My take is similar... the music/art/idols accompany us through our lives but at some point we have to actually live our own life. But still they remain a part of us and our memories

      Biggest fan theory:
The members did die in an accident and she was the only survivor (why she wears the cast) but as she was dealing with her grief, she met that guy and he was the only one that seemed to make her forget about her grief hence why she got distracted and filmed him during basketball and the symbolic meaning of her putting her cam recorder down at the tap area means she's slowly moving away from her grief to happiness hence the happy yet eary sound of the song.
Also, the deer that she sees at the end of the video, means she finally has inner peace. She has moved on. ( That's why we saw the video cam destroyed and in side b , the ending scene shows new jeans coming back to life and sat down happily on the couch).

IMO the video shows how kpop fans can and will exuberate psychological dependency and or escapism. For some people the dependency is a time consuming bad thing for other people it is a temporary escape. When Heeseo grew up as an adult she replayed the old videos of NewJeans because perhaps she just got divorced and now needs what she considers her old friends back. Not only did she watch the old videos and remines about old times but she then also allowed NewJeans to sit with her and watch a movie with her beginning another dependency and habit. Thoughts???

One popular theory is that the whole video is a coming-of-age story. To be specific, it's about a relationship between a k-pop group and their fans. The protagonist symbolizes the fans. Her name is "Ban Heesoo" which is a play of words of "Bunnies" (the name of NewJeans fandom.) NewJeans used to be a big part of her life. Actually, she was addicted to them to the point where her classmates thought she's weird. However, as she grew older, she found "more important" things in life. (Scenes such as choosing the boy over NewJeans, ignoring phone calls from Minji etc. I believe the deer represents NewJeans.) NewJeans became one of her childhood memories and all those memories are inside a small dusty box. Revisiting the past brings back the joy of the good times.

I'm sorry for my awkward English.
I will be 30 years old next year.
I'm young, but compared to people in their teens or early 20s, there's a certain gap.
I thought I was getting older, but in fact, time is abstract. You can't see it with your eyes.
When I first watched the MV when Newjeans debuted,
I felt that a new generation is approaching.
It's the first time I've seen the flow of time.
I think they're not ghosts, they're things that the girl in the MV can't reach directly. They made the girl happy, but eventually she has to live in reality. The boy is a real thing. The girl decides to live in reality (she doesn't answer Minji's phone)
And time is supposed to keep going. It has nothing to do with human emotions. Girl will be 30 years old like me. And in the future, looking back, she's going to feel the same flow as me.

    • @bbbb00bbb

The primary storyline in the MV may seem to miss dead friends.
But I think it's just a tool to convey real meaning.
Yes, of course, it's my own opinion.

I’m 30 I feels like the mv storyline it’s kind described the reality of idols and teen fan relationship. I see the 18 myself in this mv 😢 when I had no friend in high school and I was fan girl of TVXQ . I always dreamed TVXQ are my friends.
Then just like this mv showed the girl start to face reality. Everyone will grow old but one day you recall the idol you love when you were 18 , you still can feel that love~

If you see at the end heesu decides to use her umbrella and new jeans just watches her walk away. This time it's different she knows they're not real so side b seems like she realizes she knows they're not real and she has to move on without them.
When she gets a call on her phone from minji you can tell it's heart breaking that she wants to pick up but again it's her trying to move on and fight through what she's really going through. And so she leans on the guy emotionally instead. Maybe side a she was just getting lost in this idea of new jeans group and leaning on them too much but she realized she needs to truly face her reality. But new jeans is always there for her regardless. And even in the future they will be.

  • @Lyls456
    @Lyls456 ปีที่แล้ว +15

I think that at the end of Side B, when we see the girls going into the room where the girl/woman is watching the tape and they are saying “I haven’t been here in so long” it means that they haven’t been there because the woman didn’t allow them until then, when she is reminiscing about the past and her school days where their music/friendship was all to her. The woman is finally “letting them in” again, after so long.
This makes total sense after listening to you talking about how this MV is a representation of the relationship between music and fans. At first, the song gave me a happy vibe, but after rewatching these mvs over and over again, I know I’ll never stop feeling nostalgic and a bit sad. I truly loved this song and the way the story has been told.

You are correct! New Jeans means 'Kpop idols' for that lonely girl (her refuge). So they are imaginary ones- as she grows, she likes a boy and also she leaves the group with age. And she overcame her loneliness and became an adult. The final scene of B means the girl became a woman and recalls the new jeans.

I really appreciate your reaction to these two incredible MVs. It was truly a stroke of inspiration to make this into two MVs, with both MVs needing to be viewed in order to gain the fuller, more deep meaning. I agree with your analysis of the first MV. For the second MV, the way I interpreted it, was that the girl finally realizes that it is unhealthy for her to live in an imaginary world in which the New Jeans girls are her imaginary friends, and she makes a painful decision to leave her imaginary world and to live in reality (she destroys the camera, walks with the boy, etc.). That is also why the deer walks away in the corridor, as she no longer lives in a fantasy world. Then, years later the adult version of the girl returns to her childhood bedroom in order to reminisce on her past including the happy memories of her passion for Kpop idols (symbolized by New Jeans). The girl (now a woman) is able to again let New Jeans back into her life in a healthy manner, as she is now more grounded and better able mentally to reap the benefits of Kpop without the unhealthy obsession that her less mature self fell into. Does anyone else share my interpretation?

  • @silinoie

I watched multiple times now and this is my theory.
They were best friends and HeeSeo doesn't seem to want to dance in the group. She prefers to be behind the camera and record their group. Something happened, maybe like an accident that the NewJeans didn't survive. So she is having this flashbacks or hallucinating and is also grieving and now being alone, she seems to be in denial about her reality. Hence, her classmates are looking at her "weirdly". But the guy who is there watching her from afar, making sure that she is okay and in Side B at the end, she is already an adult. She watched some old videos with the girls and brought back memories again but it still felt like yesterday.
I can't wait to hear other theories. :)

@@geenonotrbl YES! I got goosebumps when Hyein said "Sorry" like 2x
I can interpret it as Hyein is saying sorry to her that they couldn't be there for her. Like literally she is all alone and she is missing her friends and they are saying sorry to her that they cant be there for her. 🥲🥲

This MV shows the relationship between Newjeans and fans called bunnies. The girl with the camcorder represents a fans. N the male student represents realistic problems, the scene of getting rained ia too. At first, she cheered for idols hard, but as she live, it weakens or stops.
But When they come As if playing a video tape, NewJeans would become a memory that welcomes fans whenever they come
Then like the Members said, Ditto is a fan song It is.

  • @sgrios

I understand the hole thing about the relationship between fans and the groups and as you many say a growth or passage of time and the move on from those memories. The deer tends to be often used as a representation of innocence. That's why she keeps seeing it and at a point is goes away because when we grow we let go of that innocence that is by no means to loose it as we see at the end is just keeping it as a part of your past and looking back at it with fondness.

When I watched Side A and saw the end and for a moment saw the girl was alone and possibly imagined the NewJeans girls as her friends this whole time, but was/is alone this whole time... that kinda broke me. I couldn't focus on the music anymore and was so invested in the story of the music videos. There have been emotional kpop music videos before, but I don't think I ever cried like a baby before like I did in that moment. FANTASTIC!
I'm really happy that it moved me that way and got me thinking. Now after a few more listens and not thinking about the story in the MVs I fell in love with it so much, but get kinda teary eyed whenever I listen to it, because it makes me think of how I felt watching it for the first time.
    Just wow! What a masterpiece!

i love your analysis/interpertation. i also think the mv can means about how new jeans and fans (bunnies) is when the fans are going older / in future. like when you are getting older and in relationship (like the guy and heeseo in side b) sometimes you can forget your idol but in the end when u feel alone, you can also remembering the time when u are being a fan through social media/smartphone (in the mv, phone potrayed with cam recorder) and the cam recoder can also means how fans are seeing them thru smartphone, tv, etc.

  • @gtd19td
    @gtd19td ปีที่แล้ว +12

I take it as a commentary on our society's addiction to parasocial relationships.
Side A shows the girl choosing a relationship with an idol group over forming relationships in reality. While this can seem fulfilling and happy in the moment, eventually a time will come when you "wake up" and realize that no matter how much you love and admire them, it is a one-way relationship; much like the deer, you can only look from afar and never truly "get close".
Side B shows the Idol's "side" of the relationship. The Idols are shown seeing the fan the same way everyone else did, wanting to be closer and help but being unable. We see their confusion as she runs away from them and then them watching as she walks in the rain but from their perspective, they are not really walking with her. This show how they also can't really see the impact that they are having on her. Eventually, the illusion "breaks" and The fan disconnects to live her life and make a connection in reality. And the Idols are shown huddled together as they still have each other. In the end, once the girl has taken time for herself and is in a better place she reconnects with the idols and it's as if they never separated.
It all serves to show that you can and should go and live your life. You shouldn't obsess over things to the point where you're missing out. The Idols/music/deer will not replace the meaningful relationships you make in life but they will always be there for you unconditionally.

A coming-of-age story depicting a relationship between celebrities and their fans.
No matter how much you love someone, everything has an end. (I believe the deer represents NewJeans.)
"One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar."
    - Puff, the Magic Dragon
Does that mean 'being a fan' is meaningless?
Time passes, things change, but memories will remain.

The ending of side b feels more like after the girl grew up and became an adult, she accidentally discovered her old music collections one day and decided to play it once again. The music and video immediately brought her back to her teenage time, she felt just like that her imagery friends have came back, like her real old friends, knocking her door and say hello to her. The evidence of this is that the five newjeans girls at the last scene don’t even change their appearance or outfit, they look just like they are high school students. But clearly several years has past and our girl is getting older. Also their first line after entering the door is “it’s been so long” because after she stopped hiding in a shell, she haven’t had her imaginary friends for company for ages🥲

The girl filming the camcorder means a fan of NewJEANs. In music video A, the distance between the girl and the NewJEANs is very close. NewJEANs is dancing with a camcorder right in front of her. And when it rains, there is only one umbrella, but she give up my umbrella and walk in the rain with NewJEANs. At the end of the music video A, the NewJEANs disappears. This is the view of the public, not a fan of NewJEANs. In music video B, a girl feels love toward a boy student. This is one of the many real things that happens to a girl in her life. Anyway, as the girl gradually focuses on things other than New Jeans, the psychological distance between the girl who was a fan of New Jeans and New Jeans becomes distant. For example, in music video B, it is raining, but the girl walks away with an umbrella alone. And behind it, NewJEANs watches the changed girl. Like this, the girl gradually forgets the NewJEANs and lives. And I also have a relationship with a male student. The grown-up girl brings out the memories of the NewJEANs. When the video is played, the image of the NewJEANs comes out with memories of childhood, and the girl falls into memories while watching it. The deer that appears in the music video is probably a symbol of NewJEANs. In the music video A, the girl captures the dance of the newjeans with a camcorder right in front of her, but in the music video B, she is only looking from afar. In other words, they are not as enthusiastic as they used to be.The distance between the girl and the deer in the snowy scene in MV A, that is, the girl and the NewJEANs, is gradually getting farther away, and in MV B, they are trying to get closer again. But the girl has a boyfriend, and the deer disappears on its own when it sees it. Perhaps the overall concept of this music video is a kind of message that NewJEANs sends to fans. There will be fans who cheer consistently, and there will be fans who are enthusiastic fans like girls and then move away for a while or forever. But NewJEANs understands and supports it.

Great reaction. IMO, Ditto speaks about the good and bad aspects of being immersed in a Kpop group fandom. The good is that it can help you cope with a bad situation currently being experienced. The girl behind the camera (representing fans) had a cast, possibly from a car accident where she may have lost her parents (never shown), but nevertheless trying to cope with a traumatic experience. She was comforted by imagining her favorite Kpop group members surrounding her with loving companionship. But eventually she had to face reality in order to move on (broke her camera, moved from her imaginary relationship with her Kpop Idols to a real relationship with the Boy). Years later she put in the VHS, and all the happy memories (about how her Kpop group gave her a sense of loving support to help her cope with a traumatic situation) came rushing back. The downside is that if you stay in that imaginary world, your real world will be in ruins as you lose sight of your own necessary personal growth and the needed transition to adulthood with all the associated responsibilities that come with that. And BTW, the blank look on the boy AND her fellow classmates as she was videotaping gives me the impression that they all knew the girl was coping with a traumatic experience and were empathetic.

new jeans는 카메라를 든 소녀를 HEESOO라고 부르는데 실제로 new jeans멤버들은 팬들을 bunnies->ban hee soo라고 부른다고 합니다.

I love your interpretation of memories that never existed in the first place as a lot of us follow kpop groups for years and watch them and almost feel like part of them as I also felt that was the message. Cried several times watching both mvs and it felt for me something similar to like BTS' pied piper message. As a fan point of view Newjeans the imaginary friends we wish we had and how we feel so close to our groups but well never actually be able to get that close. *not gonna lie I've imagined kpop idols telling me your going to get through it because for many they are there source of emotional strength. Resonated a lot with this mv and got me thinking of myself can't wait to see more of them.

Whoever is behind NJ’s music and art direction is a true genius and an amazing creative art director! NewJeans is already standing out in such short of time! It’s incredible that actually someone or a some people behind NJ are really doing justice to the girls. Finally! This is what can happens if everything falls into place. It’s like the weakest link is as strong as the strongest link.

my interpretation of this mv is similar to yours. but to me, her seeing them with her in school feels like when i was younger and would imagine my favorite singers as my best friends. their music helps, and the way you see them on camera is how you imagine them to be in real life as your friends. which makes it even sadder for me honestly

This is my perspective. I think the correct order is watch side-B to side-A.
There are spoilers in side-B because everything is a mystery. It’s just the girl filming NJ following them and videoing the guy, then dropping the cam recorder. I have 2 theories. First, maybe the girl(park jihu) is experiencing depression due to an accident because her arm has been cast, resulting in a schizophrenic state. Imagining that her friends are still alive in some moments. Second, either her friends died or it’s her that died but her soul is still stuck watching her friends. Maybe by dropping the cam recorder the girl is close to realizing that NJ is non-existing or she is dead and the deer represents the girl not in the world already.
If you watch B first the ending is a girl watching the VHS and reminiscing new jeans memories then credits appear while vhs is still playing and you can hear the girls talking. More like the ending of side-B is the beginning of side A. Also,if you listen to the melody in side-B ending, it is the same as the melody in side-A beginning. Then continuing to side A, which the girl is still watching vhs of nj girls, is like a continuation of what she is watching in side-B ending but more detailed. The ending of side-A is you don’t know if new jeans are imaginary or the girl is imagining them because she put the nail polish in minji’s pinky but when she woke up it’s pinky that has nail polish. Also, she’s filming no one. OR the girl is dead, because during the drinking fountain scene, in the viewpoint of the guy no one is drinking at the drinking fountain aside from him. Also, Minji drew her but then erased half of the drawing. Then the video ended and credits appeared.
Side-A they showed that the girl is not filming anyone. In the fountain scene, when the guy is drinking the girl is not there he is not seeing the girl and Minji drew the girl then erased half of her. Which would make you realize one of them is imagining the other. Either NJ is imaginary/dead OR the girl has schizophrenia or the girl is dead.
So if you watch it from side A to B you will still feel mv is not yet done because NJ girls are still talking. And MV will confuse you because of the emotion, the feeling it is not yet finished.

Walking in the rain : Still lives in the reminiscence / Dropping the camera & Putting up the umbrella : Walks away from the memory, gets old or adpats / Play the video back : Memories are not erased but only covered with life
These are feelings I've caught at the first time watching it. At some points, the MV goes a little bit scary but generally it touches a part of my heart looking back the time I get to (not choose to) forget about, the not-bad or a-bit-good moments faded away with the weight of daily life. I think the visual pulls me down and the music lifts me up at the same time so my presence is stretched so tensely almost breaks my heart. IMO this is why this MV is so strangely moving, almost tear-shedding but not like 'making me cry' thing.

There's a very hard part to understand unless they are Koreans. Members call her(the veiled girl) "Heesoo" and wrote her full name "반희수 (Ban Heesoo)" on the cast. So we now know her name is Heesoo Ban, but when Koreans call some one, we put the last name in front so we call her "Banheesoo". Here's the thing. The name of New Jeans fan club is "Barneys" and "Banheesoo" is kinda Korean word play and she actually means all fans who love New Jeans, and the guy represents "reality". In the end, she comes back and play VHS to memorize her and their beautiful past.

In my opinion the video clearly is a critique on the parasocial relationships formed between idol and fans, where we really feel like they are ours friends but ultimately they are people we don’t know. Those relationships can be very damaging to one’s life and that is represented in the video as the girl alienated herself from her classmates, walks in the rain and dangerously backwards on a rooftop. Ultimately she is able to grow up and move on from her obsession with her idols and form a real relationship with the boy on the video

So, as how I've understood the MV, the six of them had an accident (notice that the camcorder girl broke her hand) and only her survived. She was reminiscing their memories--reliving, if that makes sense. Certain parts I think she was also imagining them to be with her again. The boy I guess was trying to help her not to feel so lonely, sad, alone etc. At first, she was hesitant as she may still be grieving and in pain, but eventually she learned to open herself up to him.
I haven't thought of the other details yet. I'm not yet done interpreting the whole song and the MV. But, yeah, this is what I got for now.

  • @anne_juli

I think I get this, and here is my theory. Heesoo and newjeans were best friends, they six were always together. Newjeans liked to dance, and Heesoo always did the filming work for them. But one day an terrible accident happened, newjeans the five girls didn't survive, only Heesoo survived and had her arm injured. Since that day, Heesoo went back to school on her own but always watching everything through that video recorder, because inside that recorder, she could still see her five friends talking and playing with her at school, and other classmates thought Heesoo is getting weird and crazy. At the end of the story, Heesoo grows up, and she can finally move on, but when she watched the old video of her five friends, she feels like it was just yesterday. 💔
