I think they are a little unfair in claiming that Hunts character is two dimensional. The shows him throwing up before races (this did happen) and use the flicking of the cigarette lighter as a symbol of the stress and turmoil that is going on inside. Hunt was a very complex character and they deal with this the best they can within a mainstream framework.

And let's not forget he gives a brutal beating to the reporter who insults Lauda.

I noticed M.K didn't mention Daniel Bruhl by name? Did he forget the actors name? :)

I never got the Thor resemblance in this at all. Reading up on James Hunt, he appeared to come across as that type of arrogant "lothario" if you want to call it that. I thought Hemsworth's performance was strong. His accent does slip a bit, but not enough to detract. I personally think Daniel Bruhl's performance as Niki Lauda is one of the best things about this film. It was pretty spot on. I'm not a fan of motor racing but this was such a strong all-rounder, one of the best films of the year.

When you think about the two characters in how one is emotional and the other is calculated, aren't you supposed to have an internal questions of which one are you? If you live by emotional decisions then James Hunt is the ultimate version of that, just as if you are more pragmatic and calculated of a decision maker then Lauda is very much the ultimate of that. Rush really is remarkable.

I really disliked the first 40 minutes (possibly because of Hemsworth aka Thor aka Austin Powers but also the over explanation, the quick sequenced early races) yet by the end, hand on heart, I was sobbing, absolutely bowled over by Daniel Bruhl's portrayal of Lauda's gritty determination & endurance.
Totally agree that the constant narrative or commentary was unnecessary.
I think Howard did this, to a lesser extent, with Apollo 13. Possibly how he rolls.

I still remember the shock of his death. The movie was beyond riveting, because I'd never quite understood how he could have died like that. It kind of drew a line under the tragedy for me.

I'm a big fan of what we'll call 'The Rivalry Tale'. Often two experts pitted against each other due to their excellence and differing temperament. This movie is a great proponent of said story. For some odd reason I want to play as Ryu on Street Fighter against Ken! Was it just me, or did Niki come across as a more interesting character? Posters that only show Hunt's face seem a little bit insincere now I've seen the film.

I'm really excited to see this despite my general reservations regarding Ron Howard's directing prowess. Also, I'm a Yank and I've had an active interest in formula one racing for several years despite the fact that I do not consider myself to be "a car guy".

    hmmm :
"Gimme some lovin'" in the soundtrack
Rent-a-car chase similar to Lauda's speedy road car shenanigans
A segment of each race with awful "he's going for the inside" commentary
    Accident
    Recovery in hospital
Scared race driver on the track again
Sees an accident unfold in front of him
Avoids it and shifts up through the gears, passing car after car - confident once again
Did I just pay to see Days of Thunder - the reboot ?

Hemsworth's accent is the kind of cod, over-voiced plosives plum I'd expect from an American actor. Not an Australian. But then, he's not a very good actor anyway.

Ron Howards films are the most boring and shoddily made ive ever seen. The man has no uniqueness and an inability to truely put weight into the dramatic scenes. How many scenes do you actually remember from his films? Hiring the writer of Frost Nixon says all that needs to be said.

    • @TheHorrorGuy1978
      @TheHorrorGuy1978 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

To say this movie is boring and shoddily made is ridiculous and just shows that you have no idea what a good movie is.
