David Gilmour is the most soulful guitarist who ever lived, and I will die on this hill. He says more with one note than some artists say in an album.

It's uniquely Pink Floyd, the ability to pass such powerful sonic energy and messages through the emotions of their listeners like smoke through a screen door.

You echoed my sentiments I've had about Pink Floyd since 1968. Speaking of which you need to hear Saucer full of Secrets, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, or Astronomy Domain.
This will bring you back to the early works which sets the framework for everything you hear that follows.
For a DJ It's a deep dive. Be the first to dive in.

PINK FLOYD : So much out of a few notes " Less is more". another very good version is Roger Water " The Wall". Where Snowny White on his Les Paul after the first verse hits what is called "The Noted". He finds a spot on each concert to hit the note with feed back for 23 second. Only found on Rogers "wall concert". Intro video . warning if you watch this you will want to see the whole concert ; Award winning around the world: "in the Flesh?( live) [ from Roger Waters "the Wall"} ( digital video) ****************

You don’t need drugs with Pink Floyd. Somehow they simulate that feeling. It puts you in that state without needing to alter yourself artificially. Can music. Be a drug? Because Pink Floyd just does that to you.

Nobody plays Rock guitar like David Gilmour, his soaring solos are legendary! He says more with a couple of notes and bends, than most Rock guitarists do playing a bajillion notes a second!
You feel a David Gilmour solo in your Soul.
Yeah, some good weed only enhances the Pink Floyd Experience, and make no mistake about it, every Pink Floyd song is an experience!
I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 1973 when they released their iconic "Dark Side of the Moon" album, I was 17 years old. Today at 66 I'm still toking and listening to Pink Floyd, lol.
Dave Gilmour is really the lead singer of Pink Floyd, he sings most of their songs. In this song Gilmour sings the verses before the guitar solo, and Roger Waters sings after Gilmour's solo.
Roger Waters was the main lyricist of Pink Floyd up until 1985 when he quit the band, he also played bass for PF up until 1985.

Hi MMB, besides "The Wall", there are so many earlier Floyd albums. For your next Floyd, please try "The Great Gig In The Sky" from (perhaps) the greatest rock album ever "Dark Side Of The Moon". Another great is "Wish You Were Here" from the "Wish You --" album. For LIVE Floyd, you should check out the earlier "Careful With That Axe Eugene" videos from 1969-73. This song is a spooky, dark psychedelic journey, with a brief unforgetable vocal. Besides that, much other Live Floyd to recomend.

They give it to you still the feeling of message the clean one to absorb and morph it up and trigger your natural endorfines that's the point, bc on the fake substance you don't build up the spirit unless you take more so don't include drugs bc that what took their mate out that started pf. And now it's clearer feeling but the right endorfiner you get by them that is more satisfying satisfaction that's why i usually prefer the later pf and they should get more credits than anything and their skill for it. Each one of them! And i look at the more humble of them....

I truly love your reactions (DMV represent! And as a fellow local, as such, sorry for the bad form length of this but hope you check it out as just want to thank you for the SRV vids and many others I've really loved, with some good info - I attempt at least). So, a few responses. After Comf. Numb, this is my all time favorite song by PF. Also, helpful clarification to know the band: Roger Waters plays Bass, wrote most of the songs and lyrics, and sings (the higher more nasal - not a knock just best quick way to describe - voice), David Gilmour plays all guitar parts and sings the majority compared to Roger, though as in many of their best songs, they both take lead in this song, "Hey You." David - with the smooth, butter/silk voice - occasionally rougher when appropriate - starts this song and Roger ends it (as an example). It is the opposite in Comfortably Numb, Roger sings opening and its refrain, and David the majestic choruses. They sometimes harmonize. Richard Wright comes with the amazing Synth work and piano, and often harmonizes, usually with David and in a few songs gets to go solo for a few sections, often though they are major highlights, such as the Chorus of "Time." And Nick Mason is the drummer, a master level 70's rock drummer of the highest order. David is the favorite guitar player of millions, not for playing fast but for his tone, bends, melodic solos, timing, and equally memorable solos and his diversity of skills, such a lap slide, 12 string acoustics, etc, aside from his trademark blues based solos, rhythm, and often arpeggiated (chords played as each note in a row instead of at once like in this song) melodic foundations, crucial to so many of their songs. He was my favorite player and influence for a few years until I first heard Uncle Stevie, and they are without a doubt my 2 biggest influences as a player (David despite all the Universe and space-like creations their songs can be, again is at heart a blues-based player - just something cool to listen for in their music.) But SRV had me at hello. Roger's bass work on this song - if you go back and listen for it - is incredible. He is the main musical mind for the main prime run Pink Floyd had, say their 5 album streak in the 70's from the album "Meddle" to "The Wall." He does truly incredible stuff with the bass throughout this period. As for altered states and listening experience - um - keeping it real - yeah, yes, yup! Some nice herbal delight will do the job, no crack necessary, and it takes it to an absolutely new level. A combo meant to be. But, to be totally real, the absolute very best way to sit down and say listen to the album "Dark Side of the Moon" straight through or "The Wall" is with even just say half a typical dose of mushrooms. No need to go all in. But their music comes to its absolute crystalline glorious full form hand in hand with God's most glorious substance offered to this earth, psilocybin mushrooms. Maybe a nice tea, nothing overboard. Otherwise, get blunted and schedule for the day to be done and time to be left alone, and then you will be right where you need to be. Not saying any of us have or will do any such things, of course, just as if it were the case, then it is the case...

This is one of the few songs on The Wall that can stand alone as a single. It still works better when heard in sequence, as part of the story though. I wouldn't do a reaction, but definitely sit down and listen to side one then side two (up through comfortably num) in order. You can stop there as it turns into a goofy vaudeville musical after that.
What's going on is that two sides of his personality are talking to each other, one from inside and one from outside the wall. It's a desperate situation, and doesn't have a happy ending, as the following songs reveal.

In my young days listening to Floyd while smoking a little weed was an awesome escape. But weed is not a necessity...Pink Floyd is a drug all by themselves.
No other band can take you to a different realm like Floyd can.

Pink Floyd puts me into a drugged state, without any chemical help. I've never understood why anyone would feel the need to light a doobie before listening to them, because the music produces a high all on its own.

Hey Guys, stop asking MMB to do drugs, since he said he does not do them. It's true that I "enhanced" my listening a bit in the late-70/80's, but avoiding drugs is smarter overall. I like the Comments that "Floyd is the drug", as the music delivers out-of-body feelings. Also agree with Comments that you should listen to Floyd with headphones or earbuds. Floyd's music was created with subtle stereo effects, and they expected serious listeners to use good stereo speakers or headphones.
