    I was so stoked when I saw you were reacting to Hey You! It is one of the best songs on The Wall. Your backdrop made me smile - perfect! How can anyone get that much into such a short song? It baffles me! I concur with everything you said. There are no long songs on this album, but "Mother" hits me hard. It is yet another masterpiece (IMO) featuring both lead singers & numerous other features.

    This solo after "Open your heart, I am coming come" is beautifully haunting, almost impossible to stand... How can we expect that somebody stand such pain waiting to flow out... This need for Love in Gilmours solo shows the paradox that it will overload so fantastic... Simply Genius. Dave, The answer, when we just listen we can hug the inner child with his emotions, while replies Roger, its too late...
    Not the hole album shows the pain beauty transformance bridges... There are so many complex little parts, not allways easy to listen, but worth every second😍

    Despite the presence of " Comfortably Numb ", this is the best song from " The Wall ". The lyric content aside, the almost metal guitars in the instrumental break was/is unlike anything Pink Floyd did, which makes me like it best.
    David Gilmour has the vocals before the break, Roger Waters the vocals after

    Fabulous Album. It’s a real experience to listen right through from beginning to end.
    One of their true Masterpieces. Hey You is a brilliant track. Also, it’s strange that ‘Comfortably Numb’ is one of Floyd’s most loved songs by so many, including me, yet the original album recording of it, is my least favourite version, as it fades out so quickly.

    One of several intriguing double vinyl concept albums dealing with a protagonist with a personality disorder that came out of the mid 70's. Seemed to be a popular theme at that particular time. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Quadrophenia being the others.

I was there on opening night myself, saw it twice that evening because the first theater had poor sound. "Hey You" is not in the movie. If you want a nice, peaceful, "folk style" good song from PF, you might want to try "If"... (There are MANY good songs, so I just picked one, "Grantchester Meadows" is another one in this kind).

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Garry... wow, I've looked at their songs list many times and I don't recall seeing either of those titles.... are they from early albums?

    • @garryiglesias4074
      @garryiglesias4074 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@retroreactions.... Yup, "If" is on Atom Heart Mother (after the HUGE orchestral song about 20mn long). And "Grantchester Meadows" is on Ummagumma IIRC. They got different styles but great songs from their earlies up to The Wall... After that it's not the same "Floyd" band, I mean, they never did interesting things again. They split, and the alchemy was gone. They were still "good musicians", but no magic anymore, mainstream had reached to their level, and they didn't explore as much after that. So I qualify them as good average "FM rock band".
      But Pink Floyd from Syd to The Wall is just my favorite band ever, always great, originals, diverse, great concepts, leading the way in musical production. And both Rogers (Syd & Waters) were great lyricists. Syd being more of a poet, loving visual arts and child fantasy literature, while Waters being more adult, dark, misanthropic, but so great in his way of delivering his ideas in lyrics you can dig into.
      The Wall, for example, is really a doomed rock star story (a blend between Syd and Waters). So it's very specific. But, strangely, it's so well written that anybody can relate, and find a piece of himself in the story. It's like "On The Run" on DSTOM, very "techno" track (1973) and it was about being afraid in planes, but it's more than that. It relates to any "oppressing" situation.
      Woops, I did it again.
      Sorry, I slipped, I tend to talk too much when I start about Pink Floyd :).
      Bests.

      Do you know the band "KMFDM" ? (Some says the acronym references Depeche Mode... Like "Kill Motha F**ker Depeche Mode"...). "Anarchy" is one good from them, if you wanna try "hardcore indus".

  • @flubblert
    @flubblert ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good job! Roger really does find his voice on this one. Some of the most passionate vocals you'll ever hear, because much of the story is about him.. with some added inspiration from his childhood friend Syd who was pretty much the living embodiment of a rockstar gone insane. Intense stuff. Both Roger and Dave are at the top of their game vocally imo, playing off each other's styles perfectly. Nice backdrop!!

    I've seen The Wall twice. What's during the original tour and most of it at the mass of momentary lapse of Reason concert. Which I seen twice as well.
    During the original concert they constructed a wall and tore it down at the end.
    And they performed with a massive Orchestra, mixed choir and all boys choir.
    And even though the movie came out after the album much of the footage for that movie was showing on their big round screen.
    and speaking of the movie I highly suggest you watch it perhaps breaking it up into four sections. It is as thought invoking as the soundtrack.
    Also Offers a great insight to their mindset that created their sound.

      We are fortunate to live in an area where three old guys (my age) bought back their old station they sold a couple decades back. And they play the old format. Only interrupting the music for 3 minutes every hour for station identification and they have transmitters scattered throughout the Ozarks.
      The format is classic 60 70s and some '80s Rock. And they play deep cuts never repeating a song within a 4 week period. Just imagine great music like this 24/7.

I do know that the 2018 remix of Animals was held up until late 2022 largely because Dave and Roger couldn't agree on some of the liner notes of all things. So as the principal writer Roger still seems to have some say in certain re-issue decisions. As for 'The Wall' he was for sure given exclusive rights to that in their separation agreement just as a way to placate him I suspect, with all the legal maneuvering, and get him out of their hair once and for all.

    Check out this song. The band is from Finland.
    I think in 2006 I asked my uncle if he got something mellow, relaxing,
    out of his huge rock and metal cd shelves.
    He took this album and told me to listen to it at home before going to sleep and return it after some days.
    The melodies, arrangements, atmosphere, depressing mood,...
    Vocals aside, one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music I ever had the pleasure to experience.
    In my opinion, the most beautiful moment(s) of any Pink Floyd song:
    The guitar solos of Burning Bridges and especially Mudmen.
    Sooo beautiful. Not even writing a book about it could possibly explain how beautiful.

      It wasn't Pink himself that "brushed with fascism", but he was exploited by fascists after his mental breakdown. The lyrics of "In the Flesh" say: "Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel, and they sent us along as a surrogate band." Of course, there are many gaps in the story told in "The Wall", and it's up to the listener to fill them in their mind.

      Many thousands of years ago it was rare for a mother to raise her children or even take any part....... the tribe or family did that.
      Even today, royalty and the wealthy, especially celebrities, either send the kids off to private schools with college facilities or employ others to mother and father the kids.

    unfortunately, Richard Wright was fired during the wall album, mainly by Roger. Richard Wright was going through a lot of personal problems at the time, and really was not contributing much to the band unfortunately, although he has always been absolutely brilliant and his keyboard sounds have always been the glue of Pink Floyd. Even David Gilmour admitted that Richard Wright wasn’t contributing much of anything, and of course, Roger was not in a good place either, so the conflict between them led to the split very happy to see Richard a few years later, start to get himself together again, and was absolutely fantastic all the way up until his sad and untimely death and Richard’s final two solo albums were really really good never getting the attention they deserved especially the album broken China

      Of course the irony is that Richard Wright was immediately rehired as a touring musician and toured with The Wall without missing a beat.. becoming the only one from the band to make any money from the tour as the other members had all their profits tied up in the enormous expense it cost to put on such an extravagant show. They actually *lost* money on the deal which is why they had to put on such a truncated tour. Wright as a non-member had no such expenses and received a nice little payday. 😏
      Also, while Roger gets a lot of the blame for the Wright firing it would later come out that he sought Dave's consent before making the move, who ultimately signed off on it. Richard was just a mess during that period.
