    If the Bed of Chaos arena bottom and the top of Duke's Archives are the vertical edges of the world, this would put the center between these two edges at around (-50). This is pretty close to the bonfire of Firelink, but the center level might be closer to the giant crow perched above Frampt. The crow who "chooses" you at the start is approx. the vertical center of Dark Souls.
    I'm curious what the furthest points of Dark Souls horizontally are.

      Had a quick squiz at the map, so don't have coordinates with me, but eyeballing it, it is either the ash lake dragon or the top of one of the two giant slippery horizontal crystals in the crystal cave. If you count separate areas, it's the back end of Artorias' arena.

    Being a Cartographer back in the old days of Lordran must have been a Nightmare, having to chart that vertical hellhole of a Land
    though I guess the vertical aspect of it is what made the games world so interesting and branched out in the first place...
    I always wandered how Lordran looks from the outside world, I mean when you peek down from Undead Burg there seems to be literally a giant chasm or at least a vast expanse of lower lying planes, surrounding it, almost as if the entire place sat on either a giant Mountain or was some kind of Island floating in a cloudy, turbulent sky
    We know Drangleic is an Island and Dark Souls IIIs Lothric has visible shores and what seems to be either a big Fjord or a large Lake so at that point the place is on sea level...
    did the waters rise over the centuries or is it like with the fire that the waters flood through and swallow the land in cycles, leading up to all the buildings and civilizations being swept up at the end of the world were we are again at a large cloudy chasm...? Is this the result of the Age of deep Waters, that Aldrich predicted? Water seems to be associated with the Abyss in some way, not only do the Abyss creatures spread this strange liquid around but many of the Civilizations swallowed by the Abyss seem to sink into an undefinable marsh, like Ooclacile, Farron or the Ringed City..., the Dark Chasm of Old that Darkdiver Grandal protects is also partially filled with water...
    Is the planet of that world a disk? Why I just cannot put my finger on it
    still fun to speculate though

    • @mes0gots0its
      @mes0gots0its 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming hydras (a descendent of the Immortal ancient dragons) do have to eat, they probably consume the big clams and stray mushroom people or something.
      The clams evidently eat people and/or bones, and the mushrooms probably gain nutrients through some sort of absorption process since they're fungi. Kind of a neat food chain when you think about it.
      Of course, this all assumes these creatures even have to eat and aren't sustained through some magical force. You never can be sure about the world's fundamental laws in Dark Souls.

    This means that if a minor erdtree was growing out from the bottom of Blighttown, the top of tree would be higher than the bell tower.
    This also puts into perspective how easily the big erdtree dwarfs the archtrees of Dark Souls.

    • @iamMildlyUpsetWithMostOfYouTub
      @iamMildlyUpsetWithMostOfYouTub 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    • @watchfulwanderer6443

    • @mes0gots0its
      @mes0gots0its 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JoeyCentral That's fun speculation. I imagine there would be a war between Gwyndolin's/Kaathe's/Frampts forces, and the progenitors of the Golden Order. The forces in Anor Londo would hold strong for a while, but eventually the influence of the Greater Will would likely recruit enough forces outside the walls to lay siege, perhaps engage in some subterfuge (maybe resulting in a Seathe-style betrayal again?), and eventually take over the capital city.
      From there, the Golden Order, Elden Ring, and finger envoys would be established, a new empyrean god chosen, and the natural laws of the world dictated by Light, Dark, and Disparity would be replaced with a system more akin to what we see in the Lands Between i.e. eternal life via Erdtree Burial.

    • @oskardirlewanger6083
      @oskardirlewanger6083 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      All this shows me is how great Dark Souls’ design is and how terrible Elden Ring’s is. Dark Souls made the archtrees seem horrifically massive with the environment and ambiance, while all Elden Ring has going for its tree is the modern hardware and the literal size of the tree, and the erdtree still seems small because of how bland and boring Elden Ring’s world is.

    • @Pantagana
      @Pantagana  2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      The bonfire in the painting is at the coordinates -25, 52, 945. If I teleport to those coordinates while in Anor Londo, the Painted World will load in.
      The highest point in Asylum is 212.3 m.

    • @mes0gots0its
      @mes0gots0its 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Every level in Dark Souls is all in the same world space; the ones that aren't near you or are separated by a warp just aren't fully loaded in at that time.
      So despite Asylum and Painted World being separate "instances" so to speak from the rest of the connected world, they are still sitting there somewhere in the world map, invisible, unloaded, and inaccessible other than by warp. Thus they too share the same coordinate system.

    Great video! Please do another one with the horizontal boundaries! 🙏
    A question, though: how much of these in-game measures are accurate, according to the lore (misplacements, etc)? I always though the deepest area of the main game would be Ash Lake.

    • @Pantagana
      @Pantagana  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      When you see some areas of the map that are far away (for example looking at Duke's Archives from Anor Londo), you see a low detail version of them which is most of the time further away than the actual part of the map when it loads in. illusory wall explains in his out of bounds exploration videos that this is to make the world appear bigger than it actually is. So according to the lore, the distances would probably be bigger than the actual in-game measurements.

    • @Pantagana
      @Pantagana  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I didn't include maps that were separated by loading screens. The DLC map should be at the same elevation as Darkroot Garden, but it's actually 300 meters below according to in game coordinates.
      The start is at -329.3 m, Gough's tower is at -313.4 m, and Manus is at -576.8 m.
      So according to in game coordinates, it is the lowest point, but if Royal Wood is adjusted to match the height of Darkroot, Manus would be around 216 m below Firelink Shrine.

      Gough's tower -313.4 m
