    Pete's garden is my sort of garden! Not keen on sterile, straight, super-tidy gardens at all, they're not natural looking. Keep up the great work, Martin!

      Thank you very much, I'm glad we have similar tastes. I've never been keen on the pristine tidy gardens myself.
      Although, each un to their own 😁
      Thanks for the comment
      Martin.

    My favourite part is you the gardener!
    It is such a relief to find someone who
    Doesn’t barge around destroying all living
    Things with power tools.
    This garden is a credit to its owner and creator.
    You did a wonderful job maintaining it.

      Well, you just won top prize for best answer 😊😂
      I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, he's a rare gentleman, and he's created something quite special here. I'll take any excuse to go back and help out.
      Thanks again

      @@martinthegardenguy oh this has made my day!
      You really are the kind of gardener that I love.
      Geoff Hamilton was my hero too
      So you are in good company, I look forward
      To watching all your videos now.
      Best wishes to you and your family.

      Thank you 😊 🙏
      P.s Geoff was (and still is) one of my heroes to. My first gardening book was "the living garden " I got it off my grandad. I must have only been 12-13 years old 😁
      A little sad, but I haven't got a clue where it is anymore. Probably lost in multiple house moves. You've made me think though! I'll be on ebay later on trying to find a copy 😂

    Whats not to love about this beautiful garden. Pete's paradise is stunning and probably keeps him feeling young. (He looks pretty good for his age ) Apart from the " entire garden " the whirlygig and the gates are my favs. Thanks for the video Martin, Stay well 💚🐝

      You've given me a great idea for a plaque for the garden gate "Pete's Paradise" 😂 I love it.

      I've learned a lot from him.
      Cheers for the awesome comment.

      Oooo yes, the pagoda. I like that too, it's very airy and cool even in really hot weather.

    I love all the little paths and places to wander through. It seems like many different areas make this generous garden seem even larger. The nature pond is lovely. I have always kept fish ponds with strict demands on filtering the water, etc, and al surprised and impressed at how lovely this little nature pond is. ❤ edit if pete can think of it, he coud keep a saucer of water with some small stones in it on the greenhouse bench for any butterflies that find themselves confused. I imagine they go in because its warm, then get a bit dehydrated and ar trapped.

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's an awesome idea with the water in the greenhouse 👍 I love it!
      I think Pete used to have fish many years ago, but as you say l, the maintenance is a lot more. He used to have a shelter all around to stop herons eating all the fish. But one winter the snow brought it all down.
      Now it's a self care nature pond, but I bet it was still lovely when he had fish.
      But now he has frogs instead 😂 it's a fair trade, I think.
      Thanks for the lovely comment.
      All the best
      Martin

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh, hahaha, yeah, they are little buggers sometimes. I've seen them flying with some totally crazy things in their beaks sometimes.
      It is very clever to steal planter liners that must be perfect nest insulation.

      I love crows. They're graceful in flight and very knowing. They let me know if there's a cat in the garden.
      They perch on the fence and caw until I look round to see where they're hiding.

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Indeed, they are super intelligent.

    Pete has a very natural feel to it. I love the patio overlooking the pond. Wrought iron gate is beautiful. Wishing Pete a lovey 2024 season in his garden. Next time save the stinging Nettle. I love the secret garden gate and the magic behind it. It’s a garden where nature thrives! Love how you respect it and show us the plants. How I miss the daffodils waving in the wind heralding spring! The nettles made me wince as I unfortunately had a not so lovely experience in 1971 when I was temporarily living in England with my grandparents - horrid plant! Best to Pete, you and your family. 😊

    Pete keeps a lovely garden! I appreciate it’s biodiversity and the moss left on the rocks. Not only does it give the garden a more established feel, it also helps retain moisture in the dry months. I stopped removing moss once I learned that it sequesters 3x the amount of CO2 as an equal area of lawn. The hate is lovely, and there is always something special about a water feature! About crocus it already bloomed. Goo on you for not pulling it, bilbs like to keep their leaves for long enough to build strength for next year. The leaves will die back as soon as ir gets warm enough for short sleeves! Thank you for your light touch at this special place.

    Thanks for a great video! How interesting the plants you showed us. I felt the beauty of the place immediately! It is the secret garden feeling that one gets when one is alone with nature. Of course there are nettles! And bees sometimes and other insects and weeds and such but they add to the beauty of nature. Here in the States we used to give nettle plants to the chickens because they ate them. And that is part of the charm of a secret garden, one man's weed is another man's dinner! Ha! Ha! The feeling of the garden for me was that there was always something to gaze at and wonder how nature works as it evolves through the seasons. I suspect it is our own nature saluting Mother Nature and looking for ways to be nurtured by her. George from Florida, USA

    Beautiful garden! You did a great job tidying it up. I much prefer gardens like this over the pristine, organized ones. My favorite part: all the moss covered rocks and the little white duck you tried to run over with your mower. 😄
    Not a fan of ivy though.

      Haha 😂 well spotted. I almost killed Jemima Puddle Duck 😁
      I'm so glad you enjoyed the garden, at least I know I'm not going mad.
      The moss covered rocks are a beautiful touch, you're right.
      I'm not surprised about your thoughts on Ivy, though. I seem like the only person who likes it 😂
