The Wall is not just a regular album. It's a conceptual album, and it's a rock opera, so all of the songs from it are united to a single long story like a book is contained of chapters. Pink Floyd made a couple of great conceptual albums. Moreover, many of the songs in these albums are transitioned from one to the next, and that's the mark of Pink Floyd.
You may wanted to listen to the another song from that album named 'Comfortably Numb'. It's worth to listen to both album and live version from the 1994 PULSE concert. The band is famous not only by their unique sound and deep meaning of songs, but they also invented modern-looking performances. And in 1994 they made a fantastic light show.

My beloved Floyd! David Gilmour has the voice and hands of an angel. He can destroy you with a single phrase. And, of course there's a live version - It's on Pulse which is the greatest live show anyone has ever put on. I saw it at Earls Court nearly 30 years ago and still haven't recovered. If you do go and start watching Pulse, may I humbly suggest Sorrow as an epic track and, of course, Comfortably Numb which contains what has been consistently voted the greatest live guitar solo ever. But pick whichever tracks you like because each and every one is perfect.

There are live versions to all the songs here, most like the Pulse concert version most...and there is a movie by the same name with this music put to images...the messages in this movie are still relevant today.
    Interesting...and disturbing too.
    Cheers

Great reaction! David Gilmour and Roger Waters are the two primary lead vocalists of Pink Floyd. With Gilmour carrryig a bit more of the load. Check out "Comfortably Numb" studio version by them next. You seem to appreciate lyrics so check out the studio version first for its full lyrical impact, then the live Pulse version from 1994 is an absolute must. 👍

Great concert February 1980 Nassau Coliseum. First night people went nuts we crashed through the window had to fight off security and finally got around the Wall and saw the entire concert. It was a crazy beautiful night. 😎

There are no bad songs by Pink Floyd, of course I have my favorites too, but there are sooo many. I can't recommend anyone without doing another song an injustice ;-)). Yes, look for a live concert and present it - at the latest then you will be infected by the interaction of the band and the show. Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)

There is not a great live version of this on You Tube. There is a performance from the Wall tour. Roger Waters performed it as well more recently, but without David the guitarist and the singer in the first half of the song. But, you will not be disappointed by any Pink Floyd you find. Anything from Pulse, for example, will blow your mind.

Check out Chicago an American 70's 80's rock/pop band "Saturday in the park" "25 or 6 to 4" "Does anybody really know what time it is?" "Make me smile" "Feelin stronger everyday" "Baby what a big surprise" "Just you and me" "No tell lover" "If you leave me now" "Wishing you were here" "Call on me" "Beginnings" "I've been searching for so long"

You said you are amazed when an acoustic guitar is amazing. It’s instrumental, and not so soothing, but try listening to Friday Night in San Francisco (album). My favorite is Mediterranean Sundance. More jazz than rock-but three awesome guitarists and nothing else.

Roger Waters wrote The Wall as an autobiography of his life up till the time of writing.
He uses the character Pink to represent himself.
David is the lead singer, but many lyrics are written for Rogers voice...... it is all about the mood, tension, vibe and feel.
I could be wrong, but I think Hey You had a few meanings regarding the wall Roger built as protection from society, reality and life...... which included his own loving mother, who clearly loved him Too much.
Read the words to Mother to understand ....... or listen to it, even better.
For classic Gilmour accoustic guitar.....Wish You Were Here, live.

  • @dragon-shepherd

ALWAYS listen to the studio version !!!!! That is how the Artist(s) wanted it to be heard. Live performances are often jam sessions and are limited to the acoustics of the place.

I really really enjoy the way you react and feel to Floyd-Songs. You asked for the best live performance of Hey you ? For me it is 1990 Live in Berlin with Paul Carrack on the lead vocals....singing his soul out, against the wall, that was build during the concert. Unfortunately without Gilmour

Here's a live performance from the Division Bell tour in 1994. There is no official video of that track, although it is on the live album. Second keyboard Jon Carin does the long since departed Roger Waters' vocal part, and Guy Pratt plays bass. The vid quality isn't very good, but the audio has been remastered: th-cam.com/video/q1bbE_TOsd8/w-d-xo.html

David Gilmour and Roger Waters until endless squabbles and a power play by Roger Waters, most notably on their last Album, The Final Cut, which was the final straw, broke the camels back, and broke up the band. Animals, pick your poison. Wish You Were Here. (Pick a song, ok I will “Wish You Were” title track about Syd Barrett), Syd Barrett himself, “Dark Globe” REM covering Dark Globe, live. Rush “Xanadu” Exit Stage Left, live , after that close your eyes throw a dart at any Rush song, but do La Villa Strangiatto, and The Camera Eye, first, circle back to Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb album version not live… Now move to Genesis, Cinema Show, Home by the Sea, In the Cage, stay in the progressive lane, Yes, Roundabout, Into the Lens, (Sideways from the Buggles “I am a Camera” my fingers are getting too tired to explain), dabble with David Bowie The Man Who Sold the World, off the beaten path “Seven”. I am just dancing around my Never Ending catalog, now move on back to Rush and basically their Swan Song, last song on their last Album Clockwork Angels “The Garden” live version (Neil Peart RIP), and for heavens sake (pun intended) do “Best Friend” Yela & ‘Em, ask me anything… More suggestions to come next reaction, Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon” has jumped the Shark for me but you will fawn over any song, Obscured by Clouds” would show courage, or “Meddle” more…. next time…

Not many older bands have good live versions..Technology back then was not like now so the quality of the sound was often reduced.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a good live performance of the whole band performing it, but the guy from Pink Floyd who wrote most of the album (Roger Waters) was on tour not too long ago and played it live. It was amazing. I saw this tour. Without doubt THE best live show I've ever been to. This video is live but nothing really happens visually until 3 minutes or so in. During the show they would slowly build a giant wall on the stage and knock it down later. This part was when it had just been built so they're playing behind it. The video is here:
