Wow, so between the Frigid Outskirts and the Old Chaos, Crown of the Ivory King contains both the lowest point in the game and the literal lowest point in the game!
@@AutistiCat2406 how is an empty snowy wasteland with 2 enemies and even less loot, infested with infinite strong mob that follow you around, all with absolutely no visibility fun?
@Papa Frita the execution is terrible, yes, that's why we hate it. How can you see it as "blindlessly" hating on it? It's a very conscious and focused hate
I loved how you gave elevation stats for each drop down Majula's pit and the Brume Tower. That was an excellent way to emphasize the game's journey downward to the Black Gulch and the Fume Knight respectively. The leap from the top of Shulva to the bottom was likewise great for showcasing the sheer verticality of the level in one go. Also, the fact that Things Betwixt and the (introductory) Shrine of Amana are positive and negative values of nearly the same number really makes each feel more mystical and, in the latter's case, creepy. It's interesting how two other key locations, the Throne of Want and the doorway before the Old Chaos, likewise use some form of six meters in height. It's almost like a height-based leyline, though this is probably a coincidence, especially looking at the state of DS2's world design overall. Thanks again, Pantagana!
Ah yes, DS2. The wondrous scenarery. The awe-inspiring locations. The memories. The beautiful, Post-Traumatic Memories. Thank you for providing this information, especially the fall distance for the Old Chaos.
Huh, they're much more consistent than I expected. it's still weird to see that the iron keep and the dragon peak are at kinda the same height but the latter seems to be 20'000 meters higher haha
They wanted to make the distances and height differences appear greater than they actually are, without making us ride an elevator for half an hour. It's the same as in Dark Souls 1. When we see places in the distance, they are just low detail versions of those maps. The actual map that loads in when we get there is often closer.
@@Pantagana True, an elevator would have been excruciating. I mean, the abyss is a much worse offender; Why is it even called that when izalith is much lower? But games are games, let's pretend the abyss is endlessly deep and the dragon peak is high up among the clouds
@@eliteclasswarrior94 To be fair to the Abyss, the spiral staircase in New Londo feels like it goes on for a while, and the drop through the Abyss proper adds another great distance. We also know that Ash Lake is lower in general, and the Abyss is named more for its nature in regard to the Dark than for its elevation. The real surprise is how low Lost Izalith is in the game's coordinates in comparison to Ash Lake.
@@nightscout9979 i think izalith’s location could make a bit of sense if you interpret the bigger tree roots laying about as archtree roots which would naturally be below the archtrees, i know atleast some of them are BoC’s roots but still

Oh wow, I was way off with my guess for the Undead Crypt fitting though somehow that the Chaos pit would be so deep down interesting that the DLC maps all seem to be on similar hight, I mean It´s probably since they are not physically connected to the rest but I would have assumed Shulva to lie lower then the Gulch
My favourite game. Thanks for making this. Time for me to farm enough Twinkling Titanite to fully upgrade all armours. (I used to kill a certain invader 1000 times to see if he dropped a particular +2 ring.)
I think part of that is that the game creates the illusion of the towers being taller than they really are by placing them on top of mountains. When you look around, you see a stupidly tall tower on top of a stupidly tall mountain, but you never travel below the base of the tower, so the mountains don't actually add to the verticality of the playable space.
Thousands of hours in DS2 and all it takes are the tippy taps of the character's feet and little clinks of their armor to make me want another playthough. Perhaps in this armor with the broadsword as well.
@@Pantagana If I could make mods I'd make a new background for harvest valley, put the earthen peak windmill embedded in the side of a volcano (or now partially encased due to lava spillage from above), with a visible rivers of lava on the sides of it, that way the elevator would take you to the top of the volcano, where Iron Keep is in its crater (it was once dormant before the kingdom sunk)
