a longer cable we have them available at www.redarcelectronics.com/us/trailer-brakes/tow-pro-accessories

Ok, how do you install the ground to the side of the vehicle, it’s impossible to access! It’s too tight to get in there to turn with socket wrench
