Had to do this on my wife’s car this evening. This was the first video I clicked on and it was phenomenal!! Easy to follow and understand. I liked the tool list at the beginning. Had to borrow a 19mm gear wrench from a friend. Great job guys!

I did this on my impala with just a short ratchet 19mm. its awkward but you can reach in and get in the sensor without taking any of that off. It saves so much time and effort. Literally all i used was the one 19 mm and didn't have to take anything besides the sensor out.
This was incredibly helpful! I have a 2010 Impala Lt, and had the check engine light on for the past 5 months! I’ve spent over 700+ dollars at the mechanics shop but still got the same code “engine hot ac off”. I followed this video step by step and was fortunate enough to replace the coolant sensor and get the check engine light off. Thanks guys!

I did this job today on my wife's 2009 Impala. About $20 for the part from NAPA, almost $15 for a 19mm ratchet wrench from Home Depot (ONLY one i could find in my area today!) and about $13 for a jug of coolant. MUCH cheaper than taking it to a mechanic! I did everything you did except disconnect the coolant hoses. I found when I loosened the two 10mm nuts just below the throttle body that I was able to just slide the bracket out of the way and get my ratchet wrench on the sensor. AWESOME video, you saved me a lot of money!
That's encouraging because the hoses on my care are stuck.
I watched a guy just take off the engine mount you went around and do that without removing anything but the mount. Excellent video though.

To me taking the mount off is much faster and easier. Not to mention cheaper so you don't have to refill all of the coolant, just top it off after your finished. Plus like someone else said don't have to worry about air in heater lines.
Just did a 2009 impala temp sensor and I took the mount off as well. After watching this I see that taking the mount off was not only quicker but a much cleaner way

Yeah. My ratcheting wrench couldn’t grab onto that sensor. I finally removed the exhaust cross tube and used a 19mm deep socket. It saved a lot of time, not to mention I was worried about rounding the corners on the sensor. My Chevy is an 07 and I had no problems getting the cross tube off.
Was it easy to take the cross member pipe off? I was trying to do this the other day(I have a 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo)and getting that sensor off was a bitch. If its easy I'm going to try your method.
I just watched a guy change his ETC sensor in less than 5 min`s one wrench 19mm and he removed nothing at all. He came in from the back with a ratchet 19mm wrench removed in about 2 min`s and installed the new one 5 min job done.

Might want to do an update Video. Was going to follow your video until I discovered a much easier way; don't have to drain coolant or remove any lines. You can actually remove the engine lift bracket (3 bolts) near the sensor to gain perfect access to the sensor. Remove "dog bone" engine support between bracket and front support. Next remove 3 bolts securing lift bracket to engine. 2 bolts come out easily, the third bolt will come out with the bracket (as there is not enough clearance due to the exhaust x-over tube). Before removing the sensor, remove the coolant fill cap and connect a shop vac (with filter removed) to filler neck. Turn vac on and remove the sensor (vacuum will keep coolant from coming out of sensor port) and install the new one. Put everything back together and top off the coolant (as some will get sucked into the shop vac).

My cold hot gauge stopped working then it started back but the car didn’t overheat. Is this a sign that I need to replace the temp sensor or should I replace the cluster?

I have a 2012 Chevy Impala LT with a 3.6L 6 Engine and saw another video with the sensor in the front and it matched my layout. Although after changing said sensor the fans still won’t start (they do start when I remove the sensor so I know the fan isn’t the problem) and it’s a new sensor so it can’t be that either. Stuck.

Just did this. Removed MAF sensor with rubber hose did not disconnect. Removed air filter. Detached heater hoses but did not remove.Just moved them out of the way. Removed heat shield(losing two of the bolts darn it) Lost about a cup of coolant during swap. Used 3/4" sparkplug socket with 19mm ratcheting wrench. Came in from the top. Turned car on (didn't start)after fix but it still had the error and malfunctioning temp gauge. Pulled negative battery terminal, waited about ten minutes, hooked it back up. Started car and it looks good to go.
BTW: there is insufficient clearance around the sensor for the 19mm ratchet, that's why I used the socket.
Anyway, thanks for the instructions, it really helped.
It's real tight around there for sure, we wanted to use a crowfoot but it wouldn't fit.
I just replaced the Temperature sensor about 1-2 weeks ago. This morning on my way to work the temperature gauge stayed at the bottom, just as before when replacing the sensor. Checked the coolant level in the engine cap and it hasn’t dropped. Do you think I might have to replace the thermostat, different sensor, or a fan?
Jean larraga What did you end up doing? I’m thinking my thermostat is stuck open. Heater works fine. Temperature gauge reads all the way cold. Engine isn’t hot. Coolant levels are fine.

How do I remove the air in my coolant lines for my 2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette with the 3.4 PFI engine?
The fans in my 07 impala are not working. I connected them directly to the battery and they work. All fuses are good. Will replacing my temp sensor fix this issue
Just went and did the air bleed procedure because I bought a 2006 Monte Carlo 3.5L and it would get heat if you went up a big hill or a extended drive like an interstate..had looked up the heater core lacked coolant so was going to disconnect the heater hoses and "flush" it..i saw your video..followed the refill process step by step and heater works perfectly.. Apparently whoever had it before me had something replaced I'm guessing and did a poor job of bleeding air out of the system

My impala doesn’t have the radiator cap like this. It just has the overflow type bottle. Is my sensor going to be in the same place as the car in the vide?o
If you remove the engine mount bracket you can get to it with out pulling all.those lower parts... saves lots of time
First my car has 157,460 all oem equipment. In my case this was just a long line of problems with my coolant system. The car was getting heat when accelerating but none at idle. Ran coolant cleaner through the system. Replaced the radiator cap, and thermostat. Did a thorough flush it gets really cold where I live so I use straight orange dexcool. Was still having the problem but now it was wanting to overheat. I replaced the water pump the bearing was bad. I got the dash message this is when I replaced the sensor in this video. Still got the message even after disconnecting battery once it got up to temp came right back on. So just an FYI if you replace this sensor and are still getting the engine hot AC/off message I have the answer. BTW the heat core and radiator are both in good order and the belt was already replaced when I did the alternator. The wire going across the top of the motor it's protective cable jacket was completely deteriorated and the insulation was melted in a couple spots so the wires were making ground on the engine. Making the sensor seem like it was still bad. They make a woven fiberglass that's impregnated with high temp silicone. I made a sleeve and ran new wires problem fixed.

I have to say, the 2011 - 2013 Impala regardless of trim all received a 3.6L V6 and an engine bay update. While a 3.5 and a 3.6 GM V6 are nearly the same block the components that connect to them may be fairly similar but may also not be correct to this 3.5L shown. As a matter of fact, other models such as the Traverse had shared this motor in those years. If my memory is correct the 14-16 Impala Limited had the 3.6L carried over. However PPV, fleet, or rental may have had the 3.5L or other older motors throughout the mentioned years like the larger 3.9L.

The 2011-2013 mentioned in the description does apply to the fleet options, the 3.6 will have a different layout
Wanted to get that out there, many do not know of that change including the dealer.
I own the 3.5 v6, also a 3.8 series 2. SOHC with one timing chain, the 3.6 has VVT and DOHC so yeah different engines. the 3500 is more like the 3400 it was based on the 3100.

EASIEST WAY TO GET TO SENSOR IS REMOVING DRIVER SIDE FRONT TORQUE STRUT ENGINE MOUNT
My impala 2p13 temp gauges stay normal and drives fine, doesn't go past the middle line on temperature gage in dash but when I shut it off it leaks coolant as if it were overheated. It doesn't leak while its parked just as soon as you shut it off. After putting coolant back in it it doesn't leak. Not sure why it's only spilling out right after you shut it off.
I just a changed mine, but the cooling fan still won’t come on. Any suggestions of how to fix it or what can cause it, cause they come on when I take the clip off
Shops show this to be a easy job, in a short time. I know this is a video that can be turned off to move to the next part. But shops charge an arm and a leg to do this. I have turned wrench’s all my life so I know how they put the screws to people. Good video guys.
What about a deep well socket to remove the sensor?

My 2008 most of the time AC runs and does great some days then others it cuts off blows hot then kicks back on starts blowing cold..Some days its a pain does that all day next day never does it ..what are your thoughts or ideas??

For both V6 models you're looking at 10.1 qts / 9.6L dex-cool for a full replacement
A lot of the jugs you get at the store are 4qts/3.78L so you'll need three jugs of pre-mix or two jugs mixed 50/50 with water.
So I did what you said and turns out on the 2013 is actually right in the front of that engine.

Hello, I have a 2004 Chevro Impala LS 3.8 engine, the problem is that it loses refrigerant by the intanke manifold on the right side in union with the throtle body, a paste is formed, a few months ago I changed the packings of the intake manifold,

They would not be able to charge 2k for 12 hrs of fookin around otherwise.

I did it in 10 minutes and didn't have to remove the exhaust it the cross over pipe. I loosened the bolts for the cross over pipe to gain access to the two upper bolts for the bracket that supports the the engine mount, remove the engine mount out of the way and use a hammer to knock the bracket forward, pivoting on the 3rd lower bolt the get an angled closed end 19 and you take it out and in in 5 minutes
Would this method work on an 02 Chevy impala LS 3.8L? I can’t seem to find a video on that particular model year.
You'll find it in a slightly different spot, same side of the car but just underneath/forward of the thermostat (look for the big rad hose in front of the throttle)

How do I know if my coolant needs to be drained or If it’s the sensor that needs replacing,? Also Can a puncture on my dex cool reserve tank be the cause for my Car Temperature to be off? Because my Ac stopped Blowing cold Air and Im not leaking any Thing by what I can see
Hello Nestor! Our mechanic research team did come back with the follow!
Yes a puncture in the coolant tank can cause cooling issues as that would be a leak.
a coolant leak shouldn't effect the A/C as that is a separate system. A/C probably has a leak or needs a recharge.
they will have to test the sensor to see it its working properly
the harness should have 5v on the power circuit and 0.10v or less on the ground circuit
use a know good ground and test the each circuit separate as jumping both circuits together with a multimeter could fry the PCM.
inspect the harness for corrosion, bent terminals or damage.
to test the sensor you have to do a resistance check across its terminals:
common temperatures to check at:
at 0c it should be around 9420 ohms
at 10°c 5670 ohms
at 20°c 3520 ohms
at 30°c 2238 ohms
at 40°c 1459 ohms
at 100°c 177 ohms
at 110°c 132 ohms
at 120°c 100 ohms
at 130°c 77 ohms
there are more but not typing them all out, the temperature ranges should do.
if all is in spec the sensor is fine, if not they should replace the sensor and or repair the harness.

Question, when I move the clamps for the heater core the hoses are STUCK to the pipe. How do I unstick it without damaging the hose? Also, my clip that goes onto the sensor doesn’t click into place, it just goes in. Is that going to cause an issue? I don’t want to put new coolant in it just for it not to work again.
Just had temp sensor replaced on my 1998 Chevy Lumina LS 3.1 Coolant fan still not working. Fan only works continually when pigtail is unplugged from sensor. Replaced pcm, thermostat and flanges. Could bad sensor have been put in or sensor not put in right. Had this done at Belle Tire. A scan was run and these codes popped up. P0118 and P1115. Do you know what these are. Getting frustrated.
Both mainly point at the coolant temp sensor - could be it was faulty or maybe non-OEM and just out of spec? It could also be the wiring itself - maybe see if you can trace back to the PCM harness and look for shorts/breaks?
I have a impala lt 2011 over heating and I just replaced thermostat and the temp sensor. What else can be causing the over Heat?
Easiest thing to first is bleed the system, any trapped air is going to hurt your cooling system efficiency (does the heater blow hot?)
After that maybe something like the water pump?
Would the sensor not working cause no Heat ? I just replaced the thermostat. Still no heat.
Is it possible that you have an air bubble in the heater core? Raise the front of the car, turn the heat selector to full heat (you don't need the fan on) and run the engine with the fill cap off. Top off as necessary. If your model has a bleed valve crack that open for air bubble to escape. After a few minutes there should be no more air anywhere in the system. Best of luck.

@@LemurMonitors I have 1 last question p1093 and p1092 on my e46 bmw code ec and eb there's so many possibilities but these are the only clothes around trying to figure out my car don't have don't have any experience on fuel trim but I know the basics
So we replaced my thermostat and the sensor and the sensor warning light/code is still coming on. Any suggestions now or what might still wrong? Did the bleed worked for a week, code came back and heat dropped off again.
If you bleed it again does it temporarily go back to normal? Maybe you have air getting in somewhere - how's the rad cap?

If you can get both hands on it squeeze hard an inch or two back and try to turn it. If that doesn't do it you could try to gently pry under the lip with something but be careful you don't tear or rip the hose
been trying to remove mine in my 2010 impala but the gear wrench keeps slipping. i think i need to remove the heater pipe to use a socket
It's definitely not easy to get to - might be a good idea if in doubt, worst case you need to top up the coolant and bleed it slightly

Have a look under the plastic cover, on the left, just above the ignition coil/spark plug
Dexcool Coolant has shown to have corrosion properties much higher than those other 50/50 coolants. Personally, the coolant itself doesnt look great, Dexcool coolant that is. I switched to Zerex, its amazing stuff, just coolant yes, but quality fluid. Dont cheap out on this stuff you guys, coolant is comparable to water to a human, also since 50/50 mixture is running through engine coolant valves (Small opennings that go through the engine to keep it cool), these small opennings can become clogged with debris and more importantly, rust. Cheap Coolant will certainly contribute to those two factors, plus the extra wear and tear on other coolant delivery components. Hope that helps those looking to have a healthy car 😃
Just saw this video you don't have to go through all this just relieve coolant pressure remove connector break off electrical part of coolant sensor use a long extension and 3/4 or 19 mm 3/8 wobble socket put the new sensor in quickly so you don't lose too much coolant and then install the new sensor and tighten it down with a double box 19 mm or 3/4 inch wrench about 6 in Long took me about 20 minutes

Yesss my car kept doing that when it got hot and said engine hot ac off and I went to get a diagnostic check at auto zone and it said this was the problem hopefully it will all be fixed when I have someone put it in
But see mine never says engine hot AC off.Can turn it on head home from work stop at a light light blinks AC cuts off blows hot cuts back on look warm ..Get home go back out blows cold no issues..So I dunno
One cause of the AC cutting off could be the ambient air temperature sensor behind the front grille. GM part was $ 6.50 on amazon

On the 3.6 try standing at the front and follow a line back along the engine from the oil filter
Is this the reason of the ENGINE HOT A/C OFF message? When you see no steam rising and you got coolant or no sounds of an over heated engine
I had the same message then my check engine light came on. Took it to AutoZone and the message came up that it was this sensor. It sounds like you might have the same problem

I just recently bought a 2010 Chevy impala LT. Drove it for about 2 days then engine hot ac off came on. Replaced temperature sensor didn't fix the problem. Next day replaced thermostat and refilled and bleed system good. Still nothing scratched my head for awhile. I unplugged the harness for tempature sensor plugged in the old sensor. Touched the old sensor on the warm engine while running. Fans shut off and engine hot ac off went away. Was able to use air conditioning. So I'm assuming I got a faulty sensor. This will at least tell you if your wiring is messed up or you have a faulty sensor. Also was able to erase code that was permanently stored. Going to replace sensor again in the morning. To see if that fixes it all the way. Also dont forget to disconnect negative when you replace sensor or thermostat.

Is the coolant temperature sensor the same as the thermostat or different because I’m getting different advise
Different - the sensor measures the temperature of the coolant, while the thermostat is a mechanical device that controls whether coolant is flowing through the engine or not.
They can both however lead to the same or similar codes - a stuck thermostat could lead to unexpected coolant temps which could throw codes.
Thank you so much this just started this morning and when I went to get lunch on my break the fans were running and the code was on my dash when I started the car ,as was the temperature gauge stuck on cold on my way back to work the fans cut off and my temperature gauge started working so where do you think I should start thermostat or the coolant gauge if you don’t mind please

Difrent!!! Thermostat regulates the engine temp sensor sense!!! 4 step check fluid level check for frade wire at temp sensor if ok change thermostat if still not ok change temp sensor if still not ok change pump!!!

its possible that the sensor is defective and the computer thinks the engine is over heating, but a over heating conditions is more then likely a coolant leak (Coolant hose, radiator, head gasket, cracked block etc....)
I think my temp sensor on my 07 impala is bad too even though there's no engine light on in the dash. It's just my temp gauge goes up and down a lot even sometimes all the way to it says engine is overheating/ ac off even though it's not really overheating, that's why I think it's the temp sensor went bad or going bad.
How does the coolant temp look if you're sitting there with the ignition on and engine off?
Before replacing the sensor it might also be worth bleeding the cooling system to make sure there isn't any trapped air, otherwise sensors aren't too expensive and it's a pretty easy job as long as you can get a wrench on it!
I found out that I needed more coolant and possible air that was in the system, I been driving for 2 days now and gauge is staying dead center so I believe the problem is fixed.

I’m having a temp issue but before replacing the sensor I want to make sure that is it for sure. I’m not good with cars at all lol but I was told to unplug the sensor from the motor to see if my cooling fans will come in. Where exactly would I need to unplug?
Check fluid level replace thermostat if not the fix change water pump if engine is over heating if not meeting temp check fluid level check for frade wire at temp sensor if all ok change thermostat!!
The last video I watched they didn’t have to take anything off to get to it.
This is the hard way to do it. It’s easier just to take the engine mount off. Much faster too.
We have a tendency to do the hard repairs, more fun that way :)
