I will never understand how this film wasn't nominated for an Oscar for best cinematography because it was amazing! Daniel also deserved a nomination for his portrayal of Lauda
I can't even understand it either. Usually only films that also have a certain cultural depth win the Oscar, but, after the victory of "The Lord of the Rings" with hobbits. elves & co, it's not like that anymore. So Rush could easily win some Oscars. At least one Oscar for Bruhl for Lauda's performance and one Oscar for the sets. However the Oscar is assigned by an elite of 70 - 80 people who represent only themselves. I have learned to ignore those who win the Oscar.
Absolutely,Hemsworth was also really good als James Hunt, the guy isn't just a pretty boy who can swing a hammer in the Marvel movies, afterall, he can actually act. Overall, amazing movie, from the cinematography, the acting, the dialogue etc. That ending scene with both of them, meeting on the airport ,was superb. ''See on the race day, champ.'' ''Oh, you will champ.''

If hunt and lauda interests you check out the documentary on the same season Rush is based off of. just type in "hunt vs lauda" in youtube. its really stunning how much real footage and word for word interviews are used in Rush
Bruhl deserved an Oscar for his portrayal of Lauda. The unusual appearance, both before and after the accident, the accent, the mannerisms, and the brusque to the point of rudeness personality-- all captured with uncanny accuracy.
As a long time F1 fan, I was expecting a disaster when I first heard it. But it blow me away. Very very good movie. Amazing how much the actors look like the real deal.
they didnt just look like the real deal, they had accents down to the real deal, if you youtube james hunt interview, and you watch this movie, its almost the same, same with niki,....the thing which makes this one of the best racing movie of all time is because of niki, after that accident which almost costed his life, he was back racing less then 2 months,

Ferrari made Hunt forfeit two races (Brands Hatch and Monza) and the Ferrari 312T was the better car. The McClaren was good but the Ferrari was the best.
That was such a good movie. This was one of those stories I heard a lot about growing up from my dad but never saw or heard much about it bc they didn’t show any documentaries on it here in the US. The only F1 stuff was from early 80s n on.
Back in the 70s in US, my dad had to call news stations to find race results. Went to Watkins Glen gp and was the first time he saw the actual colors of the cars! News coverage in US was nil.

As an American Race Driver, drivers like Senna, Hunt, Lauda, Prost, Schumaker, these guys were my idols. I have always wanted to drive in Indy or F1 but I don't have the talent and I'm the wrong size, but I will always think these guys were the greatest of their generation and this film Rush was an amazing job at showing off an amazing F1 rivalry
Hey man, not sure if you'll see this but, I definitely wouldn't say you "don't have the talent" to be in IndyCar or even F1, at least not until you have tried absolutely everything to get there. Take care ✌🏼☀️...
Ron Howard is a genius. This looks like the best film since Grand Prix (Frankenheimer) and LeMans (McQueen). Howard is no 'Opie' or "Richie Cunningham" ; he's a wizard, he's a master at creativity.
Thank you for sharing this. Very good movie, great actors that are so close to the actual persons. Kudos to Ron Howard and his crew for making it. Great job to recreate how it was in those days. Not just recreating, telling the stories with the original cars and great actors.
I just saw the film , never wanted to watch it being a avid F1 fan because I thought no one could capture motor racing truely, as in past films . Boy was I wrong, this is a mind blowing film that played even like the days I had on the track , it makes Spielberg films look like 60s sitcoms.

Many are complimenting Bruhl's performance and I agree. He deserved an Oscar nomination at the least but Chris Hemsworth did a fine job as Hunt too. I can't think of any other actor who could've pulled it off. Both were fantastic. Another spectacular Ron Howard movie.
Definitely a standard, if not THE standard, for movies about Formula One racing. Hell of a lot better and far more realistic than Driven (If you haven't heard of that movie, don't feel bad...Stallone should have stuck to boxing!). Ronnie has always been able to find that cinematic diamond in the rough, and he hit paydirt here.

He is now a family man thou and all the young boys are "just athletes" and social media darlings..
this movie was insane. Daniel Brühls portrayal of Lauda was on point. Hemsworth aswell just portrays Hunt like he was still here. Hemsworth not only looks a lot like Hunt in the Movie he also Acted so much like him. both of them show the story of the 1976 season so well. it felt like you were there
A lot of comparisons get made of "Rush" to the 1966 classic "Grand Prix" which is honestly not fair to both... They are the same sport of basically almost two generations of F1 that almost cross, but you can't compare the two as one was produced and shot in the era that was the 60s... As the other is a modern film set in the 70s. And, with the help of modern computer toys... Ron pulled "Rush" off very well especially since he didn't soley rely on CGI for the race scenes and somehow got the original cars which alone helps add to its authenticity. "Rush" told a true story very well, while "Grand Prix" told a good story period. Both are great, but it's not fair to compare the two.
Lauda said in an interview that the crash scene was not the worst shock for him, because he had already watched the original video a lot of times over the years. The real shock was watching the hospital scenes, all those so hard treatments he had to go through: he explained that, while he was living that all, he was too much focused on surviving and overcoming it; and only when he saw "himself" from the outside he really realized how hard his recovering had been and after the premiere he had a sleepless night and nightmares...
I can imagine, Howard really went full bore with those hospital scenes. It was quite the shock to me when i watched it. He did a good job capturing the visceral nature of what Lauda had to go through in those hospital treatment sessions.

Superb movie the only reason it did not get 3 Oscars(acting, music, photography) is because of the lack of F1 knowledge in the USA. Hamilton movie will be made for sure once he ends his career, apart from the driving and his childhood poverty the racism he has endured has shocked me, he must be the only British sportsman that the public has not got behind when he has been successful. When you ask why it's always "I don't like his personality" and when you ask for specifics there never are any. Hamilton's treatment by some of the public are one of the few times I have ever been ashamed to be British.
F1 racing got nearly zero coverage in North America during the 60's 70's 80's etc, because the people in charge of Television Network sports were and still are a bunch of EMPTY-HEADED JACKASSES who think silly contrived games played with balls of various sizes is about as exciting as it gets. We got the Indy 500 and Daytona 500 yearly and that was about it for televised Auto Racing.(Watkins Glen GP was ignored annually) I think the America networks ABC, NBC and the lowly CBS ignored real road racing because it made American Oval races seem excruciatingly boring in comparison to Road Racing, which of course it is. ... a race where there are only banked left-hand turns is easy compared with Grand Prix...that's why Jim Clark and Lotus Won so easily in 1967. 'Pikes Peak'...Great Stuff... but never televised as far as I know.
Shame really, especially when F1 has venues like Monaco, you just can't beat that combination of scenery and danger. You've given me a better understanding as to why F1 never really caught on in North America.
I remember that in the early days of Formula 1 some drivers would tape a spanner to the steering wheel as they might need it to get themselves out of a crashed car. Jackie Stuart said it was a risk you had to accept if you drove.

... a race where there are only banked left-hand turns is easy compared with Grand Prix...that's why Jim Clark and Lotus Won so easily in 1967.
Much respect to the writer direction cinematographer and the film crew.....
