I rather think the new jeans actually represent the Idols and hessoo represent the fans behind the screens, when hessoo left with her boyfriend it was a sign that she was growing up and leaving k-pop behind her and at the end of part B we can see her opening a box filled with memories of new jeans (and kpop) ,she remembers the days when K-pop cheered her up, this song means that no matter how old we grow New jeans will always stay with us in our heart What a good song!❤
This is an awesome way to look at the music video! It makes a lot of sense and I love reading comments like this that can help me understand different ways to see these videos ❤
These MVs are presumably about the relationship between a fan and idols. Ban Hee Soo is New Jeans' fans. Literally their fan name is Bunnies so when you say it in Korean, Ban Hee Soo = bunnies. What we saw in side A was kind of the parasocial aspect of it - where you feel like the idols are your friends and they keep you company. But if you notice, she starts to get interested in other things like boys and her classmates seemingly judge her for her childish hobbies. She ends up feeling alone and isolated and starts to move on from stanning New Jeans. The deer I think represents a lot of things, one theory is that it represents youth and childhood and she is moving on from it. Another theory is that deer represent something beautiful and magical, but when you get close, it will run away, so you can never actually touch it - like the fans to their idols. The cat is also representing Haerin (which you saw in OMG). In side B, we also see that the phone is ringing and Minji is calling but Ban Hee Soo doesn't answer. New Jeans has an app to communicate with fans called Phoning. Her not answering anymore means she left the fandom. Later in Side B, we see that she pulls out her fan paraphernalia from the box and plays backs the tapes. This is her reminiscing on her days of being a fan and feeling those good memories again. So it's kind of a message about how people grow up and grow out of being a fan, but they never really stop being a fan and that time when they are fans gives them beautiful memories that they can have with them all of their life. This video directly links to OMG, where OMG is from New Jeans perspective. Ditto = fans to New Jeans perspective OMG = New Jeans to fans perspective *when I watched this MV for the first time, I cried. Without knowing why I was crying, I just cried. Now that I'm able to analyze it, it makes a lot more sense why it made me so emotional.
me too... even on first watch without knowing the whole meaning it was very haunting and has that feel of something being off and not right and again even without knowing the whole meaning its still obvious on first view that shes imagining her friends and its so so sad
Great reaction. First of all, Haesoo is real (a real fan), and the five group members were a real Kpop group. However, the memories of Haesoo videotaping the Kpop group were imaginary. IMO, Ditto speaks about the good and bad aspects of being immersed in a parasocial Kpop Idol/Kpop Fan relationship, from the fan standpoint (OMG is from the Kpop Idol's perspective). The good is that it can help you cope with a bad situation currently being experienced. The girl behind the camera (representing fans) had a cast, possibly from a car accident where she may have lost her parents (never shown), but nevertheless trying to cope with a traumatic experience. She was comforted by imagining her favorite Kpop group members surrounding her with loving companionship. But eventually she knew she had to move on with her life and had to live in the real world (broke her camera, moved from her imaginary relationship with her Kpop Idols to a real relationship with the Boy). Years later she put in the VHS, and all the happy memories (about how her Kpop group gave her a sense of loving support to help her cope with a traumatic situation) came rushing back. You said she was so sad at the end, but I disagree. There is no evidence she was sad at all. The girls rushing in the door were extremely happy and she was in the shot videotaping them, being part of the fan experience again. The downside of the parasocial relationship is that if you stay in that imaginary world, your real world will be in ruins as you lose sight of your own necessary personal growth and the needed transition to adulthood with all the associated responsibilities that come with that. She realized her life was not heading in a good direction, and keeping with her imaginary relationship would destroy her real life. And BTW, the blank look on the boy AND her fellow classmates as she was videotaping gives me the impression that they all knew the girl was coping with a traumatic experience and were empathetic. Notice that there was no taunting, not attempts at making fun of her or belittling her.
They were playing games in this video. At the start New Jeans (in the gym) was doing the dance routine for their MV 'OMG' which hadn't been released yet, then in the OMG video they mention Hesoo and also use footage from their Ditto video.
Actually there are several interpretation of the MV out there. But from what I gather, first of all, New Jeans was real when she ain't wearing cast at the times (during the scene she filming them walking into her perhaps club room in the ending of Side B, there is a glimpse of Hee Soo holding the camrecorder but without the cast yet). Judging from the difference in blazer (New Jeans wear brown? whereas thebrest of student including Hee Soo wear blue), I'm not sure how korean school works there, but I guess they wear different color of uniform according to season, perhaps they wear brown in Winter Spring season, then blue uniform in Summer Autumn season. The reason I make such guesses is that New Jeans in the footage wear a lot warmer clothes while for most blue color uniform classmate seem like happening during summer season. So this lead to my theory of New Jeans and Hee Soo (the camrecording girl who keep called by this name in the recording footage) know each other during last Winter/Spring season when New Jeans still working on their choreography and so perhaps that's why they ask Hee Soo who is from recording club to help recording their dance and all these VHS footage is left in this cinematography club room where grown up Hee Soo comes back and revisit her memories in beginning of Side A and ending of Side B. However during Winter perhaps they got into an accident perhaps hitting the deer or what cause the rest of New Jeans passed away and Hee Soo is only one left alive with the injury on her arm. That's why she is trouble by her survivor guilt during the summer/autumn session and begin to hallucinating about her friends are still alive. There is a detail of her friends draw on her cast but the drawing didn't exist in most of the scene, and one of the thing write on her cast if you know korean means "Don't Die". So the MV is split into side A and side B just like the old cassette for music did, and side A is the process of Hee Soo falling into her fantasy and wanting to believe her friends still alive so she give up her umbrella and walk with them under rain. Whereas Side B is the process of Hee Soo begin to recover from her hallucination by rejecting New Jeans on that raining scene and walk away with her umbrella, drop her camrecorder from rooftop and ignore her friends call. The reason she manage to recover is due to that Boy even tho they never elaborate on that part since that's not the main focus of this hallucination except Hee Soo has an eye on him and walk with him leaving this fantasy behind in the final scene.
New Jeans wants you to know that you too have a life and you should live it. the shot of them at school , dancing, enjoying each others company....... New jeans will always be there for you to enjoy but living a more...wholesome... life is important. the deer represents a coming of age. the innocences of the deer and then you see the scene of her walking away with her new boyfriend.....coming of age... living her life..... The song is a banger..... I love the instrumentation. So lite.... but complex with the stick pattern.... the k drama feel is so good.... a story in a music video.....yyyeeessss.......thanks again. like it better when you go in blind. I didn't figure it out on the first watch or the second..... had to watch others....a little help from your friends doesn't hurt...

I'd say that the scene with drinking water is an image of the kiss. Shot and poses are genius in this scene.
