      There's a reason members of the gun community call places like New York, California, D.C, Illinois, etc. Communist hellholes, and you just stumbled across it like you tripped and fell right in front of a landmine. Extremist mag capacity bans of 10 rounds are the norm in these states (it's 5 rounds in New York and 12 rounds I believe in cook county, Illinois(Chicago)), at least one of these states banned semi auto rifles for a while and all AR's and AK's had to be pump action or similar, God forbid you live in one of these states and say "fuck it" and convert your gun to full auto like a normal American who wants their rights back. If you live in these states, especially the major cities in these states, it's whatever gun you can get ahold of. Then you have martial law, which happened in the fallout universe for years leading up to the bombs dropping in some parts of the U.S if I remembered right, and during the rules of martial law, gun ownership is verboten and the gov't has plans in place to confiscate private citizens' guns under such times (research the gun confiscations in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina if you don't believe me, most of those people still haven't got their guns back from the cops/gov't). Between these two things, I think this explains why in places like heavily gun controlled Boston, alot of sawnoff hunting rifles, short double barreled shotguns, and homemade pipe guns can be found alongside small, insignificant handfuls of ammo even early on in Fallout 4 hidden behind furniture in bombed out houses, hidden away in boxes inside/outside of buildings, and locked away in safes unopened since (presumably) Pre-war days, guns got confiscated and people went out of their way to acquire whatever was left out there.
      EDIT: Spelling and punctuation errors.

    If memory serves, the Czech's manufactured the Uzi on license.
    Edit to add: peace and blessings upon John Moses Browning. Dude designed the M-1911, which is still in military service 111 years after it was first adopted. Also, the M1917, the M1919, the M-2 (still going strong since 1928), the M-1918 automatic rifle.
    Basically, JMB designed at least two firearms that have been in service for over a century, (or will, in the next 6 years). A person could make the argument that the MAG-58 is derived from the M1919..
    And almost every modern handgun is based on Browning's design, and there are too many to note.

Isaac, one of the gun runners you talk to in NV, says that they produce all the weapons they sell, and that the schematics for all models come from the headquarters of the company, so it is very likely that there was a m16 blueprint the gun runners acquired somewhere to produce as the service rifle for the NCR army.

    Actually there is a fully automatic Russian assault rifle the 12.7mm submachine gun seems to lift from as well. The 12.7mm ShAK-12 is even used by Russian elite police forces, though it is apparently quite the wrist snapper. I’d imagine elite riot police would be equipped with guns like this the day the bombs dropped. The STALKER mod Anomaly has this gun in it, and it’s extremely impractical irl as well as in game.

    The Calico M950 and M960 are my favorite smg guns in real-life. I even own a Calico M950. they're given a false reputation for jamming but its mostly due to idiots not realizing that for a 50 mag requires ten-rotations (the gun's mag has a wind-up on the back for tensing the spring) and a 100 mag requires 23 rotations prior to firing. Each new mag requires a certain number of rotation wind-ups prior to firing. They tend to over-wind it or not wind it enough prior to shooting the gun. Even Ian from Forgotten Weapons affirms Calico's Light Weapons Systems firearms are merely given bad press because of the above issue and attested that the guns of Calico even their rifles are actually pretty decent.

  • @Tucher97
    @Tucher97 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I am sure most of these guns were made by Keltec when they are off the cocaine.
    Also in real life there are two versions of the grease gun (I forget the designation but I will refer to them as lever and tube variant) where the first variant the lever, had a charging lever on the side, but a few years later, a redesign removes the charging handle and extend the ejection chamber for you to stick your finger into the tube to charge the gun.
    Also the Thompson in is an anomaly as the drum mag is not only covered over rated but also impractical as the Thompson series came with a stick mag which was considered cheaper than the drum, plus for the drum's size in fallout 4, they are clearly holding far less ammo than they should.
    Also when ti comes to severe region differences, it could come down where some parts of hte US acted like their own country and not all departments re given the same budget.

      Bethesda has used real weapons names, things like M4 and M16 because they are used so much they've been put in the public domain for anyone to use. It like music over a time period a song will lose it copyright you can ask for it, but if a song was made before the 1900's it's automatic put in the public domain it is the same with firearms. or if the company doesn't exist it will have it's copyright but when it hits it's end date it getting put in public. or you can be EA and give no shits and used the IRL names anyway. most 21st weapons will have their copyright until mid of century. companies like AK (not putting the full name) keep putting copyrights on their weapons but they can't with the AK-47M (AKM) or AK-74. more you know.

    @salty_armorer4027 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Honestly, I could very easily see select fire Uzi's becoming a favorite of the elderly if the gun laws were alot less communist in the U.S., really the only real downside is that the heavy bolt swings back and fourth like it's got something to prove and throws off accuracy in medium to long range situations, that's inherent in all open bolt SMG's so unless someone made full sized Uzi clones that were closed bolt select fire like the mini and micro Uzi's were designed, I don't see that being fixed. That being said it has alot of advantages for elderly shooters that not alot of other designs have, the biggest one being the anti-bolt bounce mechanism in the top cover, for those who aren't gun-savvy, it's a ratchet type mechanism that catches the bolt and holds it in place so that you don't have accidental slam fires if you drop it, and the only way to disengage it is to cock the weapon all the way back until the bolt engages the main sear. To an elderly shooter with weak hands that would be a godsend because if they go to cock it and they only cock it 1/2 way, the ratchet mechanism will hold the bolt at that point until they charge the weapon again, rinse and repeat until the weapon is cocked, locked, and ready to rock, whereas with most other designs out there if you fail to cock it to full travel on the 1st try, at best you'll be using some other gun with a more finicky anti-bolt bounce mechanism that just straight up jams the gun completely because most of those mechanisms were only ever meant to stop the accidental discharges, worst case scenario is that you're using a design that has no anti-bolt bounce mechanism at all and you loaded a mag in it before attempting to cock it, the bolt slams home unimpeded, stripping the 1st round off of the mag, detonating it and you end up hitting someone or something you didn't intend to. Aside from that, it's a dense, heavy gun with a really slow rate of fire in a relatively low powered caliber (usually 9mm Parabellum but some examples were made in .45 ACP), all of which lend well to ease of recoil control, especially in full auto, and in full auto it helps to compensate for poorer eyesight/lack of ability to see the sights right, and if you have an Uzi with the wood/plastic fixed stocks instead of that folding sheet metal monstrosity that the Uzi became famous for sporting, you will get a really good cheek weld that more or less automatically lines your eye up with the sights for you and it won't shave layers of skin off of your face when you shoot it. Plus there are other smaller bonuses like the threads for the barrel nut/suppressor attachment point being coarse enough that an elderly person with shaky hands and poor eyesight runs much less of a chance of cross threading. All in all I can't think of a better weapon for an old man or a grandma to protect what's theirs.

    Theory:The reason why in Fallout there's still WW2 and Cold War guns is because the Pre War Army did not bother updating their weapons.We can still see 20th Century firearms in Fallout.I think the Goverment focused more on something else than updating the Army arsenal.

    • @jkruse05
      @jkruse05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      They were updating their weapons, to energy weapons. It seems, in Fallout, that there are several factors at work with regard to military weapons.
      1. Weapons development was simply slower. It seems that most cold war weapons exist in the universe, but the development time for many is expanded by and extra 20-50 years, depending on the weapon.
      2. At a certain point in the 2000's ballistic weapon design stagnated and mostly stopped advancing as they began to unlock the secrets to making effective lasers and eventually plasma weapons.
      3. Modern materials became more difficult to secure and more important to use for other projects, which is why we get a lot of basic wood and steel weapons, and not too much in the way of plastics, alloys, or attachments.
      4. Armories. It wouldn't be terrible strange for National Guard armories to contain some outdated weapons. Likely not as bad as 100 years old, but it may be that, in the Fallout universe, since the US was pretty much constantly at war or at threat of war, that some weapons were just never rotated out, or possibly even kept to arm civil militias if necessary.
      5. Armor and energy storage technologies are way, way beyond what we currently have. Medical technologies from the look of it as well, so you're definitely right that they had resources invested elsewhere. I guess the USA of Fallout just said if the gun goes 'pew' that's enough.
      Again, these are points that seem to be implied, but most are only vaguely confirmed by lore.

    That weight that counters recoil is neat but what about when it pops back up? Seems like it would just make things worse unless the fire rate was slowed to allow the counter balance a slow rise into position.

    • @FrostyFoxDrake
      @FrostyFoxDrake 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The inertial load of the action handles that force; that’s to say that most/all of the force created by the counterweight returning to the “ready to fire” position is used to push the bolt forward, re-cock the mechanism, and chamber a new round. This inertia would be more of a problem if the Kriss Vector were not a closed bolt gun, as it would have a much shorter distance left to dissipate the energy.

    great video radking, i enjoy these a lot, but you do sometimes say that some weapons make sense with little to go off like the mp40s maker being true only in fallouts universe, but the MP5SD is confusing somehow, Its not an issue everyone can come up with their own lore about this stuff, but i find it odd you say some things dont seem right or are odd but some make more sense.
    my opinion is that the MP5 is actually very popular in late 20th centuary counter to our real world the standard mp5 is much more common, and i think the writers meant that its reason for being around in the post apocalypse is because its so common two hundred years beforehand.
    and the thompson and mp40 always seemed so out of place for me, like they really dont the world.
    but the 10mm smgs and pistols do, would be great if they kepth making their own weapons instead of drawing too much from real life.

Regardless, we all have to admit the the Sten would be right at home in Fallout and I think it should've been used instead of the pipe guns in Fallout 4, people today make Sten copies in sheds with hand tools in places like Brazil, Pakistan, and Australia, to name a few, and the design makes a hell of a lot more sense than brass pipe held onto a chunk of 2x2 fence post with chewing gum and hope with a single piece of sheet brass acting as the locking surface for the bolt action conversions.

      @Bubben246 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@salty_armorer4027 I've always thought that most of the metal on pipe guns was steel, as the corners are usually worn to a silvery finish. The light barrels are definitely copper though.

    • @salty_armorer4027
      @salty_armorer4027 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bubben246 It's possible, but I think my point still stands. Not all steels are created equal, especially where guns are concerned. Anybody can see what happens if the wrong steel goes into a gun, or even if the right steel is used but a squib load occurs, just by looking up videos on the fails here on TH-cam. Those .308 bolt action pipe guns are guarenteed to fail, if for no other reason than the fact that the only locking surface seems to be the "bolt handle" locking on the edge of a nailed-on section of sheet brass or plated sheet steel, the .38 and .45 caliber versions can at least be called plausible due to both being pistol rounds and thus being safe to use in a direct blowback action, but again we go back to the materials used. Barrels, bolt heads, and secondary locking surfaces (if applicable) all NEED to be made of high tensile steel to survive the pressure of firing, and I don't see raiders taking a cutters torch to the old pre-war car wrecks to try to salvage the axels and steering columns to make these high pressure bearing components, assuming that they even know how. Nah, those pipe guns are probably made of whatever they could pick up and utilize, they pulled the springs from a junked Mr.Handy, they picked up a pipe section that came from a fallen building, the 2X2 was recently used to BONK the guy that steals and eats all the snack cakes from the haul, etc. etc. etc.

      Martial Law. It happened in the fallout universe, and under IRL Martial Law plans, private guns are to be seized to prevent pissed off civilians from fighting back or stealing food/supplies at gunpoint. There was likely alot more guns in the Mojave and other pro-gun parts of the U.S than in gun control hubs like Massachusetts, D.C, Illinois, Cali, etc. Before Martial Law, and if you ever get to know truly pro-gun folks in the U.S, you'll learn real quick that every one of us has guns that are off the books so to speak, guns that the gov't has no idea even exist, so after Martial Law the few guns in places like Boston and D.C where gun registration is mandatory got easily swept up, and everyone who wanted a gun had to get whatever they could find (hence the homemade guns locked in pre-war safes in Boston, the prevalence of sawnoff rifles and shotgun in Boston and antique .32 revolvers in D.C, etc., whereas in the Mojave people just dug up and dusted off their great great grandpa's war souvenirs (M3 grease guns and "M16" service rifles anyone?) and the normal civilian guns that they themselves aquired under the table and buried for a rainy day, and some of those ended up naturally getting sold off to people that took them to the likes of L.A. to sell for a major profit because, again, Martial Law gun confiscation taking what few guns there were to be had in gun control hubs like L.A.

Having real-world guns using their real-world names in a fictional universe is off-putting and immersion-breaking.
