6 foot bed is definitely the way to go. Everyone who gets a 5 footer regret it sooner or later. The whole point of having a truck is to have a useful bed for cargo.

@Augustus McRae The 5' bed is useful for cargo. Just not AS useful. 5' bed is the choice for off road enthusiasts. Personally, I would go with the trd sport with long bed. Do no like the plastic cladding on the off road.

I think the people who buy this truck to have a car with a bin attached on the back are generally satisfied. 😄
That extra foot makes a real difference on a mid sized pickup though.

I bought a copy of this exact truck. lifted 3 inch and it works great on trails even with the longer wheel base. I like the look of the long bed. My dad always said a truck with less than a 6 foot bed is just a car they forgot to put a trunk lid on.

I have a 2015 Doublecab with the 5 foot bed. 6 foot beds are hard to find in my area, although I see a few of them there weren’t many up for sale when I got mine. (Interestingly for the 2nd gen the towing capacity for the doublecab w/ 5 ft bed is slightly higher than the one w/ 6 ft bed; the best towing capacity is the access cab w/ 6 ft bed) Where I live almost all tacomas have the 5 ft bed, both 2nd and 3rd gens. I find it funny that although the 3rd gen is slightly longer/wider, they have the exact same bed length as the 2nd gen, so it’s nice having exactly the same utility as all the other tacomas I see driving around, while also being easier to park and maneuver offroad.

I retired in 2020. In ‘21 I bought a TRD off-road with a 5’ bed because I’m done working and I don’t want to be hauling around anything. I primarily use it for off-road exploring so the short wheelbase works good for me. That being said I have a friend with a ‘17 TRD OR with a 6’ bed and he does just fine off-road. It’s too close to be a factor off-road. It all boils down to what you like to look at because if you’re like me, you look at it all the time. I do like how the body side detail is more complete with the 6’.

Love the 6' for transporting my 12' fishing kayak/kayaks. Just put them in the bed and strap them down with the tailgate down. Easy and efficient. Con is that parking is more difficult due to the turning radius with the longer wheelbase.

I originally wanted the short bed but it was during covid and availability was terrible. I had 3 cement grey Tacoma’s sold from other dealerships that my dealer said they had claimed for transfer. I had a lease out on another car that was ending so I had to pick something. They offered me a silver trd off road with the long bed and I settled for it. Not knowing that I would fall in love with it quickly. I use the bed a lot for hauling work loads and bikes. I did a 3/2.5 lift on it with 33” ridge grapplers and it looks super badass. The color even grew on me because I hated silver before. Now I love it with all the black accents. The only con I have with the long bed is parking in tight parking lots and when I wanna take it off roading im more limited as far as clearing obstacles. Also with the lift it’s just as big as my co workers 2018 Silverado.

I do like the look of the LB vs. the SB. I currently have a 06 access cab with a 6' bed and love it. I just put down a deposit though on a TRD Sport with a 5' bed although I told my sales person that I would be happy with either size. I do worry about the quad cab/LB combination though as I'll be using this as my daily and parking will be an issue. I have a Thule ladder rack so carrying ladders and longer building material typically isn't an issue. The only issue I do see is carrying our three kayaks. But even with the LB, the kayaks rest on the tailgate which I don't love. I think a hitch mounted cargo extender will be an inexpensive solution to the SB and take stress off of the tailgate. The one large advantage of a short bed is that I will be able to carry less mulch per trip for my wife which will make my weekends more enjoyable. lol.

i took the 5 foot bed because it is better off road... shorter wheel base has better break over angle, the power is delivered a little quicker with the shorter driveline and it gets around in tight trails better... i do think the long bed looks better with body to bed ratio, and more suited for urban use, but the short box is a lot more nimble for more serious off road.... what ever the flavor, you cant really go wrong with either..

I have one (Tundra double cab) and the opposite is true to me, that it’s too much daily utility for my needs. I’ve been looking into the Tacoma. I personally think the length of the 6’ Tacoma looks good, but the narrow size feels a bit out of proportion, wouldn’t you say? I agree that lifted the 6’ looks sweet. I wouldn’t have a truck with less than a 6ft bed … like you said, I’ve never found myself wanting more off road capabilities with a long box , but I have definitely seen several people in situations where they wished they had a longer box in these shorty Tacoma’s . I think they look far better too, more proportionate with a long box . Those 5ft beds are basically a 4 Runner with a glorified grocery box in the back . I mean seriously, if you’re buying a vehicle for its ability to traverse in tight technical terrain with its short wheelbase, just get a dam jeep .

I went with 5ft, it’s a mid size little truck anyway, if I was hauling around weight often I wouldn’t have bought a Tacoma to begin with. I would’ve bought a full size truck.
