The movie is based on the 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

I don't care what the Academy says, Rush was the best movie of 2013.
Wolf of Wall Street came out that year, barring that movie I'd agree.
Underrated movie.
Very much so Ron Howard has always done a good job, and with such a legendary story it should have been oscar (nominee at least) amterial. But I think there was too much testosterone and not enough of a celebrity circle jerk to get it in.

Rush was definitely an Oscar worthy movie and Chris & Daniel both deserved an Oscar for their amazing acting. It’s unfortunate it didn’t happen.
Also I’ve noticed People don’t give Chris enough credit for the work he put in to sound like hunt who had soft, airy voice with posh British accent in opposition to his own heavy resonant voice with an Australian accent. He was so good that even the hard to impress Lauda was impressed with his performance of James Hunt.
He really deserves a lot of appreciation for it. I’m happy the interviewer pointed it out.
I couldn't agree more with Ron Howard. I'm really not a fan of formula one, but when I watched the movie I was so amazed by Brühl's and Hemsworth' s performances - just an awesome movie. Not really about F1 but about rivalry and friendship.
Is funny because both Chris and Daniel are beautiful in their own way, but Daniel is definitely my kind of man. Brilliant movie!
bruhl is more boyish and boy next door, plus he's a very good actor

lol i wasnt the only grown ass man tearing up at the end. oh man.. some quotes will stay with me forever. Bruhl deserves an oscar for his role here... but of course its overshadowed by oscar season pickings. also like fight club, itll become a cult hit when more ppl realize its not really about F1.

on an english keyboard you'd have to use alt codes to get letters with accents, it's a hassle. no one is going to bother with it.
I see, but in this case he should have typed "Bruehl", which is a proper alternative for "Brühl", if no "ü"-key is available. In case of need the Umlaute "ä", "ö" and "ü" can be substituted with "ae", "oe" and "ue" (It's not the same in the phonetical sense, but these are indicators to let one know what is meant. If you don't type or wright it that way, you will easily be misunderstood.
Examples:
"Masten" means "masts"
"mästen" means "to fatten"
"Schlosser" means "locksmith"
"Schlösser" means "palaces"
"schwul" means "gay (homosexual)"
"schwül" means "muggy [weather, room, ...]"
and so on.

Just rewatched this due to Lauda's passing - RIP Niki - Bruhl spent time with Niki and went to his funeral too. If you watch videos with Lauda they got this pretty close.

Do't know why, but this is one of the very few films I'd watch again.
Chris voice is so deep its amazing how he change it for rush, no one put that much attention to it, l rather see rush than gravity and l gave all the awards to Daniel and Hemsworth instad lupita and Leto.

I loved it too,and I would also recommend ˝Senna˝ ,it's a documentary about him but also shows a lot of back scene dealings in F1.

Great movie! Brühl was very intense, but for me, Hemsworth was the big surprise. Never saw him as a character actor. "Rush" changed that.

When I first heard that Daniel Brühl would play Niki Lauda, I was like... mehhh... but *holy shit*!!! You can not even imagine an actor playing this character any better! Not a Fan of Daniel Brühl - but he was (without any doubt) absolutely AMAZING!

ADORED that movie, amazing EVERYTHING.
Prost vs. Senna would be cool that was a totally different rivalry, they didn't have so much friendliness between them, as this two XD.
Too much a different and tragic story... I guess a movie about them would end with Prost's retirement as reigning world champion at the end of 1993 season, because this actually was the end of rivalry between them... And the last scene should be Senna saying "I have other seasons to race... I'm gonna win other championships and seize the chance to equal Fangio as you were unable to..." The movie ends and everyone knows what happened next... And you go out of the theater with that bad feeling of Doom hanging over your head... No, a so tragic story is not suitable for a movie. F1 is made of people who challenged Death, but someone escaped him and someone lost against him... And there is only one who WON against him and that's why he could become a movie hero, the others are just...men. Great, crazy, brave and talented men, but just men.
yeah. well I agree he's a hero (if that's what you're saying) but it would still be cool for a movie, I'm a senna fan admittedly and it would be cool if the whole base of the story would be not so much about him dying at the end but him becoming something much more than just another one of those men who won, lost and died in F1. so it doesn't really have to leave you with that sense of doom. and RUSH did that in a way, by the moment we learn that the guy died the story has already ended, the movie is not about him dying is about something bigger than that. And to me Senna is somebody bigger than his whole accident.
By "hero", I was referring to Lauda... He's the one (the only one) who died and was reborn on the racetrack and that's why his life is worthy a movie... Hunt's death adds pathos to the story, but, as you said, it happened a long time after the events told in RUSH, it's rightfully mentioned as an epilogue, but it's not part of the movie storyline. The movie tells about Lauda's rebirth, instead, because it was THIS that made him a hero, on the exact opposite of Senna, who actually became a hero by dying. That's why I said that Senna's story would be too tragic for a movie: because it ended with him loosing against Death, while Lauda was the winner of his battle...and I prefer victorious heroes, at least in movies!
Secondly... I started watching F1 after Senna's death, so I don't remember him directly, but I'll never ever be able to like him anyway: I'm a Ferrari fan!!!
he was already a hero, he became an icon at the moment of his death. But it depends, on what one considers winning and loosing is and what death is to us. However I'm sure that if they were to make a movie about it, it wouldn't be Senna vs. Prost, it would be Senna and Prost and it would be awesome but darker yes.
A movie like that with Senna will probably never happend because of his family.

I have always followed F1 since I was a kid thanks to my dad (I'm 28 now) I wish i had the opportunity to watch F1 in the 60s 70s and 80s and watch some of the true heroes and legends of the sport drive. I know that the 70s in particular was marred by many a death and tragedy but these guys risked it all to achieve perfection. True legends and true drivers.....every single one of them from the front to the back of the grid.
Fantastic drivers depicted by Fantastic actors brilliantly guided by a Fantastic director who created a Fantastic movie... Did I mention I think it's Fantastic.....Mr Howard, please Sir may I have another....

Sooo proud of Ron Howard, our little red headed, freckle faced boy star of the Andy Griffith Show of many years ago who grew up to be a fantastic Hollywood producer. I grew up from a dirt poor, terribly dysfunctional family and managed to do quite well for myself and am happy and grateful for my life. Doesn’t compare financially to Mr. Howard’s life, but I am sooo glad he took interest into the Niki Lauda (Formula one) story and produced the film Rush. Now that Niki Lauda died (20 May,2019), I suspect more people will (like me), become fans of Formula One racing and perhaps fans of the Niki Lauda story, the film Rush, and other films produced by the once little boy called Opie on the Andy Griffith show of bygone days.
I've got a hella man crush on hemsworth...dude's a hunk and a half man!

At last a movie that the actors look alike really with the real ones.Chris is really look alike with Hunt,also Brul really look alike Lauda.Is the only movie I saw,that choose actors that look exactly with the real,other biography movies have chose actors that are not look alike with the real ones.Or except a movie I think was filmed about Diana's life,who was Naomi Watts as Diana they were real look alike and now a new movie with Kristen Stewart as Diana is coming.

+1 yup he returned to McLaren after some financial issues with his airline company. His lawsuit with Boeing in 93 over a mechanical failure is purely badass if you read what he was willing to do to prove a point.
