Like in an actual interview, first question (literally): "How do you feel?" Moa: "I'm hungry. I need to eat fried chickens." 🤣 As I have said so many times, I was quite skeptical when the studio version first came out, mainly because of the overuse of the voice effects. And I wasn't the only one. Some other fans even thought that they would never perform it live. And we all were proven wrong. They premiered it live in January 2020 and they killed it. Hands down! It's also one of Su-metal's favorite songs to perform. Now, I hope to experience it live in my next BABYMETAL shows. 🤘🦊

For most of my recordings up until now, I would sing “la la laa” to create a sort of vocal line, and then lyric writing began based on that. But it was different for this track, they had a backing track and lyrics, and then told me to try rapping. So at first I was still trying to figure it out. In hiphop they call it…it was like…ah, I forget! MOAMETAL: Wasn’t it…f-…fall? SU-METAL: Uh…what was it… KOBAMETAL (their producer): Flow? SU-METAL: Flow! (laughs) To get a feel for the flow, I made a lot of different attempts to figure out what would be good. Like how to descend and ascend in pitch, and which timing would be the best to try the pitch changes. Even for the same phrase I’d try going a little ahead of the beat or a little bit behind it, while keeping the whole track’s balance in mind. BABYMETAL live is always a step up from their studio recordings. A lot of fans didn't like this at all when they first heard it - "too many effects and autotune on Su's vocals" and they thought they could and would not play it live. Happily they were proved very wrong and Su kills it without the effects and autotune - and as you saw and heard for yourself this song hits hard live.🤘 It was not on the international release of the album, it was a Japan exclusive ... but they had it on the set list every night for the UK and Europe tour in 2020 and they took the roof off every venue with it. Audio source is from the arena show at Budokan in 2021 that I saw at the venue. 😍 Su-Metal is singing about some established style which used to be revolutionary and literally "stylish" but has turned already obsolete like an "Illusion of Rusted Chain" (last phrase of Su's rapping). Lyrics are suggesting breakthrough in or challenge to the status-quo (including the status of BM itself). When I heard this song in CD for the first time, I was skeptical that this challenging song would be played live on stage. But they did it flawlessly with clear vocal and sharp choreo. I witnessed it twice on Day-7 & 8 in 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN concerts in 2021. I, a poor skeptic, had to beg our Queen & Princesses for their forgiveness. 🥶

I can't wait to see them at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday night. The Queen and her Crown Princesses will be in full flower for this momentous occasion. Just so you know, 6 times this year (Makuhari x2, Yokohama x2, Haneda and Summer Sonic Festival). As far as I know to date, BM will end up with 94 times performance in concerts (as guest, head liner, co-head liner) and in festivals this year. 2023 will be the best year for BM fans in the world. 😍

I guess there can be someone older, who's to really tell about age. There has been a lot of activity here in the US with Japanese groups in 2023. Band Maid was here twice in their 10th Anniversary Tour, in May and in August, 20 sold-out dates each. Between September 2022 and August 2023 they were here three times with at least 20 dates each time and all sell-outs. Gacharic Spin was here for 15 dates, Nemophila also. And I think Hanabie was here also. There were two other but I can't remember which ones were here. I'm hoping and praying that Wagakki Band, SCANDAL and Glim Spanky do US tours soon or I'll just have to come to Japan, lol. I think Li-Sa-X is going to be here to collaborate with some American bluegrass artists. If I do come out we will have to get together for some sake and a meal, and maybe take in a show. There are so many great new groups showing up now. Tone Spoon is really making an impact with some really eclectic pieces. If I do come I want to hit the Tokyo jazz/funk scene, The Jazz Avengers, Uko Saxy, Foxy, The Sax Triplets and so many other great acts really need to be publicized. Great music. that upward inflection at the end of Su’s lines is a skill few could even attempt. She’s one of the best live vocalists out there, no question. You can really tell she enjoys showcasing a different vocal style and showing off her skills with BxMxC

As I have said so many times, I was quite skeptical when the studio version first came out, mainly because of the overuse of the voice effects. And I wasn't the only one. Some other fans even thought that they would never perform it live. And we all were proven wrong. They premiered it live in January 2020 and they killed it. Hands down!
